I'm English ,growing up in the 80s we didnt have football 24 7 on tv but I used to buy shoot and match annuals and remember loving the Celtic kit and badge ,then ended up going to a catholic school and learning more about the history and Celtic along with West Ham were my teams .
41 now and fell out of love with football years ago because I think money has ruined the game yet Ange and his Celtic team have rekindled my love for football again and I'm as fanatical as when I was a kid all over again 💚
great news pal...West Ham are doing well just now tho...Hail Hail.
Celtic & west ham are both my teams too
@@fiachradillon8569 Frank MacAvennie..where's the burds..lol
Celts and the Irons... can't beat them....
Nice to see I'm not the only 1 ! I follow celtic more now ,I dont like what's happened in the prem you can get clubs like Chelsea (who I hate ) ,City ,Newcastle get a billionaire owner and immediately catapulted to championship contenders . I'm loving everything about Celtic this season
In terms of skill and longevity as a player, this Aberdeen fan, considers that Bobby Lennox is the greatest ever Celtic player.
👍 fast as hell was bobby
Bobby Lennox is one of the best ever to wear the hoops you are right there bud...but not the best ever....none of us saw James McGrory...
Called him Buzz Bomb
Rod doing the cup draw was hilarious, but then Stubbs being the man to mess up put the icing on the cake
Great little segment. My dad who recently past away, two biggest love was Celtic and Rod Stewart. He actually managed to catch a Rod Stewart Signed Football at a concert in Australia and cherished it along side his Celtic memorabilia.
That it is actually amazing, that he caught the ball. I have family members who have told me that he kicks the balls into the crowd. Sorry to hear about your loss.
Hail Hail
@@lmcguire3790 Thank you. Hail Hail🍀
I played with Rod for Highgate T A in the Barnet prem division in the seventies.
A right laugh, up The Wrestlers pub in Highgate afterwards..😃
Fs what a claim to fame mate. Was he any good ?
@@paulgal Yeah, he was a tidy player, liked it to feet..

Try old Trafford when wee took over against rapid Vienna that was the best atmosphere ever bar the result.still hate the bastards

If Londoners can support Man Utd and Liverpool, then this fella can support Celtic... My parents are Irish, and that's where I stand too. Its not where you are born but where your heart is...
Respect from Ireland 🇮🇪
It’s not where you were born, it’s where your heart is…… what a wonderful quote
My grandparents are Irish, I support Arsenal and Celtic due to my grandad and dad doing the same. That’s usually how football works I find.
I follow England, but I’ll always look out for Ireland results due to my heritage.
Too true my friend
If you don't know where you are from, you don't know where you are or where you're going. It's important to respect your ancestry. God knows what our forefathers and mothers went through to get us here.
Im sure a read somewhere that some of is his older siblings were born in scotland, then his parents moved South and he was born in England
All this time I thought he was Scottish

