I'm English ,growing up in the 80s we didnt have football 24 7 on tv but I used to buy shoot and match annuals and remember loving the Celtic kit and badge ,then ended up going to a catholic school and learning more about the history and Celtic along with West Ham were my teams .
41 now and fell out of love with football years ago because I think money has ruined the game yet Ange and his Celtic team have rekindled my love for football again and I'm as fanatical as when I was a kid all over again 💚

Sir Rod even mentions Celtic in one of his famous 70s hits . I remember going to see Dundee 0 v 6 Celtic in a freezing December day in 1974 - Kenny Dalglish's best ever game for the hoops . Rod was playing celebrity , opening a record shop in Dundee that morning . In the the afternoon , he attended the match and was raving about Celtic and Dalglish's performance . Sir Rod loves Celtic .

No, he was a rangers fan. I've been attending games since the mid 80s. Not until Fergus saved us did he show his face. And that song was written in the 21st century. In fact, go find me a picture of Rod at paradise pre 21st century. There's dozens of photos of him in the 1970s and 80s wearing oldco tops.

    • @ThefightingCelt
      @ThefightingCelt Před rokem

@@loxism72 You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Rod never supported Rangers, his brother did. His father was from Edinburgh and a big Hibs fan. Rod only agreed to wear the Rangers strip during photo shoots for charity events ( one pictured with John Greig ) in mid 70s. Rod had already attended Celtic matches prior to this but like Billy Connolly ( kiddy on Partick Thistle fan at the time ), he also chose to hide his true allegiances, not wishing to divide his Scottish audiences. Rod actually made a public statement a couple of years ago to categorically repudiate any suggestion that he supported Rangers.

@@loxism72 I've been attending Celtic matches since 1964 - pre Jock Stein. It was all due to Jock , Kenny Dalglish and Jinky in 1971 that Rod became a Celtic fan for life. Celtic have beat Barca a few times since 2000 . we beat them and put them out the uefa cup when Alan Thompson scored the winner...drew with them a few times , once in the nu camp with Hartson scoring. Dundee Utd did that in the 80s.. Celtic beat one of the best footballing teams ever assembled....You dont hear us constantly rave about beating teams like Juventus, Ac Millan, Bayern Munich, Man utd, Valencia, Porto, Benfica etc etc at home in the Champions league in the 00s naughties. Celtic park was a fortress... But there was something special about that Barca team with Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc and with the gulf in finances now and in 2012/13 that just made the win all the more sweet. but i hear you.. It is great Rod Stewart supports a Scottish side. I am glad he supports a Scottish side.
I support Aberdeen. I do not want Scottish sides to join the English leagues. As people would think Scotland was part of England. But I would love a cross border cup on top of domestic and European football. I think a Cross border Celtic Nations Club Cup, on top of European and omestic football.
By the way. Someone should invent a cross border Celtic Nations Club Cup for soccer on top of domestic and European football.
I would like a cross border cup between all Scottish Premiership sides. Plus selected sides from Northern Ireland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany. There could also be sides invited from England, France, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Belgium.
This would be on top of domestic and European soccer.
Travel would be no tougher than the trips various football teams do in European trophies.
Look at the trips that African teams to do in African soccer.
Travel would be no tougher than many trips in professional club sports in Australia, Canada, the USA, Mexico, India, China, Russia, and Brazil.
My idea would be a group stage trophy, followed by a knockout stage leading to a final.
Imagine games like Glasgow Celtic v Nantes, Hibernian v Cork City, Larne v St Johnstone, Cardiff City v Aberdeen, Glasgow Rangers v Swansea City, Wrexham v Dundee United, Rennes v Heart of Midlothian, Linfield v The New Saints, Caernarfon v Ross County, Truro City v the Isle of Man, Lorient v Motherwell, and Stade Brestois 29 v Shamrock Rovers.
I would enjoy cross border matches for all Scottish Premiership sides each season.
The population of the Celtic nations of Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Man, and Cornwall add up to around 20 million persons.
It would be a good market, for Scottish teams to play in. It would be a good thing for Scottish sides to have cross border matches.
Cross border matches are my favourite, as clubs are playing for national and local pride.
