  • Mike Jones, otherwise known as Garand Thumb, stopped by our headquarters for a podcast and some exciting new projects. On this week's episode of The Bridge Podcast Travis and Mike talk in detail about his new company Onward Research, his journey throughout two military branches, his popular CZcams channel, and what it took to achieve these amazing milestones. Join Travis and Mike as they take a dive into the lesser-known side of the “Z list CZcamsr.”
Bridging gaps within our industry one conversation at a time. The Bridge is not a show about firearms, training, or the military as some might expect. It’s about people; connecting with others, sharing experiences, exchanging perspectives, and healing together through sometimes vulnerable conversations about difficult topics. We hope to help and heal others as we do so for ourselves by airing these conversations for all to hear. Thanks for listening! We hope you enjoy the show.

Full stop: the right and the left are both needed. A "right wing" only America isn't going to be as great as some may think and nor would a left-wing America. Both sides of the aisle have GOOD solutions and GOOD people who are genuinely interested in making the best country.
I'm a liberal who supports 2A. I support self-defense of self and property. I also support not having a situation where poor people aren't having to beg on the streets for a basic roof over their head, clothes on their back, and food in their belly. It doesn't mean I think they need to live in a McMansion and drive a brand new Escalade with eat caviar for breakfast. If you're a POS criminal, there's jail or worse. If you're just down on your luck or fighting some mental illness, I don't think you gotta be treated like a shitbag. I think MOST Americans are like me in that sense.

I disagree. It's also arguably the most important weapon against tyranny we have ever created. Before the internet, the only information you had access to were whatever books you had access to in your local library (which may or may not be out of date and had an equal chance of giving you incorrect information), and whatever your government-controlled media showed you.
The internet, just like guns, is not inherently good or bad. It's simply a tool. If it's made your life worse, that's your fault for not learning how to use it correctly. I agree that most people don't know how to use it correctly, but I believe there will be enough of us who do some day to be able to teach future generations how to navigate it easier. You must simply fight intellectual laziness and learn how to do proper research in a scientific manner. As long as you keep those things in mind, you'll be alright.

When you mentioned talking to old folks about whether or not we have had hard times like this and for them to say “yes it’s been worse” makes me feel so much better about our chances as country and a society. I am a 26-year-old father of two and I feared that my children were growing up into a potential hellscape. My only regret is not spending more time with him. The worst is knowing my two kids will never know their grandfather. My goal is to build something that ties us together and reinforces the idea that in the end family is your biggest ally and supporter. Keep charging brother.

That story about vulnerability was powerful. I remember reaching my breaking point the day I moved out of my parent's place to a whole new state - eating fast food on the kitchen floor with all my things still packed in the truck after driving 14 hours. Never loose sight of what those moments mean, they keep you on the path.

Travis, I just recently got into watching your podcasts, and I've realized how much the things you talk about resonate in my heart and in my mind. This podcast specifically, I believe, is my catalyst. Hearing the two of you open up and share your stories and experiences, I felt it deep down in my soul. It makes me want to become a better man, a sharper, yet more compassionate man. I would just like to tell both you and Mike how much these 2 hours have really hit home for me and made me really look inside of myself and ask all of the big questions. There is so much that I would like to say, but I feel like the youtube comment section probably isn't the place for it. I just want you two to understand how much influence this time has had on me, and how much of this will genuinely stick with me as I continue my journey through life. I will absolutely be attending Onward Research's courses, because I feel like there is still so much for me to learn from both Mike and you. I just want to say thank you so much for this, words can't ever express the impact this has had on my entire outlook on life, my future, and also my past. Please continue what your doing, I hope that more people can feel this the way that I have, not because I have the same experiences as y'all, but because I plan on pursuing a career in the Army, and I think that I never realized how much I really needed to hear what you had to say. Thank you, and God bless.