@@djelalniyazi4090 he was born London somewhere

Sir Rod even mentions Celtic in one of his famous 70s hits . I remember going to see Dundee 0 v 6 Celtic in a freezing December day in 1974 - Kenny Dalglish's best ever game for the hoops . Rod was playing celebrity , opening a record shop in Dundee that morning . In the the afternoon , he attended the match and was raving about Celtic and Dalglish's performance . Sir Rod loves Celtic .
No, he was a rangers fan. I've been attending games since the mid 80s. Not until Fergus saved us did he show his face. And that song was written in the 21st century. In fact, go find me a picture of Rod at paradise pre 21st century. There's dozens of photos of him in the 1970s and 80s wearing oldco tops.
@@loxism72 You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Rod never supported Rangers, his brother did. His father was from Edinburgh and a big Hibs fan. Rod only agreed to wear the Rangers strip during photo shoots for charity events ( one pictured with John Greig ) in mid 70s. Rod had already attended Celtic matches prior to this but like Billy Connolly ( kiddy on Partick Thistle fan at the time ), he also chose to hide his true allegiances, not wishing to divide his Scottish audiences. Rod actually made a public statement a couple of years ago to categorically repudiate any suggestion that he supported Rangers.
@@ThefightingCelt really. I've been attending matches since 1984. I've seen over 20 different photos of Rod in rangers tops from the 1980s and 90s. So, doesn't want to split his audience but wears hun tops over 20 times. Where was he when our on was on the brink? I saw Jim kerr, Brian dempsey, fegus etc, but not once did Rod the prod say a word. I do have an idea what I'm talking about
@@loxism72 I've been attending Celtic matches since 1964 - pre Jock Stein. It was all due to Jock , Kenny Dalglish and Jinky in 1971 that Rod became a Celtic fan for life. He even built a football pitch to the exact measurements of Celtic Park on his property . Btw Billy Connolly wore Rangers tops for similar charitable and other public events.
@@ThefightingCelt aye, if you say so. That pitch was built this century.
Rod Stewart always fancied himself a right back as much as a singer/rocker. He played recreational football his whole life and surely it helped him stay healthy and youthful. Got to respect that big time.
He was a good midfielder D Merls, skipped over the mud on seventies pitches.
We played in a decent league, ex semi pros, etc, however, I get the recreational, he was busy in the USA..😆
The first Champions league final what I watched was Celtic vs Inter Milan in 1967. Celtic won. Great team.
@Scimmia It was the European Champions Cup. The champion tyeams from every country in Europe were competing.
@Scimmia champions league trophy has Celtic written on it lol
Yip Celtic won that game playing such an aggressive attacking style that had never been seen before, was 2-1 going on 5
@Pollywog to be fair we got called out by Madrid then went to their home and beat them to prove it wasn’t a fluke
Same trophy
The Premier League is already the strongest, richest, and most popular league in the world. It seems to me Celtic and Rangers need the Premier League much more than the Premier League needs them.
Cool story
@Scimmia thats what they said basically....
It would be madness to allow Celtic and Rangers into the EPL. They have a massive fan base and if allowed in they would end up with massive financial might.
Right now Celtic has near to premier league club revenues playing in Scotland and you can only imagine what it would be like in the EPL.
Yeah Norwich and brentford add much more than they would. Scared of them is more the point.
Super League of UK I guess if happened..
Jimmy Johnston was unbelievable player, could have played for any club in the world 🍀🍀
@B W Watch Real Madrid v Celtic in the Bernabeau. De Stefanos testamonial.after Celtic won the European cup then come back. iI promise you you will change your view....Please have a watch..
And you say pub leaguein the 12 years since Jimmy Johnstone won the Eropean cup Celtic were in the european cup quarter finals in 9 out of the 12 years, 4 semi finals and 2 finals. winning it once. Rangers were in the eufa cup final same year 1967 and won the cup winners cup in 1972....Pub league it certainly was not..
See the thing is Jimmy Johnson and wullie Henderson could have played with any team in the world no doubt about it. Real madrid or men u would have loved to have both of them but remember in the 60s and 70s they were playing with the best team's in the world in the best league in the world 🌎
The Scottish league was amazing back then and it wasn't just rangers and celtic that were beating the best teams in europe, it was aberdeen queen's Park and Dundee utd hibs ect...
Intresting fact Dundee utd have played barcelona 3 times and barcelona haven't win one of them their best result against Dundee utd was a draw and utd won the other 2 plus no Portuguese team has ever won at ibrox stadium still to this day even though we've played Portuguese opposition in 3 times in the last 4 years including porto and benfica
@B W Wankstain.
@B W you sound jealous
Rod became a celtic fan after his father who was a scot introduced rod to big jock stein his father also drummed in to him when growing up to be proud of his scottish roots although rod's mother was english he also was a arsenal fan going in the old north bank but rod is also very proud of his cockney roots and proud to be british as he pays tribute to the british army and some songs testify to that i admit maby he should have supported england at least because he was born in north london i think he is outstsnding performer and a very caring man who by and large loves GB.
That'll go down well at parkheed proud to be British, and proud of the british Army, he's clueless!

The best way for Celtic and Rangers to join English football is for them to go to the Efl championship and get promoted in the first season, then a further 2 or 3 years in the epl giving other Scottish teams a chance to make history, win titles and progress so that when Celtic and Rangers come back they have better competition.
They can't join the English league because there is a Scottish League. The Welsh teams were playing in the English league before there was a Welsh league.

