    Laser Discs are not useless! You can connect the player to an Onkyo TX-RZ50 AVR as well as a Marantz Cinema 40 AVR into the Media Player Composite Inputs, and then it will display on your high end display and audio out to your speakers. Check it out! I will eventually get one of these, but I am keeping my 100 plus Laser Discs.

    Just came across your CZcams channel as I was looking into kaleidescope too!
    I was injured many years ago which left me paralyzed but I've always had a love for movies to escape for 2 hours or maybe 3. 😀
    I've been into home theater as long as you and I started with VHS wifi to laserdiscs and beyond.
    I've been so impressed with what I've been hearing about kaleidescope!
    I've had a few dedicated home theaters in the past 30+ years. I'm 56 now and I'm upgrading my projector to a 4k laser, my Denon receiver will be replaced by a Marantz receiver. I also have a 120 inch screen.
    This will be my last theater as I'm getting up there in age and dealing with this injury. Kaleidescope is so INCREDIBLE but it is expensive. Maybe I can try and buy a used one that's in the $4,000 range?
    I'm so glad for you as it seems you are really enjoying the best in video and audio in your very nice theater system.
    Let me know if you hear of anyway to get involved without breaking the bank. 😀
    Congrats on having the best!!.
    I'll definitely subscribe to your channel!!
    Nick

    I picked up a Strato S which is a Strato C and a Tera 6 combined about a year ago. Added a Tera 6 recently. Even though they’ve become more affordable they are still a premium product and some enthusiasts just can’t justify the price. I get that but nothing else touches it for quality and ease of use. I see you definitely put the bulk of your budget towards the display, I put mine towards the audio side. Either way, it’s a great experience

    How do you convert discs to digital using the kaliedescape ecosystem? I’ve seen across other videos that this can be done, but I can’t find anywhere that explains how.
    I know a feature of PLEX is as a movie starts, you can have it set so that trailers play in the beginning, like a real movie theater. Is that a feature of the kaliedescape?
    Thanks again!

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety

      There is a disc to digital program if you have a Kaleidescape Alto player that gives you a discount on purchasing the movie you already own on disc. There is no feature to play trailers before the movie like a “real movie theater”. One of the best features is that when you push play the movie just starts. No commercials, no FBI Warnings, No Delays etc it just starts.

    Do you feel the audio is better compared to UHD discs? I can see the audio being better than blue ray but im assuming that once we get to UHD disc quality, their is not Munich room for audio improvement. Thanks

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety

      There is potential for audio to be better compared to UHD discs. Discs are restricted by the amount of information that can fit on the disc. Kaleidescape isn’t hampered by those limitations and I’ve found that when saving space on a disc the studios compress the audio. I’ve heard multiple discs where the audio was noticeably better than the UHD disc and plenty where it was pretty much the same. Also, there’s actually no reason the audio on a Blu-ray v UHD should be any different. Both discs are capable of the exact same audio quality.

    • @brucecarter6205
      @brucecarter6205 Před 10 měsíci

    Great information. Regarding Disney movies with a/b testing; I find that their movie soundtracks ie Black Panther are recorded low taking away some of the overall experience. I watch these currently on a Panasonic ub9000. Is the sound better on kaleidescape or is this a mastering issue?

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety +1

      I’m finding that ringing tide raises all boats… Meaning, the movies I’ve A/B’d, Thor Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War, End Game, Star Wars Ep4 & 5 and Solo all have better audio than their Disc counterparts. But like Ragnarok is a notoriously bad disc for audio and the KScape version is noticeably better but it’s not raised to the level of a good audio mix like say a good Sony Disc like Spider-Man No Way Home. Tough to explain in a short text, hope this helps. I’ll be adding videos on stuff like this in the future too.

    Great Info on Kaleidescape I had not realized. It's helping push me over the edge to buy one.
    What do you think about buying a movie on Kaleidescape as apposed to renting?
    The cost of buying is about 3 times the cost of renting so unless you plan on watching the movie more than 3 times I don't see the point of buying 95% of the movies not to mention filling your hard drive. I counted 8,600 of the 12,000 movies that can be rented.
    Can you start watching the movie before it is fully downloaded? Seems like if it can download a movie in 15 minutes then why can't you stream it from Kaleidescape?
    Thanks

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety

      I’ll be doing another follow up video by next week to answer questions with a little ire detail. But no, you can’t stream. Kaleidescape is a download and watch system. Yes, renting is the smarter way to go especially with movies you’ll probably only watch once.

