    My Good Man, thank you, thank you, Thank you!!!!! You answered a question that has been driving me crazy about this unit. I am using this unit for something other than the PS3 and you have saved me a ton of time and money. Subbed for life.

    Thanks, this has helped me diagnose my recently-dead PS3 Phat..

    For anybody that needs a 12 volt supply these work great. I used one of the 25 amp units to power my lipo charger for my rc cars. Had a fan installed but didn't need one they run really cool in the open.

    Huge thanks sparky. Figured out I had a dead power supply after watching this video. 2019!

      Glad it is still helping people. I still own and use a PS3, many do.

      @@sparkyuiop my ps3 turns on then off, whenever i’m about to plug it in (metal points on the adaptor contact the ps3 port, it gives sparking sounds) i think it’s the power supply, don’t have a multimeter to test yet but will get one eventually or maybe borrow one, do you think it’s the psu?

  • @sparkyuiop
    @sparkyuiop  Před 11 lety +1

    I believe so, they all get hot. The one I did still works today.

    I don't know, never checked although the slim PSU's are a different design.

  • @playstation2bigs
    @playstation2bigs Před 11 lety

    how about the ps3 slim are they the same volt at 5 pin wire???

  • @zagy6127

    What's power cable is that. Which is connect psu to the wall

  • @Cujotrack
    @Cujotrack Před 10 lety

    what is the little connector/socket that's on the motherboard that the power eject cable goes into. That connector ripped off, and I'm looking for the name of it

  • @TheAngryGamersCorp
    @TheAngryGamersCorp Před 11 lety

    Hey, my power supply is putting about 7 volts from all the 5 pins in that plug.
    Is it screwed?

  • @TheAngryGamersCorp
    @TheAngryGamersCorp Před 11 lety

    Got the voltage coming out good so power supply is not the problem.
    Basicly its YLOD but not overheating issue cause ive fixed it in the past heaps and it hasnt worked this time but its different.
    I cant do the force eject with the fan and also as soon as i turn the power on at the switch with playstation still on standby it automaticly beeps and flashes red (No green or yellow)
    But if i hold one of the buttons down it YLOD's...
    Im lost with ideas.

  • @sparkyuiop
    @sparkyuiop  Před 11 lety

    I think you will find it is the GPU BGA again. If you have done it 'heaps' before then likely the solder has gone brittle and flaky causing a short. Your going to have to re-ball I'm afraid!

  • @klisura1973
    @klisura1973 Před 12 lety

    Did you bridge the first and fifth wire?

  • @mo3o4
    @mo3o4 Před 11 lety

    The voltages are all correct. However, the PSU gets VERY hot in about 10-20 minutes. Do you know if that's normal?

  • @Jestr86
    @Jestr86 Před 10 lety

    my 60gb model has the YLOD, never overheated... so its either the solder or the power supply.

    • @cheesyriceo4
      @cheesyriceo4 Před 5 lety

      Probly power supply. Did u ever fix it?

  • @kkruse85

    so what was the problem i just tested mine and its ok too so whats wrong

  • @drmrdude1965
    @drmrdude1965 Před 12 lety

    so yes, i tried this and got 3volts across those three 5pin connectors and ZERO volts at the main 2 pin connector after i shorted the 5 and 3 like he said. So my power supply is trash and is probably the cause of the YLOD on my 20gb PS3

  • @wahidardhi
    @wahidardhi Před 5 lety

    How to modified it into 14v?

  • @sparkyuiop
    @sparkyuiop  Před 11 lety

    I would suggest changing your PSU. If you have no 3v then likely that is the cause.

  • @phonereps2825
    @phonereps2825 Před 11 lety

    i have 2 pins showing 5v and two Gnd pins but the 3v pin there is nothing there, i have shorted the 3v and 5v pin and i am getting 12v from the large connectors, i am just missing the 3v, any suggestions ?

      i'm having the same issue on mines. 2 pins 4.98v, 2 gnd, 3v pin DEAD. getting 12.02v. is my PSU bad?

  • @sparkyuiop
    @sparkyuiop  Před 11 lety

    No it's the 'On' volts

  • @sparkyuiop
    @sparkyuiop  Před 11 lety

    no YLOD is GPU BGA

    Hey man, I tested my PSU it showed all proper voltage. Its funny...I plug it in flip switch my ps3 just has the solid red light...wont even turn on..
    I bought it for $10 to try and fix or sell for parts. I did when i was messing with the cdrom get it to turn green and beep turn on but then lol I was rocking the rocker switch in the back not expecting it to do anything and I killed the power LMAO.
    Any ideas?
