  • Unpopular Opinion No. 20-Something is based off of personal experience. It’s a tribute to a valuable lesson I learnt about sex in my 20's which goes completely against what I’ve been told and taught to do. In many ways, it was created to encourage those who live by God - despite what the world says, we are called to wait on YHWH.
    UNPOPULAR OPINION NO. 20-SOMETHING. // A poem.
Your body was not made for lend-
not for a night or an evening spent
in the careless hands of desire that burns
like a fire until you find yourself burnt to the ground.
It starts with a thought then it becomes
a thrill then you spill your virtue upon the floor
and once you confront your desire, find out it’s a liar,
discover that you’re never really full.
You need more and more and more-
soul sore after a string of one-night stands
wondering why you feel so alone
    after another unfulfilling fling.
I’m sorry, sex positivity only promoted a poverty deep within me.
I’m sorry, I don’t believe the Maker made me to live this way -
didn’t mean for me to degraded myself with sin
I know this is unpopular opinion.
I’m sorry. I’m not woke enough to
wake up next to a man that I’m not married to.
I lay there once and it felt like a mistake and to this day
that night is the furthest I’ve ever felt from YHWH.
In the weeks that followed, I felt hollow-
pushed myself further from Him still.
But look! Conviction is not the same as condemnation.
Even if I felt far from the Father, He was always close.
Guilt was made for reform and change
It was not created to chain us to shame
and rock bottom is a place to rebuild
for God is our rock: the foundation fulfilled
So, seek Him, all who are filthy and all who reek
Let Him wash you and clean you and wreck you with grace.
He will renew you - just wait. Have faith. No mistake is too great
for He gives salvation for His Name’s sake.
    Shalom.
