I travel a lot! Biggest problem is soooo many folks are unsafe and do a terrible job securing the load. Learn the correct way and straps to use!!! Twice this yr I have seen crap bouncing out of these things while driver obliviously motors down the interstate. Be 100% safe folks!

Really nice product. Lots of potential. Most tow hitches on trucks and full size vans will support 500 pounds. Some even more. With that capacity you could build the garage on it - a big box as tall as the van!

That is really a great swing away rack Bob. I have one by Yakima that I bought with my annual dividend one year but I have yet to use it because the unit itself feels kind of heavy. You have motivated me to use it although I don't think my unit is as heavy duty as your Stow away unit. Great info as always thank you Bob.

I bought one recently (boy has the price gone up!). Your video's given me encouragement to build a similar platform with lockable storage, since Stowaway now wants $880.00 for their admittedly nice cargo box. Working limited hours at low pay makes that out-of-reach, but once again Bob, your fantastic videos have come through to ease the way ahead for so many. TY!

Not for a minivan but I have a 10in hitch extension that allows access to the rear of my Yukon with a non swing away hitch platform
Doesn’t effect handling, as far as I can tell
I don’t go off roading or it might need a rise which could be done with a shorter extension. No fancy swing away needed. It’s not like I’m not taking 2 spots or more anyway

I see they make swing away with cargo boxes and where you can add bicycle rack on top like a dbl decker. Pretty expensive but nice. I was thinking there would be room in front of your cargo boxes here to add a rail to secure a bicycle between the Van or suv and boxes for a fraction of the price. Good job Bob !

@@nonyabizness.original I suppose you could install a one-way pet door for the dog. As for the other thing I think you'd need a social media thing or friend or family member to call the police if you haven't checked in after a certain amount of time with a general idea of where you are and/or where you're going. There probably are better ways to approach it for all I know; it would be great if Bob made a video about it. I'd like to know too, I've had some really bad asthma attacks in my sleep and it always wakes me up but I'm sure one day I won't.

My question has nothing to do with the video although I currently live in a Grand Caravan and have looked at this as an option...I'm afraid the GC is too close to the ground and will scrape. I am thinking of buying a Savana but the gas mileage seems like it will be a huge cost...how is your gas mileage on the Savana?

I just built this but found that the entire hitch ensemble wobbles and is loose at the swing-away and cargo hitch junction.
And I can't tighten this because the swing away hitch receiver is not a standard receiver with a flared neck (in which case I could have just added a hitch tightened).
How do you account for the crazy loose wobble? I'm afraid this will fall apart in me while I'm driving some bumpy roads.
