To be fair, a LOT of popular musicians and music producers at the moment seem to have pretty much given up on the quest for originality and just go with excerpting older music, either in credited form or (at least until the lawsuit hits) without credit to original artist/s...? 😐

I wrote a song in a New York hotel that I was proper proud of. Got back to Blighty and spent three weeks getting in nailed down with my band. The day before debuting it at a show, my drummer and I were sat listening to the radio whilst on a break in the studio and Best Of You by Foo Fighters came on.
It was basically the SAME SODDING SONG with different lyrics. I was gutted. But it does happen. There’s simply not that many chords chaps!

A lot of really famous musicians only use 2-3 chords in most of their songs. Yeah chords are important to the structure of the song but there’s also tempo, lyrics, rhythm, melody, harmony, bridge etc. . Yes it would be great if pop musicians were more diverse with chords but just because the chords are the same doesn’t mean it’s the same song or effort wasn’t put into writing it.
