My niece had one of these as a child, it freaked me out. It would randomly start to talk so I had to take the batteries out. It's still going strong today and still freaks me out 🤣🤣🤣. My nephew plays with it now

Well jokes on them me and my brother would play a weird "Barbie dollhouse FBI mafia" where we pretend to be the police or smth and shoot the dolls with the toy guns. Or we put Barbie in one of my brother's toy cars and send the cars flying across the room with the poor doll. Sometimes we just play with my dollhouse normally and my mom would just watch us laugh about our dumb made up storyline. :)

Ok story time. I was with my brother at Target, and we passed by a random section in a store. There was a lone baby alive on the shelf, and I was like "omg it's a baby alive" and then I Said "oh, it's by the cooking equipment" and then my brother said "ohh. Baby not alive anymore". Honestly, I thought it was cool too, I think it's because those mechanics just makes the expirience of taking care of the baby doll feel more real. For example, with some other baby dolls, they couldn't consume stuff, or didn't even have an open mouth to put anything in. With dolls like baby alive, they can actually eat and even poop out the food you feed it.

The 'candy maker' we had as kids just had moulds and a lever; it basically just shaped tootsie rolls or other similar candies into different shapes. After my sisters and I started having kids, our mom found it and let the new gen take a spin, and they decided they were all about making skulls with the vanilla tootsies.

I used to have one of the baby alive toys growing up. Up until one night when it turned on by itself at 3am. It kept on laughing and asking me to feed it. When I opened the back of it, it had no batteries. I said "NOPE" and threw it away. Haven't gotten another one since.

I saw this and remembered the time my friend's mom told us she was pregnant last week. Her youngest (5) wanted one of these hell spawn dolls and all she said was "You can have one in 6 months, it even cries and vomits!" I never died while drinking water till then
Rather than highlightings the negatives like that(im not saying she can't joke), she really should use the kids interest to get them involved with their baby sibling. This is a great opportunity to foster a positive relationship between them, by letting them get involved in small ways if they want. Like take advantage of the 5 year old wanting to take care of a baby, it can help with them not seeing the baby as annoying and rather as a friend/someone to protect and care for right from the start.
@@killme6715 She's a great mom, just tired and really it was more of a said without thinking kind of things. Tho the 5 year old is super spoiled, like out of all of the kids she has it best. Needless to say she was not happy in the slightest to hear that she will no longer be the youngest (changed next day as soon as she connected that she gets to act like how their oldest is to the baby now). I think she'll learn to be nicer with a younger sibling but for now the flip flop of yay to nay is strong with her.
This is taking me back to when I used to own one of these horrifying machines. Honestly, the only reason I wanted one was so I could do experiments on it. Baby Alives were an enigma. I was never allowed one from my parents so I got one as a birthday present from a family friend. They still exist today (obviously) and are sO much more advanced than when I was a kid, which was like ten years ago now? And they frequently feature boys in advertisements. So that’s pretty good.

I remember these old ones, you had to buy diaper refill packs at toys r us bc the diapers it came with weren’t reusable. In practice, the most fun thing about these were the “disappearing milk/juice” bottles that looked like the baby drank it, but refilled when tilted upright

My friend showed me a screenshot of something called Poopsie Slime Surprise or something like that and? Horrifying. I had the first version of a Baby Alive from the 80s. I liked her for… a few hours. That doll was a Christmas present from my grandmother. I was so happy. Loved that she could eat, poo or pee, and go to sleep. And then… something happened that changed my view and I never picked up that doll again.
I had laid the doll down for “sleep”. She was my first full size doll. I had gone back to the living room to continue with the festivities when we heard a noise. It was a strange whirring noise. Everyone went to my grandmother’s room and turned on the light to watch my cousin’s remote controlled RC car going around in full circles.
The adults had tried to keep me away because I was like 5. That’s when I saw it. My doll who was laying down opened her eyes and said “Good morning, Mommy!” (In order to activate that greeting you had to pick her up and hold her upright. She was still in her “sleep” position) The second her eyes opened and she spoke, I noped the heck out of the room. My grandma brought me that baby doll to cheer my up but I flat out refused to touch her.
They were convinced my great grandmother was just wanting to spend a Christmas with us. I believe it was faulty batteries (though that doesn’t explain the car moving in circles). That… was a Christmas. I am not joking either. I never touched the doll after that and my grandma donated it.

Oh, God, I remember I got one for Christmas when I was about 6 I think and I immediately opened the package and started playing with the doll. She had a little bracelet with a purple star on it that would make sounds when you pressed the purple star. At that time I liked it due to it reminded me of Dora the Explorer. I started giving her her sip cup and kept giving her water. My mother told me to stop giving her so much water, but I didn't listen and the doll ended up "peeing" through her diaper and it got on the couch and the couch cousin was soaked. My mom was mad but lucky it was just water.

It was a Cabbage patch kids doll, forgot the specific name but yes it scalped a poor girl so it was recalled.

So as someone who played with one of these as a kid (my older cousin owned it) and who wanted one, the appeal was that it actually did something. My mom woukd not buy me anything that was considered a boys' toy, so all I had was Barbie dolls that did nothing and a Furby that freaked me out. This was something that was 'for girls' and actually did something. So that was the appeal for me.
