    One thing about the HyperDecks that drives me nuts that would be super simple to fix: Lack of display of available recording time on media until you start recording.
    The telnet protocol can tell you, but the display won't show it until you are recoding.

    Hi Doug,
    Watching the video felt like you were reading my mind! Spot on with so many of your points. It really shows the weakness in the Blackmagic organisation with so many bugs/ missing or removed features or just plain outdated software. Having used their hardware for many years I have been disappointed in so many of their products now the first thing I look for now is what else is available from other brands. The Atem software is now up to version 9 yet every update just causes more issues with older hardware. Running mixed systems with some new models and some old is a nightmare. The more new products they announce at NAB the more I’ll be disappointed they’re not dealing with and fixing the issues with current products that people keep complaining about. While I work extensively with Dante too I would be afraid if Blackmagic implemented it for the issues their device would probably cause on the network 🙄. Your product knowledge from using their equipment is an amazing source of real world feedback for them it they would only listen!

    Great list. We've ordered the Constellation 4M/E, but the lack of discrete audio mixes for the different MEs made it a really, really hard choice. Instead we have to bring Dante in via a SQ-5 and then embed the sound outboard before sending it to the stream encoder, the IMAG and the video conferencing client. Awkward doesn't even begin to cover it.

    Dante input would be nice, in my current setup I already have an AVIO as input, but I could make use of 4 Dante inputs. NDI support would be fabulous; I would buy a new ATEM to get that feature. REST API support - YES.

    The last one with SRT protocol - would be awesome to be able to send multiple audio channels too. For example we did multiple live streams (especially through covid waves) where only limited number of people were on set (and just and only switching was handed on the set) and raw audio channels (4, 8, >10...) were sent to my home using vMix & SRT where I added final graphic and did final mixing of the sound for the live stream. :)

  • @ChiefNonsense
    @ChiefNonsense Před rokem +1

    Amen! We are using the “plus” Hyperdeck right now for an on screen fight timer and it has embedded beginning bell, ten seconds remaining clacker, and final bell. We have to run a ¼” unbalanced line from its headphone port to the mixer in order to be able to pass those sounds onto the house mixer. That single (noisy!) source is by far the biggest contributor to our overall noise floor. Give us balanced audio out of the Hyperdeck please (and the ability to delay the audio or video depending on use case).

    I would really like to see an update of the Software Control that would enable having multiple windows open. It would be so handy to have the audio pane open on one screen, main switcher on another, etc. I am also jot a fan of how “stacked” the keyers, supersource, etc gets. If those settings had their own independent panel that was better laid out, it would save the day when things go wrong. Also, make it so all settings can be saved when turning off the switcher. It is frustrating to have to reroute settings when they don’t save.

  • @ivarmh
    @ivarmh Před rokem +2

    Really great list @Doug!
    Regarding the SuperSource recording I was told that all the information about the SuperSource is in the Resolve project file that is generated by the ATEM but Resolve does not parse that information. Should be an easy upgrade of Resolve so that we could rebuild the SuperSource in the project instead of having an additional ISO stream.

    • @darbethbusinesstechnologya9965
      @darbethbusinesstechnologya9965 Před rokem

      Unfortunately the Resolve file does NOT contain all the information. I have analysed it in detail as this effected me significantly. In particular, the source video for supersource is set to a non-existent device, so there is nothing there for Resolve to parse.

    Geez, supersource iso would be amazing.

  • @darbethbusinesstechnologya9965

    In addition to the Supersource to Resolve issue on the ATEM's, there is a related issue with USK's. If you crop an overlay video, e.g. reduce the width to just the person speaking, the cropping information doesn't get transferred to Resolve. You end up with a full width overlay video instead and you have to re-invent the framing and layout that you had for the live stream.

  • @Walaby50
    @Walaby50 Před rokem

    What I wish for in the ATEMs is to Update the MV. Currently the dividing lines are overlays over the Video. So if you look closely on a very symetric live shot, it looks alright in the camera, on the input and when sending it on PGM or Aux out, but when you look atv it in the MV, even when setting it in the PVW or PGM window, it alsays looks of.
    So this tells me the videos are actually all touching and maxbe even overlaping in the MV and the outlines just lay on top of them and cover parts of your frame!
    Another thing I hate with the ISO switchers is when recording Audio sepperatly for a live show and syncing it afterwards with the video, the delay changes when going from ISO files to the camera originals.
    I can even notice a shift when using the recorded sum from inside the switcher.
    It‘s usually around 2frames in shift…
    When recording audio in the cameras and sending it to the switcher this is obviously not an issue, but this is not an option for anything more professional in a studio!

    With respect to the dante support, I think the best solution would be to include a card slot like most digital audio equipment, that way it can be purchased separately.
    With the using media without going through the media players they may be limited by the FPGA block ram, the image might have to be loaded into it before being used my the mix engine.
    About the Bluetooth config of converters, a better option would be NFC, ETC has an app for configuring their lighting fixtures, no pairing just set the settings in the app and hold your phone to the device to set it.
    With the vieohub presets, the feature they should have is 'salvos' , a list of routes that can be recalled at will.

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před rokem

      Card slots are certainly more flexible. At this point, though, Dante is becoming so ubiquitous for network audio that the likelihood of anything else making much sense is a bit low.
      NFC probably wouldn't work with iPhones. And Bluetooth devices can communicate without going through a pairing process. I have quite a few devices that just work without pairing.
      The new Videohubs do have what they call Macros, which are the same thing, but they're limited to 10 routes. I'm thinking more something that you can save and recall directly from the front panel -- save my current config so I can recall it later.

    That WebPresenter issue you mentioned happens also with URSA Broadcast G2, if you are streaming directly from the camera. It also gets stuck randomly and you'll need to stop and restart. Restarting the stream generates a new URL at least with CZcams. Streaming Bridge will obviously work fine, if you are able to reconnect.
    I was chatting with the support about these issues last year. One of the points I raised was that there are no logs on the camera (I suppose neither on the other devices?) How am I supposed to know what's wrong? The only thing you can really observe are the current IP address and a flashing live icon.

    It's crazy to think that there is no color consistency within their camera models, since they ARE the current developers of DaVinci Resolve! One would think they have some brilliant minds and engineers to figure out the color spaces, data and technology...

    • @djp_video
      @djp_video  Před 8 měsíci +1

      They've used so many different sensors over the years that getting exact matches across all of them is next to impossible. And, in addition to that, they upgrade their color science every few years and provide software upgrades for some cameras, but not older models. So what you end up with is a huge number of combinations of sensors and versions of the color science and the end result is little consistency across different models.
      As long as you can stick to a single model and generation of camera and firmware you should see consistency, but that's about the only way to guarantee that colors will come out the same.

    I would like for blackmagic design to develop a streaming device to bring in remote guests that are 2 way audio and video. The streaming bridge only goes one way. You need a back channel for audio. Streaming live with guests seems to be a challenge with hardware switching and encoding. I would like to get away from software solutions for live streaming guests.

      We do this using conference software like zoom, jitsi or similar to bring in remote speakers. One single session each. And a separate session for his presentation, if needed.
      Big advantage is, that the most guests are already used to conference software and do not need any special hardware.
