once on a wedding party i have seen an old man, i remember him being totally bold. It didnt seem to me strange considering his age, but than I was told he was actual veteran of Monte Cassino battle, and he went bold over single night, just because of horrors of the battle and extreme stress. War looks good only in movies, it needs to be sheer nightmare. I cant imagine what ww2 vets went through, especially those of 2 Polish Corps, seperated from their families who meanwhile were subjected to Nazi and Soviet regimes... @@alex-fs9yt oh, fair.
You missed the REALLY sad part. When he retired to a zoo in England, It was because New polish communist government would make him into a mascot for the new political party. They didn't want that, so he ended up in England. When It was time to say goodbye, the soldiers, all orphans, outcasts and straight up badasses, cried like little girls over the bear. The one who was meant to deliver him to the zoo had it the worst. He left him in his pen. Hugging him one last time, saying his goodbyes. He left him there, telling him to stay. And the bear stood where he was. Didn't move. Just waiting for his friend to come back. Night came, then morning, Wojtek realized he's gone for good. Then he let out a roar.
The soldier had clinical depression for two weeks after that. He could've come back, of course. But later he said that "The pain of reuniting with Wojtek and leaving him over and over again would be too much for both of them. It's the best for both of us." He Was the only one to never see his friend ever again.
I felt something like this after my grandpa gave our senior horse to another person who had the facilities to care for him. As much as I wanted to see my horse again I couldn’t feel the pain of leaving him again.

As someone who grew up in an area with a lot of bears I can vouch that they really are the sweetest animals. In fact, outside of Grizzly and Polar bears, most bears would be herbivores if they didn't resort to eating meat when food is scarce. Their diet is 99% berries and bugs! They get a bad rep because they're territorial and will attack anything that poses a threat to their cubs. Not meant to be a pet, but they don't really pose a huge danger to you.
Good to know.
Bears are known to just sit and enjoy the scenery in open areas. Some will sit next to photographers and enjoy the peace.
To be fair Polar bears hunt humans because they are starving and can’t hunt seals because there isn’t enough sea ice.
Unpopular opinion is that polar bears have every right to eat us. We filled the air with CO2, and now they have nowhere to hunt.
I’m not saying I want to be eaten by a polar bear, but if I were a polar bear I’d want to eat humans too. 😂

@@XMorbidReignX i know mate i have coworkers who spend seasons in the arctic and the bears are straight up just observing them for days on end before approaching the camp. they used to shoot flare guns at them to scare them off, but it barely works anymore because the bears just aren't scared off by it. it's a real problem!
Many of people might not know(also Polish people), but in Polish army there was also an another bear - this time the polar one. This story reminds me of the stories my grandfather in law told me from his time in the Royal Navy. He was often in the East and talked about his pet capuchin monkey Captain Blye that he bought from a market. He also told us a story of the ship’s pet budgie and how he would sit on the edge of a pint and sip the ale, falling on his back after he drank too much. Unfortunately one day he fell back on the ground and was accidentally stepped on. They gave him a proper funeral at sea, wrapping him in the Union Jack in a tiny coffin.
My grandfather in law recently passed away. I miss him. RIP Grandad ❤️
That reminds me of my Grandmother who worked in the Army during the war on an anti aircraft site. One day the battery's mascot, a bulldog, was run over by a car and killed instantly. The battalion commander had everyone turned out in best uniform, held a full burial service for a fallen soldier with full honours and had his brother from the local RAF base arrange for a flypast of a Spitfire!
To this day, once a year, she goes to where the dog is supposed to be buried and places flowers down

“... ...yes!”
'Is your knowledge of geography so vast that your actually picturing the terrain rn?'
This didn't ruin history, it made history better!! And listening to this story, you figure what type of men these soldiers were. They raised a young bear into someone more human than the rest of us. This is so heart warming.
Andrew saying 'adorable' with a completely emotionless face is my constant mood
Jeez...
Every day I learn a new weird thing about WW2
Do you know about the Jack Churchill, a member of the British army who fought with a longbow, bagpipes, and Scottish broadsword and SURVIVED.
The King of the Virgins I didn't! Thanks for telling me, I will look him up 😌
deadlyNightshade789 same
deadlyNightshade789 most of facts about ww2 are horrible, not weird, so I fon't know where you are learning those
deadlyNightshade789 look up. Operation five cherry blossoms at night.
17:29 the narration make me chocked up, realizing that wojtek is not only a bear but also a brother in arms to polish soldier
Wojtek was raised by soldiers so he acted like one and acted like a human, that’s why he was so friendly towards people he knew and why he was one of the villagers in the Scottish village, but his bear instinct kicked in when he saw the other bear
i truly expected that he would have like attacked one of his comrades but he didn't cause he's a lit bear
I hope that's also a pun for the cigarette thing
li yeya you know it😏
a brown bears life expectancy is 20-25 years and for Wojtek to live 23 years and swallow and eat lit cigarettes is pretty great
My boy Wojtek, finally getting (even more) love and appreciation 💕
I love how the teddy bear has a cigarette in is mouth
Imagine wojtek and Michael chatting it up in heaven eating some cigs and remembering that one time wojtek kicked Michael's butt.
:')
*Rest in Peace, Wojtek the Bear*
may you continue to swallow lit cigarettes in your bear heaven
and drink beer
or maybe don't do that
Never thought I’d cry watching one of these. He went out doing what he loved, swallowing lit cigarettes🤣
This video is perfect for a good cry.
Ryan: 'I was getting choked up too. It reminded me, I have a heart.'
It's scary how much I relate to that sentence.
History was not ruined, it was improved
I like how this is kinda like a precursor to puppet history
XD I distinctly remember having an online friend call me this, because of the translation that meant ‘joyful warrior’, I was confused but still thought it was kinda adorable
This story is Poland in a nutshell.
Humor, Heroism, drinking and still somehow failing to keep their country unoccupied during the war.
I love my country.
Not really somehow... Image anyone else in our geographical and political situation, between Germans, that also attacked from north and soutch (Czehoslovakia) and east with Soviet Russia, while having almost little to none narutal barriers :P We did very well, considering theese facts.
@@alekjanowski9847 I just hate when someone think Czechosłowakia atacked us together with Germany and USSR.
They were already anexed- Slovakia was German puppet, and that country atacked us together with Germany in 1939, not Czechoslovakia.
@@starhalanonim2859 I meant teritory, but I see your point my mistake! :P
@@alekjanowski9847 Ok, no problem.
Around one month ago someone told me, that Czechoslovakia atacked us together with Germany- since then I make sure to correct these who think so.
This truly makes me proud to be of polish descent
He was actually private Wojtek when he arrived in Italy and promoted to corporal following the battle of Monte Cassino
So the bear had a higher rank than the privates. Meaning they had to treat him with respect and follow it's orders
@@Cactusjhon He's a bear, when faced with a bear no matter the rank your are outranked
@@Cactusjhon actually In the U.S army atleast corporal is not a NCO rank, if i remember correctly its either a E3 or E4
@@Uniformtree000 When faced with a bear, do as it says. Wether it's in the military or out ranks you doesn't matter. You do as it says lol
@@snakevenom4954 when in the military you also are armed, or have a buddy to throw at the bear and run
allies: we need more soldiers
the polish: hold my Żubr.
"Gonna be even more adorable when he starts ripping out people's spines"
They'd be nazi spines...I'm ok with that!
