- Ukrainian tank crews test-driving a captured Russian T-80BVM have praised its features: a powerful gasoline engine, high-performance traction, and a scope that sees warm objects miles away. So far, this Ukrainian battalion says it has captured 11 of these tanks and the crews enjoy exploiting them.

Also in this video you have info that it is equiped with French eletronics and French IR systems, officialy France is also a friendly democracy but somehow all this officialy baned military equipment was sold to Russia after 2014->that is why this tank do not have much distance made or cannon wear(its recent modernization made with stuff that you can not buy in a shop as a private person).
All the modernization of Russian army that was made after 2014 was made with help from French and German military companies+German money that was used to build Russian army...

@@MrRecrute Guess most of them get seen from above and taken out by artillery. But 72h is average when counting in Russian tanks that of course lowers the life time considerably.
They already captured a handful of T-80 tanks and most of them were damaged and have to repaired them. But this one is still in mint condition. Good job. Now, I hope they can capture the T-90 version.

Read the analysis of defense companies here in the US. Ukraine is not advancing or winning by any means. They've killed more of their own than Russians have killed Ukrainians. Propaganda hasn't stopped since the cold war. Its simply portrayed as "news."

the Ukrainians managed to obtain 11 of these? the best operational and actually functional MBT rushia has in service. t-14 is a spoof kludge.

Best operable MBT in the russian army is the T-90M, but none has been captured yet but two has been destroyed.
T 80 is one of the biggest failures of Soviet tank building history. Just look what happen in Chechen, so many turrets exploded due to the shot propellant being stored vertically with only a road wheel blocking it. Hit it from the side with an RPG an it's done for. They eventually had to make models with diesel engines because the gas turbine would guzzle all the gas just idling an made supply trains a nightmare logistically. They were super expensive and with so many glaring issues they were passed over for the T 72 BU which became the T 90. T 80's on paper are amazing but in actual combat they've proven to be very unreliable and too expensive to maintain. Not to mention the plant responsible for making them was Kharkov so many of the original creators became Ukrainian after the Union dissolved.

The T-80 is broadly superior to the T-72 but most are still not modernized. The one in this video is a T-80BVM which is the most modern variant so its near enough the best Russia can field given the apathetic nature of the T-72B3M and the outright absence of many T-90s. Overall a T-80 has the same vulnerabilities of the T-72 but a much better engine

@@user-uh1yr8cg1h Theres reports Spain are considering sending 40 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine which is amazing, but at the same time if Ruzzia captures them that could be vital technology thats been taken.
“Considering”, it would also be a big training set back for Ukrainians because Leopard tanks are a whole different system than their T tank series. It uses a lot more time to train their tank crews on brand new platforms instead of giving them equipment they can easily adjust to. I mean if they get them then good on them but it wouldn’t be a huge plus for them in my opinion.

I think it was previously owned by a little old lady, who only drove it to church on Sundays. That's what the salesman told me.

Do the Russians really have a huge advantage in tanks? Estimates were that they had no more than 2,800 in front line service at the start of the war. Oryx has documented 869 Russian tank losses since the start of the war and states that figure is a subset of a much larger number. If that number is two-thirds higher, the Russians have lost half their tank strength, and in normal times (the absence of sanctions), they build just 250 replacements per year .
That the Russians are deploying obsolete T-62s to the front speaks of desperation.
The older T-72s can still hurt you, and the T-62 can still penetrate Ukraine's T-64s if they get careless. Ukraine also started the war with a lot less tanks.
Just because the tanks are mostly awful compared to the best modern tanks, doesn't mean they're still not a threat. Either way, blowing up or stealing Ivan's tanks remains useful.

The T-62s can still be effective, but the Russians would not be using them if they had more modern alternatives.

Nice, but the T-80 using a gas turbine engine was introduced in 1976 so this engine is a bit older than three years, the BVM is just an upgraded T-80B (The B version came into production in 1978). But good job capturing this tank, may it see good use in the hands of heroes.

The biggest difference between the Ukraine and Russian T-80's are the engines. Having a late model Russian T-80 will let them learn the capabilities of the latest upgrades to ERA, cannon upgrades and more. A good prize for sure.

1:01 Notice when he praises the Sosna-U aiming system he mentions that it uses French electronic equipment? Russia can't get these Western components anymore (or it will be much more difficult) because of sanctions and their best weapons are filled with them. This is how the sanctions will cause great disruption in the long term.
Yep the sanctions from 2014 did not concern such equipments, but now, none equipment can reach Russia. Only exactly 202 T80's was improved with this french systems...
