ROG 8 Pro vs. iPhone 15 Pro Max Genshin Impact FPS Performance Test | Gaming Android Phone vs iPhone

  • I've decided to do yet again another Genshin Impact FPS test, but this time a little bit different. Since its pretty obvious which phone would win as it pertains to raw gaming performance, I decided to test the strengths of each device to help those decide which phone is better for their gaming needs; as both devices have strengths and weaknesses.

    Setting Configurations (0:47)
    Genshin Impact FPS 16-Minute Test (1:15)

    Idk man but it's really hot in my region and Apple doesn't perform so well compared to other Android phones. When the phone gets hot after 20 minutes of gameplay it just throttles and becomes unplayable but android phone will still maintain the performance while being as hot as the iPhone. So I think for longer sessions of gaming, android phones are better than iPhones.

    • @TamasKiss-yk4st
      @TamasKiss-yk4st Před měsícem +2

      They start to throttle at about 10 mins (the Android, because iPhone already throttle at about 2 mins), so at least of the 16 mins long test was under throttling for both phone, and they will handle the throttling on the same way even on longer period, i mean if iPhone show that performance for 14 mins throttling than can do the same for longer too (until you plug in the charger, because that will add one more heat generation source..)

    • @inkursion5868
      @inkursion5868 Před měsícem

      I use custom kernels on android for years now to adjust throttling thresholds and performance profiles on my phone. The stock ones were too strict and lead to the game lagging almost constantly on SD845(Poco F1) and dropping frames too soon on SD870(Poco F3). Maybe it does slowly kill my phones, but it's either really slow or isn't a problem at all since I used that F1 for 5 years (3 of which with custom kernel) and my sister is still using it and plays genshin on it (never changed the battery in it as well) and F3 is still sitting at 95% battery even tho it's been nearly 2 years now

    Update 5/10: Dame, the reason why the thermals look so good on the iPhone is because you played on a controller. When I played with my hands it was overheating to 51.6 Celsius and the performance dropped to 56.8fps average with Max settings and MetalFX. However, when the controller was connected, I got 59.3 fps on Fontaine, and the temperature was at 46 degrees C.

      I dont think that's how metalfx works. Its taking the base resolution and upscaling it to the screen resolution, not actually making the phone render at double the resolution. And (as a side note) a guy made the snapdragon 8gen2 run genshin at NATIVE 4k with consistent 30fps (but it requires devide modding and 4k on a phone's screen is kinda pointless)@@amirbadran2764

  • @jarjarbinks8954
    @jarjarbinks8954 Před měsícem +2

    Could you explain how metalfx is increasing the resolution? According to my understanding of metalfx, setting it to the highest quality still means its rendering from a lower base resolution than it turned off. Im confused.Please do clear the confusion

    • @TamasKiss-yk4st
      @TamasKiss-yk4st Před měsícem +2

      Do you know anything about Nvidia DLLS, AMD FSR or Intel XeSS? All of them work about the same way, they are calculating the game images normally, but when it's ready they are upscaling it to a higher resolution, so you can get a bit higher fps like you get normally.
      Like you can get 120fps at 1080p, but only 70fps at 1440p natively with your GPU, but with turned on upscaling your computer still only calculating the 1080p images, but upscaling it to 1440p so you will get 1440p at 120fps instead of just 70fps for example.

    • @jarjarbinks8954
      @jarjarbinks8954 Před měsícem +3

      @TamasKiss-yk4st I do understand how these work. But the target resolution does not increase after applying these spatial/temporal upcalers if that makes sense. All of these render from a lower base resolution and upscale to the target resolution. The target resolution being static here as a reference. I think in the video he mentioned that enabling metalfx increases the resolution than what the iPhone does natively which is simply untrue. Again I'm not denying the performance benefits which are evident. The iPhone having lower GPU utilization is not Apple magic as some would have you believe. It's simply rendering the game at a lower base resolution and then applying metalfx on it

      Do you understand what you saw? I mean the Android had about 740p rendering resolution, and iPhone had almost 1300p, so nearly twice wider and twice taller was the rendering area (what is almost 4x more pixels in total, so definitly more demanding in performance, even if majority of those pixels comes from the upscaling, even that is not a free thing, it's also required performance.. and even before upscaling iPhone still had 800p rendering resolution which still 10% higher and 10% taller, and 1,1*1,1=1,21, which means at least 20% more pixels are calculated.. so until you can't do 20% more frames, if you multiply the total pixel/frame * fps, the iPhone still calculated way more pixels in each sec, so it did better job.. just check it which one looks better the 720p video or the 1440p video on youtube.. and let me ask you if the 720p video 60fps increasd to 61fps will look better than the 1440p with 59fps..? So until the Android only do the easy way, that 1-2fps difference is laughable, if it can do it also with 1300p than that is something, but even the 740p required 70% GPU load, while the 1300p on iPhone was 60% GPU load)
