    I just happened to come across your channel as I was looking for kaleidescope. Holy cow it's amazing! I happened to be in a wheelchair due to a terrible accident many years ago. I was supposed to be drafted via baseball but my injury changed all that. I was only 17yrs old but even at that time my Dad and I were thinking of buying a big screen which consisted of red, green and blue crts. Lol
    Since then I've been through all the formats going all the way back to laserdiscs..
    I'm 55 now and in the middle of switching out my old home theater. I recently refinanced and I'm selling my Sony vpl-55es projector, 120 inch vutec screen as well as my Denon x4200w AVR receiver.
    I'm getting a 130 inch screen and the JVC nz7 laser projector. I'm going with the Marantz sr8015 to power my Klipsch premier 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos speakers.
    I only need the 6 terabyte but it's the expense. They just had the strato-s with built in 6 terabytes and got rid of it in favor of the strato-c with the terra servers.
    I really envy you and I'm trying to find a deal somewhere.. 😀.
    You put out an excellent video to show just how good kaleidescope is!
    You really know your stuff going back to ripping movies etc.. I just buy the 4k HDR movies but kaleidescope would change all that for me...
    Great video and let me know if you see any deals out there.. lol

    Ps. Have a blessed day

    I am a Kaleidescape user and love it! Started with a 12TB Strato S in 2019 and have just recently added a Terra Server for my ever-expanding movie collection. A few comments. First, great video! Nice to see some new Kaleidescape users on board. Secondly, thank you for the helpful hints & tips, especially about compiling favorite scenes. Will definitely add this category to my collection. And finally, a comment on price. Yes, this is a luxury product and I agree it will not be for everyone. But it is hands down THE BEST movie-watching experience out there! You really do have to see it in person to get the full experience. Screenshot comparisons do help, but I would recommend contacting a dealer and seeing it for yourself. You will be hooked! But I understand, for most folks, it will be a little bit like driving a Ferrari for the first time. You will see and experience the difference between that and what you are currently driving but will be hard-pressed to go out and buy one. But for me, just do it, you'll never regret it 🎬🍿😍

It was definitely time to get one though. After a interstate move and packing and moving all my media I was done. The price of admission is high but it’s pretty worth it for me. Definitely have to factor in time and convenience to see if the price is worth it but it’s seriously worth a look.
      I honestly think that if more people had access to demo on they would sale more units. People know about them but until someone actually sees and and gets hands on time it’s hard to explain how nice they are.

I’m also using eight subs from Martin Logan and Mirage to augment my speakers which I crossover at 40hz to my main subs. My pre/pro is a McIntosh Mx122 and for amplification I’m using a McIntosh MC8207 rated at 7x200 watts per channel into 4 or 8 ohm, B&K components reference 200.3 rated at 3x220 watts per channel into ohms. In addition to the strato s, I’m using an OPPO UDP205 and Apple TV. For music I’m using a VPI Prime turntable with a Parasound JC3+ phonostage, a Chord Hugo DAC for hi-res streaming. For power conditioning I’m using two Panamax M5400-pm and to keep my process and amps cool I’m running three Ac Infiniti T8 fans. For automation I’m using a Harmony Elite(RIP) and an Amazon Echo for voice control. My display is a 75 inch Sony 4k HDR tv. Thanks again for showing an interest in my setup. DIY is neither easy nor free. If you want to store a lot of movies at home as rips, you're buying a hefty Synology and drives to fill it. You can get away cheaper with playback devices, but that storage costs. Set up is not really easy either from general set up to ripping to playback. It takes a significant amount of time and effort. @jaremypyle6314 Před 3 lety +1

      They have powerful options to control video and audio output, but no tone mapping. And while I know the compressed quality isn’t as good as the Kaleidscape, there are so many other conveniences that comes with disc/video copy ecosphere. Hey, yeah I totally hear you-it’s hard to move away from something with such a significant investment. We already have to access multiple services to view some content (i.e. Disney Plus for Mandalorian, Netflix for their proprietary content, Hulu for TV. So one more source fits right in. For my, it’s Plex for my older movies. For you, it could be iTunes for older movies, with all new movies bought via Kaleidescape.

For me most movies aren’t worth 35 dollars, but if I’m going to get a blu ray copy and a digital then I might swallow that price and even then unless you are buying the Steelbook copy they won’t cost that much. Decisions, decisions. Lol

      You could always consider an option for yourself where the bulk of your movie library is with Apple, but you also maintain key and favorite titles on Kaleidescape. Use the Kaleidescape for the titles you really care about and would really demand the extra quality when watching in the proper environment and leverage iTunes/Apple/Apple TV for everything else.

    Very jealous of the scripts, I wish Plex would do that. Only thing would be volume normalization, or like some way to remind me where to set the volume on each demo (since sometimes there is a big change in volume between recordings/movies). Storage wouldn't be enough for my current collection of remuxes, but I imagine you can expand that with a NAS pretty easily?

    • @BrolicBeast
      @BrolicBeast  Před 3 lety

      You know, I should test that out! Since kaleidescape processes every single movie file, I should look into whether or not they level the volumes. It would certainly make sense for them to do that but I wonder if they do. I'll look into this and report back here.

