    I am convinced that Hot Wheels did not make their own casting for the 288 GTO but simply took the bburago one and gave it an accurate paintjob, and swapped the rims and tail lights for better ones.

      @ImperialDiecast Před 3 lety +1

      @@justrandomstuff84 yup. and same thing happened when UT models who also had the ferrari license went bankrupt. And then it gets more confusing because for some cars for which UT toolings already existed, hot wheels decided to make their own tooling as well. Like with the F355, where hot wheels used to sell the UT tooling for the first few years but then made their own F355.

    HWE version is just a glorified Bburago, which in self is maybe 30 years old model. So not really surprising that KK has more accurate shape.

      Even age is not an excuse, many UT models from way back when are way more accurate than more modern renditions of the same cars.

    great comparo Rob. KK did a fine job for the money its easy to see why they are in the running some places for model of 2020 but really like you say its a shame none of the major players have touched this car in a proper detailed open diecast. Autoart could make a killing on the GTO... buy the license AA! lol

    The Tamiya 12th scale version is the best die cast of the GTO.

    • @szs114
      @szs114 Před 2 lety

      It is definitely the best one for the Ferrari GTO, however it is not a decast model. It mostly made from hard plastic.

  • @violian5
    @violian5 Před 3 lety +1

    I had the Hot Wheel Elite 288 GTO (in yellow) eons ago but sold it many years ago because I couldn't stand how "off" it looks - the side-view comparison is the best example. The Hot Wheels looks like they borrowed the BMW 850i molding from Maisto, and then tweaked it to make it look like a 288GTO. The F40 Hot Wheels Elite is the biggest atrocity from Mattel (I have the LM version and it looks whack) - if I remember during my days of trolling diecast forums, the Bburago Ferrari F40 that costs $30 has body proportions that are more accurate than the Hot Wheels.

    • @ROBSMODELCARS
      @ROBSMODELCARS  Před 3 lety

      I have not converted one yet, but have thought about the idea. Resin models are constructed so different to opening diecast models that it would be quite the task to do so, but I may in the future tackle such a project.

    If it's just for display, the KK-Scale models of the 288 GTO, the F40 and F50 are a really solid buy. In terms of the car's shape and details (exterior at least), they actually give even the premium brands a run for their money.
    Their build quality isn't as good and they are sealed, but again, if it's just for display, they are solid buys. I have all 3 of these (288 GTO, F40, F50), but I will eventually trade them for the BBR once I get enough money to buy them.

      The comparison was asked for as many have the Hotwheels Elite version and many bought the new KK scale version so that is why those 2 were compared. I do have a BBR 288 GTO coming (hopefully, it has been months) and the GT Spirit version was not out when I filmed the comparison.

    That is the sad things about the 1/18 scale Ferrari 288 for an opening model. I finally go with the 1/12 scale of the Tamiya Ferrari GTO for that car. Cause I really like the 288 GTO and I want an opening model.

  • @stfnMDQ
    @stfnMDQ Před 3 lety +2

    in my eyes the KK Scale is like a overdramatized idealized 288 GTO...and the HW/HW Elite/Bburago is a boring flat 288...the real car is something between these two...it shocks me how KK Scale made the rims too big, and front wheel arches too wide...in 2020 !

    Technically nice comparison, it could be a good start to an interesting series.
    But I would definitely choose the GT Spirit - model. Although there are mistakes, it is nicely processed and its shape is good. In addition, it has cut-outs in the hood. .In addition, the KK Scale has too big wheels, it spoils the silhouette.
