- Boys and men in the modern world are falling behind in education, increasingly disconnected from work, disproportionately the victims of “deaths of despair,” and filling diminished family roles. Richard Reeves’s new book, Of Boys and Men: Why the Modern Male Is Struggling, Why It Matters, and What to Do About It (Brookings Institution Press, 2022), details this “male malaise” and offers provocative solutions to overcome it.
Richard V. Reeves, the John C. and Nancy D. Whitehead Chair and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, will join Kay Hymowitz of the Manhattan Institute and AEI’s Beth Akers, Ryan Streeter, and Scott Winship to discuss the book’s themes and proposals.

Young men need to be free from confusion in connection to employment otherwise Mass confusion among males gets worse.

I absolutely agree with the author that men's involvement in HEAL professions ought to be encouraged. However, they have been traditionally the least well-paid professions and men are culturally encouraged gravitate towards professions that are more well-paid and risky (read manly). So make these professions more highly paid. Also, if we can just raise boys to be more "mature men" and not wedded to "toxic masculinity", it would improve their and societies' well-being.
Could it be an over-correction of feminism?
I've been a big follower of Richard Reeves, until he said here that his book is aimed at heterosexual men. As a gay man, I'm sick and tired of being excluded from 'male issues.' We are also men, who happens to be attracted to other men, with most of the struggles facing heterosexual men.
If you read the book, the reason that he says this is that a large portion of the book is how men have dropped out of caring roles, ie. are no longer in their children's lives. This is very much tied to heterosexual men and heterosexual women having biological children. I think you can read it and still get points out of it but wanted to explain why he says that it is targeted at heterosexual men.

The book appears to be aimed at heterosexual WHITE men.
Reverse all the damage done to boys and men (instate equal justice, rights, personal value, status, and consideration) and the problem will be resolved.
Men need a new script.
