Not sure how anyone can hate on you guys. I own many high-end AR platforms and I will put my 2 solgw against all of them and they hold their own if not kick many of their ass. By far one of the best gassed and flat shooting guns I own.

Question regarding barrels: What's the advantage of the gov't profile? The common view I've heard is that a continuous taper is superior and that the gov't profile was implemented due to people using flash hiders to pop open boxes in Vietnam. However, for the URGI, USASOC decided to go with the gov't profile, KAC and LMT seem to use a slightly modified gov't profile for their 5.56 guns. Y'all, obviously, use gov't profiles as well. What is the advantage of it over a tapered or straight profile?

I understand the AR is technically a piston gun. The bolt gas rings make it an internal piston vs an external piston design ie short stroke tapper, or long stroke

School of the American Rifle goes in on it in more detail. Basically the problem is like they've said not many reputable companies use it. So one's you find have problems usually around the gas key leaking because the surface is coated before keyed and is hard and smooth, not allowing it to seal properly. It could also cause issues with improper torque of the bolts and staking of the bolts. The other big issue, like they both stated, is the mil thickness of the coating not accounted for in the machined tolerances of the carrier and or bolt. Causing tolerance issues. Personally I think that those issues don't outweigh whatever longevity or less lube benefits it may or may not offer is why manufacturers aren't pushing it.

@@masoncampos7043 if someone reputable would take the time to do it right, it might not be a terrible option. But the main benefit of it being slicker is offset by the guns running better wet. You don't need a super slick carrier if there's a nice oil film doing the lubricating, and the oil also helps manage firing reside accumulation. I think the coating is doomed to fail in ARs because it's solving a problem that doesn't really exist.

@theKashConnoisseur very good point. Another thing to consider is even if it was manufactured by a reputable company you can't account for the end user and their choice of lubricants with different mil thicknesses and tolerances of the receiver company's.. If it ain't broke don't fix it lol

You made me think of something with the losing the sense of humor thing. A Joker themed Lower. Or just a lower with a nice Joker card or Joker character. (Not Batman joker, although all itterations of him were cool.) Just the classic playing card joker. There's thousands to chose from, and/or you could have someone like Lorin design one too.

@@abolishtheatfandrepealthen6963 Thx for the comment. it made me re-look at what I typed and I had Private Joker in my head, thinking about his humour, and didn't mean to type "Private" just Joker. as the podcast talked about people are too serious in this business. there needs to be humor.

While it can be legally complicated to even get a distillery set up, it's orders of magnitude more complicated to get liquor distribution going. Especially in Texas, given how the laws there work.