  • @Aareses
    @Aareses Před 2 lety +1

    Unfortunately the Kaleidescape Strato is not capable of the type of download speeds a Terra server is. I have a GIG Internet connection as well and it takes anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes to download movies to the system. Typically 60+ minutes for 4K HDR titles.

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, the Strato S is a great entry into the ecosystem but once you’re in you see the benefits of the money in the upgrade to the Strato C/Terra System. I originally planned on the Strato S and I’m glad I went with the Terra. TOTALLY worth the extra money to me.

    Great video my friend. I am interested in getting this system and upgrading my collection as well. My theater is in my basement, where I don’t have Ethernet. Is Ethernet absolutely required?
    Secondary question: do you have an Ethernet line going into each device connected to your network? Or do you have an Ethernet running from the player to the hard drive to transfer files?
    Thanks for your help. And awesome informational video!

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety +1

      Ethernet is ABSOLUTELY required. There are no Wi-Fi options as there is way too much info going back and forth. And yes, each piece of your Kaleidescape system needs its own Ethernet cable connected to the network.

    • @dylanwalsh5105

      One more question, I apologize. Do you have any fears of kaleidoscape ever going out of business? One of the advantages of discs is obviously it’s yours forever.

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před 2 lety

      @@dylanwalsh5105 Kaleidescape has been around since 2002-2003 ish… they’ve been taken to court by the studios and are now working with the studios. I’ll never say never but I wouldn’t have paid all the money I just did if I thought they were going out of business any time soon.

  • @armond216
    @armond216 Před rokem +1

    The reason file(s) are larger on the Kaleidescape is because everything is in one package. If you look at 16:19 you'll see the movie comes with 3 disk which add up to what you're getting on the Kaleidescape. All that extra data is alternative languages, subtitles and extras. Kinda misleading....

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před rokem

      That’s not accurate. What you get on a Kaleidescape 4K disc is just the movie and the various audio tracks that accompany it. When you buy a 4K Disc it comes with a 4K Disc with no extras on it and a Blu Ray with a the extras and maybe a DVD version as well. The Kaleidescape 4K digital file is only the movie file just like the disc. If you look at the extras you get on a 4K Kaleidescape download you’ll see there are none. Jurassic park World dominion file was over 150gb because it actually had both versions on that download. That is rare, most of the time if there are two versions you’d see two different downloads. Your theory that a disc doesn’t have the different languages and subtitles on the same disc is slightly flawed because how would you implement them on the movie if they weren’t already on the disc you were playing. But yea, the extras are on a separate disc and they are in a separate download Kaleidescape.
      Hope that helps clear it up a little bit, it’s a point a lot of people are mistaken about.

    • @armond216
      @armond216 Před rokem +1

      @@BrightSideHT It's also possible that the file has an HDR and SDR in one file. I've seen this when I'm ripping BDs with MakeMKV. When you're playing the large movie files what's the bitrate?

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před rokem

      @@armond216 Yes, for 4K movies you have a choice between downloading the 4K HDR version or the 4K Ultra HD which is 4K w/ SDR and that’s a separate download as well. Interesting thing is sometimes the SDR version has a higher GB Download. Like if the HDR version is 75gb the SDR would be like 75.5gb. Weird, but it is still two different downloads.
      Kaleidescape does have larger files than most 66Gb physical disc releases. If the movie is on a 100gb disc then chances are we would have the same amount of info but still not a guarantee.

    • @armond216
      @armond216 Před rokem +1

      @@BrightSideHT I just read that Kaleidescape has a deal with a lot of movie studios and get 'mezzanine' version which are raw and uncompressed. Now everything is beginning to make sense to me. Thanks for the enlightenment and pointing me in the right direction.

    • @BrightSideHT
      @BrightSideHT  Před rokem

      No problem. Like I said earlier, it’s a very common question and is hard to wrap your head around. I was the same way until I had one. I was noticing an improvement in Marvel and Star Wars movies and couldn’t figure it out and then a friend pointed me towards the file size and that Disney only uses 66Gb discs. That’s when it all started to make sense to me too. I looked at Endgame, a 103+gb file on Kaleidescape and the whole movie is on a single 66Gb disc.
      But to be fair Kaleidescape is more than just the quality of the content. It really needs to be experienced in your home to get the full understanding, it’s really cool.

    Star Wars is the reason I maintain a server and rip my movies. There is no other way to watch the original trilogy in its ORIGINAL de-specialized version, without the crappy CGI. Edit: KScape will only ever be able to offer the specialized versions sadly....
