Error 61, EG4 6500ex inverter by Signature Solar

    Just received these parameters from Signature Solar to use until the communications is resolved
    Here are the settings to set up on your EG4 inverter:
    Setting 5 to USE
    Setting 12 to 46V
    Setting 13 to 58V
    Setting 26 to 58V
    Setting 27 to 56.5V
    Setting 29 to 44V
    Original: All setting are as described in the two videos posted by Signature Solar but still Intermittently getting the error message.

    If you don't mind me asking how long you go did you take delivery of your inverter and when did you place your order just trying to gauge on when I'm getting my July 13th order 😂 thanks

      On May 13, 2022 I ordered six Lifepower4 Batteries, one 48v battery charger and one 6 battery mounting rack. Everything was in stock and I received the order a few days later. On May 28, 2022 I ordered two EG4 6500ex inverters, two EG4 3000ehv inverters which were also in stock and again received a few days later. I experimented with the 3000 watt inverters for a week or so and found the do pretty well up to about 70% rated output after which they make a high frequency buzz/hum. The also make the same noise during motor start up when running smaller loads. Personally I would not run them long term at more than 1800 watts each (70%) long term. I fear either the inverter may fail or the equipment being powered may get damaged. I don't have an Oscilloscope to see what the power looks like. All I could check was voltage and amperage which would fluctuate quite a bit (I may have a video). Over time the power did stabilize until the load changed again.
      Next I installed the two 6500 watt inverters and ran them completely separate from the 3000 watt ones. I watched both Signature Solar videos about the Error 61 before even starting the installation. I programmed them accordingly and installed the communication cable as instructed (white tape side going to the inverter). The battery icon flashes and 90% of the time I don't get the Error 61 message. The message comes and goes intermittently. As of yesterday I finished moving the rest of my loads and last two batteries to the 6500/1300 watt 120/240v split phase system and so far so good (other than the Error 61). The fans can be very loud so they need to be installed away from living areas.
      I feel Signature Solar is doing their best to resolve the problem and would still recommend them at this time. As far as I understand these inverters are basically the same as several others on the market simply rebranded for Signature Solar / EG4.

    Is that the cable that came with the inverters? I know there is like special way they crimp them I don't know if it has anything to do with your issues. (Each end of the crimp is different and it matters which end gets plugged into the inverter or batteries)

      Yes, it's the communication cable that came with the inverter installed as described. I did not try switch the first battery dip switches all to the up position as their video mentions because they do seem to communicate most of the time.

    Just getting ready to call them on this yet again. Works for a few days and then comes back, etc. Won't clear at all. Put it back to USE and let it sit then set back to EG4 and it works again, for a while. Lather, rinse, repeat.

      Mine comes and goes intermittently. I am currently using the recommended charging parameters from SS and not using communication at all. SS says they have new software that should resolve the issue...fingers crossed.

    Figured that I'd change the display since I have another EG4 inverter and as soon as I changed the display problem was gone So i figured there EG4 display is the real problem here try it see if it helps anyone too. Best regards

    Some of the problem here it scares me is signature solar don't seem to stand behind their stuff. They'll stick your own long time before they let you send it back.. then after it's in their possession they still screw you over somehow. I want to buy more stuff from them but I'm very leery. This is all after the 30 amp battery charger deal and also my 12K inverter and how helpful they would not work and resolving an issue

      I understand your frustration, but I feel they are doing what they can to resolve the issues. I can only imagine trying to weed out legitimate product issues from installation issues. Especially since many people buying these are complete novices not only to solar power systems but to any sort of electrical work.

      @@McDIY usually when I'm contacting the supplier on a problem I've pretty much gone through every other scenario problem it could be to write off it's something I am doing. And then to have them want me to go through all that again after I told him I was 100% sure the product was defective. Frustrating.
      What signature solar did one of the two situations I had issues. The 30 amp battery charger. Putting out 18 amps. I was one of the first ones with the issue. Send it back and they wouldn't do a thing because I put an Anderson plug on the output. Then later on come to find out every freaking one of them sold was only 18 amps. Huge complaints huge blow up on a DIY forum. I did talk to the owner of the company he was great. But when their employees are accusing me of wrecking a product and blaming it all on me don't make me too happy. The other situation was my 12K inverter. Kept rebooting. Contact the signature solar no response. Somebody on a DIY form from Growatt sent me the firmware file and told me how to install it. No help at all no response from signature solar at that time. May 2021

      I’ve been running a MPP LV2424 for a year and live it.I have run into issues and even with the time difference from Taiwan. They always get back to me right away with great help
      I just bought a EG4 6000ex an am wondering if I went wrong. You can’t get them on the phone to save your life anymore 2:30 hours today waiting on hold for tech support and still no answer WTF

      @@cowboymcq6711 I think you will be just as happy with it as your current inverter. It's basically just bigger. I have found emailing tech support to be most convenient for me.

      Their prices are good. And I'm thankful they're there so I can actually buy this type of stuff. I wish the customer service was better. But I think some of it is they sell the stuff to people that have no idea what they're doing. Have to deal with those people. That can take a lot of time to customer service.

    I know Will had a video up for a whole day trying out there new settings before he was getting error 61. Then he deleted the video. I don't know I'm kind of second-guessing me on buying this EG4 stuff .. argg seems like a. Waste of money .. I have 3x LL battery sitting in my basement waiting on this inverter..

      I commented to Will Prowse' video before it was removed because I thought I was not getting the Error 61. It turns out I was getting it but I couldn't see it because I was not on the inverter's home screen. I would get a beep and red light flash but no 61. When switch to the home screen the 61 is visible. The Lifepower batteries seem to be the best value available and the LL batteries seem to be the next best value. Time will tell.
