    Mounting your gear to the hitch of your van is a great solution, but it can impede your access to the rear cargo area. With a hitch swing arm from Rak Attach or Wilco Offroad, you can mount cargo baskets, bike racks and more to the rear of your van and still be able to open the back doors.

    Great video
    You could always buy a short extension piece between the rak and the chuck box to make the door open all the way. Not sure what length you actually need to do something like that. Good luck.

      only when I have the bike rack and bikes on. But the van has a button that allows you to turn off the alarm when backing up so that it doesn't annoy you the whole time.

    Does the swing arm fit snug into the vans receiver? Worried about rattling, does pin have threads to combat the rattle? Or is it a slider pin? Thanks!

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 4 lety

      The swing arm came with a anti-rattle plate that allows you to snug the system onto your hitch. No movement at all.

    I am trying to decide between the rack attach and other similar swing hitches. Can you do a long term review of the rack attach? Are you still happy with your choice?

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před rokem

      I am still happy with hit. What other brands are you looking at? I remember the Kuat version didn't have as high of a weight rating. The Wilco Offroad version looks great, but the raised arm means that you'll have to open the swing arm everytime you want to open the back door, even if you don't have anything mounted to it.

    Can you open your left (driver side) backdoor if the lever is up and latched? Or does that lever need to be pushed down to allow clearance of the bottom of the door? Thanks Much...

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 4 lety +1

      Joseph Marksz this specific version requires you to push down the lever to open the left door. However, they did some updates to the swing arm and now you don’t. I just upgraded to the latest version and it’s much better. No need to push down levers or pull out pins to open doors.

    The interference does suck, but you are getting some huge benefit otherwise. Did you look a the kuat?

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 4 lety

      The interfence was a bit of a annoyance. But I recently sold mine and bought a new one. They have updated their design to make it so that you don't have to touch anything to open the back doors. As for the KUAT option, I looked into that and decided against it because the weight carrying abiity was too low for what I needed.

  • @TheSprintina

    If you found yourself needing a new swing away hitch, would you get the Rakattach again or would you go for the Wilco Off-road Hitchswing? Why?

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 5 lety

      Christina Ashworth there is a lot about the Wilco off-road that I’d love. But I think I’d stock with the rackattach. I believe the Wilco holds your cargo a bit higher off the ground, but that then requires you to always swing it out when you need to open the door even if you have nothing on it. I like how rakattach gives you an option for a left swing or right swing. I went with the right swing but am seeing that a left swing would have been kind of nice in a few ways.

    • @TheSprintina
      @TheSprintina Před 5 lety

      Seek Out The Adventure With the Rakattach would you still have to pull out the safety pin and throw down the latch before opening the back doors? What benefits do you see for a left swing arm? Would you get that second time around? Is the only benefit to the Wilco hitch the wider swing radius?

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 5 lety +1

      @@TheSprintina You do have to take out the pin but the latch clears the bottom of the door. I normally keep the pin out unless I have it loaded with bikes or cargo and am driving on the freeway for a long distance or on a bumpy road.

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 5 lety +2

      @@TheSprintina I do enjoy having the right swing, but there are times when I wish I had the left swing so that I could open the right door all the way since it's the first door you have to open.

    • @PickleballPrim
      @PickleballPrim Před 4 lety

      Christina Ashworth The benefit of the hitch swing that wasn’t mentioned is that it gives you a secondary receiver so in this case Seek out the adventure could have also mounted his chuck box and the bike rack to the hitch swing with an extension of course. When using the hitch swing, the chuck box would also sit higher which could also prevent scraping it at an angle. Using the Rakattach it’s one or the other. Yes the hitch swing costs more but gives you more options.

    titan ramps makes a unit for 159.99 free shipping

    • @SeekOutTheAdventure
      @SeekOutTheAdventure  Před 4 lety

      That does look like a great option. Thanks for the lead on that one. Looks like it it only available in one size while the RakAttach is offered in three sizes. This Titan one is tad smaller than the large size of the RakAttach, nice. The titan is 3-5 pounds heavier and has a load limit of 250 lbs while the RakAttach has a load limit of 300. Pretty comparable and a big price difference. I'd definitely consider the titan one.

    • @kingjesus7926
      @kingjesus7926 Před 4 lety

      yeah 250 lbs is more than enough weight. the heaviest item carried on the back is typically a cooler at a 100 lbs that leaves a 150 lbs for extra weight. 999 out of a 1000 will never go over 150lbs. A lot of the units are way over priced its steel with a hinge and clasp. The titan unit would probaly clear the door as well

      @@kingjesus7926 I am looking at the Thule Hitch Access mount, found it on sale for $275. Would go for the cheaper options but this has a rating of 350 lbs. The bike + cargo carrier I am planning to use is about 135 lbs by itself (unfortunately hard to find a bike rack + cargo carrier that is made to hold a fat tire ebike @ 75 lbs with a ramp, so this is technically a motorcycle carrier), my ebike is 75 lbs, and then it gives me 2 cargo carrying boxes with total of 140 lbs for hauling cargo/fuel/etc.

    Swings the wrong way, should swing on the drivers side so if you are on the street it will be on the traffic side

    • @greenfocusNY
      @greenfocusNY Před 3 lety +2

      If depends on the situation. I think if it swings towards the sidewalk and away from the traffic it is safer to unload bikes, and there is more room on the side of the road
