    A lot of M-36B1 have shown up over the years. Quite a few showed up in Iranian service in their war with Iraq. They were all regular sherman tanks at first ,but Iran needed more firepower, so they took the turrets off M-36 tank destroyers and mounted them on better armoured Sherman hulls ,. The shermans went from76mm to 90mm guns and proved more useful than regular shermans. Some were captured and used by Iraq and it is possible a few showed up in the Iraqi army when the various coalitions came along later .

    As I am slowly returning to the hobby after a loooong break, This is a brilliant option for me. 4 kits for the price of 2 has got to be good for the budget, and since they are cheap I'm not worried about any mistakes I might make. 1/35 airfix kits are a new thing to me also, so i'm loving the idea of this mystery box. Can't wait for it to arrive. Hello from Aotearoa(NZ)

    The Tiger kit also includes, as far as I can tell, all the parts to build an early version tank. The turret parts consist of two turret bodies and three "lids". The early variant has a deeper cupola but then who's looking. I'm waiting until end of Jan before I order another set.

    The 76mm gun was the more power Sherman main gun. The M4 originally went into combat with a short 75mm that lacked velocity. To get kills Sherman units had to get a lot closer to German armor to score a knockout. The 75 was primarily intended for use against buildings and soldiers not anti tank use. The 76 was a longer barrel gun with a significantly larger brass casing to increase the velocity. This gun proved far more effective then the 75 at knocking out panzer 3s, panzer 4s and depending on where you shot at, panthers. The W indicated wet ammo storage. Wet ammo stoage was supposed to reduce the risk of ammo cook off, reduce the risks of spalling hot metal igniting it, and if set on fire was supposed to give you more time to fight said fire or bail out of the tank before it blew up. I believe the 76mm was the answer to your British firefly. A Sherman packing the dreaded 17 pounder AT gun

    DAMN that is an awesome mystery box right out of the gate. A Jumbo and a Tiger alone is worth it.

    I think,the Airfix 1/35 Tank kits,are from Academy!

    It’s also worth pointing out that the M7 priest was not in fact based on a Sherman hull. It was actually built on the hull of the previous M3 Lee tank which shared the same basic guts as the M4 but used a hull sponson mounted 75mm gun main gun cause we couldn’t cast a turret big enough to accommodate the 75. Most us combat vehicles prior to the M4A3E8 or easy 8 shared the same vertical volute suspension system. Which gives a similar appearance to the lower parts. I believe the M24 Chaffee and M26 Pershing used torsion bars. ( of note the basic design of the M26 lasted all the way to the M60 MBT )

    I bought three of these sets (one of them was for a guy I know who does builds for scouts). You didn't factor in your discount into your final calculation. The normal club discount is 10% (making it £67.50) but, like you said, in November they offered 20% off making the cost of the tanks £60 making the saving of £97.38. What's not to like?

    My 4 tanks were: Tiger 1 (Late ver), M4A3(76)W SHERMAN, Priest, and M36B1 GMC same as you and same as another youtuber so don't think they were that random and rather they shipped the ones they had a to big stock of?
    Defo happy with mine though

    An update on the tank bundle. The Airfix site now states "save upto 40%". Does this mean the contents have now changed?.

    How can Airix with a straight face charge so much for mediocre kits. They might be new toolings, however they're just like the kits from the 80s and early 90s. Just with the addition of a photo etch fret. This is why this company has gone into receivership so many times. Simply because they're not prepared to move with the times. I've just bought an late production Sherman from Dragon brand-new for £32and it didn't have any crappy rubber band tracks in it. It did however have three different sets of road wheels, three different sets of engine deck grills, a turned aluminium gunbarrel and a separate set of four miniatures as well as other stuff.

    • @alancampbell1008
      @alancampbell1008 Před 2 lety +4

      I think they took a lot of production back to the UK which would account for the cost, Chinese labour costs are so much lower and I'd imagine their H&S requirements and factory emissions standards are probably a lot lower than in the UK so they can afford to produce better kits for a similar price. At least with Airfix you get to exercise your modelling skills rather than just putting it together and painting.

    I quite like the video but one thing that stands out and I’m a bit wary of mentioning it but please blow your nose before starting, I hate the ‘snotty wet sounds’ every few seconds! I’m sorry but it is very unprofessional and off i putting. -