    Will they ever add Dolby Vision to the device?

    • @BrolicBeast
      @BrolicBeast  Před rokem +1

      Not with this generation, but the majority of customers don't need it because they use the video processors like lumagens with dynamic tone mapping. Many also use televisions and projectors with dynamic tone mapping features as well. Dolby Vision at its heart is dynamic tone mapping.

    Nice review. If they offered the option to aquire your existing media at a good discount then I might be tempted 🤔. Having to purchase the media again is hard to do. Having said that, I guess buying new media is where you're starting. A few years from now plex will be for legacy movies.
    What was the total cost?

    • @BrolicBeast
      @BrolicBeast  Před 3 lety +1

      Yup, exactly....Plex will be the platform for playing back of legacy discs. I would neeeeeever re-purchase all the movies I own....only the ones I KNOW I’ll be revisiting (like Gladiator or Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague). Thanks for the kind words on the review, also :-) .

    Really nice video but you didn't really hit on how it differs from Plex? Sounds like you got tired of the process of getting content to plex and preferred a more streamlined solution? Is that the biggest difference.
    I had thoughts of switching over but I'm just not a fan of their ecosystem. I like to be able to seamlessly watch from my phone, firesticks in each room or portable firestick in a hotel etc. Add various types of content too (not just movies) I also am big on quality and without Dolby vision and HDR10+ support what exactly are you paying for in quality upgrade? 10 more Mbps than a UHD? Appreciate the feedback but I'm like you before you jumped. I don't see the value in this just yet, and it's very little effort for me to function with plex currently.
    Thanks

    • @BrolicBeast
      @BrolicBeast  Před 3 lety

      ?? I actually focused on the many ways it differs from Plex by highlighting the features not found in options I’ve used before. User interface and content delivery via store, as well as the ability to create scenes in the interface versus having to manually make them in a separate program which is what I did with Plex. I hit several other differentiating factors as well. On the subject of Dolby VIsion, it’s no longer a major factor thanks to Dynamic Tone Mapping-especially on the Lumagen Radiance Pro that pioneered the process for video processors. Since then, blu ray players and projectors have taken on their own flavors DTM functionality, but the DTM in the Lumagen is second to none. There are no Dolby Vision enabled projectors though, so even if I didn’t have access to world class Dynamic Tone Mapping, Dolby Vision still wouldn’t be a factor for me and anyone else using a projector.
      I totally hear you on Using Plex....I used JRiver for 6 years, and Plex for 4 years....they’re great solutions, but they didn’t offer me things that increased in value to me as time passed: convenience of an online store, better user interface, and superior quality. The quality goes far beyond mbps/second-there is more data (larger files not compressed to fit onto a disc), which results in better quality video and audio for some titles (not all). I don’ t watch aaaaanything on my phone at all except CZcams, but if that’s part of how you consume your content then cool. That’s why I repeated in the video a couple times that this is a very personal choice!

    • @G0G0Joe
      @G0G0Joe Před 3 lety

      @Brolic Media Definitely agree it comes down to a personal preference. I was just googling and read "mbps/ bitrate was the most important factor in determining the video file size".
      I can watch movies in Dolby vision on my LG CX via plex, For me it's definitely a noticable difference in the color gamut/Range, HDR pop than my 4K projector (no comparison). I just think for the money required for Kscape they should be the main ones supporting these technologies as nothing is stopping a Kscape owner form owning an OLED tv. It's cool that Projector manufacturers are able to compensate with newer technologies being made available. I'm unsure if I'd be able to take advantage of that without spending more money. For the amount of money required for this system they should offer support so I can watch Dolby vision on Mars! Lol
      I don't watch Plex from my phone a lot but I do like the flexibility to be able to watch from anywhere anytime (including offline by downloading content locally). It took me 2 minutes, zero dollars to enable Plex on my firesticks. My point about the ecosystem was to point out the flexibility available. The ability to share content, view others people's libraries and direct play lossless av inside and outside of your house is huge in Plex. just a totally different system. Plex = all media types made widely available, easily sharable.
      As you likely already know the plex community is littered with people who host / share thousands and thousands of pieces of pirated content. This is the biggest power struggle Kscape owners are fighting against when the conversation begins with plex owners. Most Plex people won't come out and say it but that's what it is (imo), from what I've observed. It's like polar opposites of what's going on with Kscape & their users.
      I do think it's cool you have the ability to download content at a cost directly to your server. I've used 4k-hd.club before to do the same thing with my NAS

    Missed your videos!!! Do they ever run sales on the movies? How soon is a new release out? Maybe be difficult to compare since we are in COVID. For example, is the latest Godzilla vs. Kong out? Would loved to have seen the difference between the physical disc in your oppo (thought i remembered you had the 205) vs. Kladiscape. I think one concern i would have... the cost of the movie is the same as physical media.. lets say they go out of business or something happens to them in general.. what about all the movies you bought? Let’s say many movies later, you start running low on space... I would assume you could remove the movie from your local storage & always re-download it??? Did you consider Zappitti? Could address some of the time concerns. They definitely need DV. We need a gym update video...;o)...