If you know your history ,A Tottenham Hotspur original song from the old days
Great song, Spurs fans certainly sing it but I think we nicked it off Celtic. Celtic began singing it in 61, Spurs started in 67 at FA cup final apparently. Been sung at Spurs definitely for decades, i started going in 76 and it was sung then. COYS.
I heard the tune in a old western the man who shot liberty valance so it's a old song rangers fans sing hullo hullo we are the billy boys that's a old civil war song marching thru Georgia when sherman smacked the south 🍀🇺🇸
If his dad was a Hibernian supporter he should have been a Hibernian supporter.
Let em play in the FA cup. Wouldn't affect revenue of other Scottish clubs..
Oh look the myth that Scotland needs the old firm (which doesn’t exist anymore) Scottish football would be just fine. In answer to the question of who wants to watch St Mirren? The St Mirren loyal fan base do and whoever they are playing against fans want to watch that. This idea that we need an English audience is a fallacy. The league has big clubs, Aberdeen, Hibs, Dundee Utd Heats etc all capable of pulling 20k plus crowds. Dundee Utd took 28k to hampden, Aberdeen have a massive fan base took 50k to a cup final. Scottish football would be competitive we don’t need nor want rangers newco or Celtic
I'm a Celtic fan but that comment was disrespectful from Rod. Viewing figures for Scottish games outside Celtic and Rangers are actually quite good.
@Scimmia 11,977 is a good crowd in a country with 5 million people. How many clubs from small countries pull five figures?
When he said he likes to spend 😂 not expecting 4 grand lol

With all due respect Rod (and plenty is due) we Scottish football supporters of non OF teams would be happy to see them go. And regarding beating Barca... my team, the last Scottish club to reach the EC/ECL Semis, didi it twice, home and away.
Celtic have beat Barca a few times since 2000 . we beat them and put them out the uefa cup when Alan Thompson scored the winner...drew with them a few times , once in the nu camp with Hartson scoring. Dundee Utd did that in the 80s.. Celtic beat one of the best footballing teams ever assembled....You dont hear us constantly rave about beating teams like Juventus, Ac Millan, Bayern Munich, Man utd, Valencia, Porto, Benfica etc etc at home in the Champions league in the 00s naughties. Celtic park was a fortress... But there was something special about that Barca team with Xavi, Iniesta, Messi etc and with the gulf in finances now and in 2012/13 that just made the win all the more sweet. but i hear you.. And i supported Utd all the way back then. Sturrock to Clarke in the Nu Camp i was jumping about my livingroom celebrating with my da..Good old days.

He regrets supporting Celtic and Scotland. Was probably trendy in the 70s now its different.
It is great Rod Stewart supports a Scottish side. I am glad he supports a Scottish side.
I support Aberdeen. I do not want Scottish sides to join the English leagues. As people would think Scotland was part of England. But I would love a cross border cup on top of domestic and European football. I think a Cross border Celtic Nations Club Cup, on top of European and omestic football.
By the way. Someone should invent a cross border Celtic Nations Club Cup for soccer on top of domestic and European football.
I would like a cross border cup between all Scottish Premiership sides. Plus selected sides from Northern Ireland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Man and Brittany. There could also be sides invited from England, France, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Belgium.
This would be on top of domestic and European soccer.
Travel would be no tougher than the trips various football teams do in European trophies.
Look at the trips that African teams to do in African soccer.
Travel would be no tougher than many trips in professional club sports in Australia, Canada, the USA, Mexico, India, China, Russia, and Brazil.
My idea would be a group stage trophy, followed by a knockout stage leading to a final.
Imagine games like Glasgow Celtic v Nantes, Hibernian v Cork City, Larne v St Johnstone, Cardiff City v Aberdeen, Glasgow Rangers v Swansea City, Wrexham v Dundee United, Rennes v Heart of Midlothian, Linfield v The New Saints, Caernarfon v Ross County, Truro City v the Isle of Man, Lorient v Motherwell, and Stade Brestois 29 v Shamrock Rovers.
I would enjoy cross border matches for all Scottish Premiership sides each season.
The population of the Celtic nations of Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Cornwall, the Isle of Man, and Cornwall add up to around 20 million persons.
It would be a good market, for Scottish teams to play in. It would be a good thing for Scottish sides to have cross border matches.
Cross border matches are my favourite, as clubs are playing for national and local pride.
