    Yoga sequences in our personal practice and in our teachings is an ever-evolving process influenced by a myriad of experiences, learnings, and changes, both physically and non-physically.
    One of the most helpful things when teaching a sequence is that you know it in your body; your body remembers all the little micro-movements, activations, and inner sensations of each posture and transition. When we are at this level of knowing a sequence, the sequence itself becomes second nature and you have this multi-layered library of experiences to share in your class.
    One thing I love to do to refine my sequences and cueing is to nerd it out on the mat!
    A few foundational tips for you to experiment with:
    - Craft a simple sequence; don’t make it complicated.
    - Practice that sequence every day for at least 2 weeks, even if it’s only for short amounts of time.
    - Put your focus on a different aspect or layer in each practice; for instance the foundations, activations, alignments, or breath flow.
    - Take notes during or directly after the practice; note down what you’ve learned and discovered. Get curious!
    I hope this was helpful and you find sweet, new discoveries in this process of your yoga teaching journey!
    Love,
    Meghan

    Wow this is a really fantastic explanation and guide! I'm aspiring to lead a small yoga circle once my individual practice is more expanded and it's so important now that I know how to start building up to that

    You communicated this so beautifully & humbly. One question: if you are teaching multiple sequences a week, would u say practicing it once is enough to really know, feel & radiate it in your body?

    Thank you for beautifully breaking that down. What a simple concept of designing your sequence.

    I just make mine on the spot by being channeled what my classes need. I'll have an idea of what transitions and postures I want to do. But I don't think about how I'm going to get there I just let it happen and discover it the moment. And that for me is when the magic happens. Also practicing by myself I find new transitions that others haven't thought of. I think writing preplanned sequences take too much time to remember and also it might not be what your students need.

    i would love to know you create a sequence, whats your process on that aspect? how do you not get over excited and want to do everything you know, without complicating it? :)

    • @MeghanCurrieYogaStudio
      @MeghanCurrieYogaStudio  Před 2 lety +15

      hah thats a great question! Well, I've had a lot of experience teaching, and I know very well how it feels for the participants and myself when the sequence is overcomplicated. It doesn't allow time and space for people to really sink in, for their nervous systems to calm, and for the class to feel yummy overall! The students having a generally yummy experience that is helpful for their body/mind is my top priority. I ask myself, how can I really serve by creating sequences that are educational, empowering, and nourishing? They can still be creative and interesting, but too much busyness has an uprooting effect. My desire for people is that they feel embodied, grounded, strong yet open. So maybe ask yourself, what is your desire for your students? How do you want them to feel during and after your class? And then sculpt sequences that radiate that. Let me know if that helps!!
