This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I do it. - Věda a technologie
Mine came in yesterday. I plan to use it for model railroading. So far I really like it. Thanks.
I bought my elderly father in law the popular kaiweets meter and that one pops up on Amazon a day later haha. I'd rather have a cheap meter and good leads than a 150 dollar one with the same Chinese leads most brands use. The kaiweets has faster acquisition time than my 200 dollar owon with probemasters haha
Looks like a nice little meter, and the accuracy was good. I won't be getting one, as I have a serious multimeter problem; I have at least 10 of them in my workshop, probably more buried away in drawers and boxes and forgotten about too🙂. I have a meter identical to that Hioki one that you showed, except mine is branded as RS (UK). I got it over 20 years ago, and it's still working perfectly well too.
7:36 hmm that beer must be pretty strong ! 😜😜
What's a decimal point here or there among friends?
I got This that day you showed us.
Currently it's sold out.
I let them know that it was sold out in Canada when I recorded the video. Hopefully they fix that before the video goes public on Friday
Probe master has a set for like 18 bucks that should fit this multimeter. So you aren't out of luck and Ebay sells an adapter that should allow you to use regular leads. I have a Kaiweets meter not this one though and I like it.
This meter looks identical to the Aneng 619a currently at sale at Banggood for around USD25. But only 1 left now.
Nice meter for on-the-go situations.
DRAWBACK is the batteries go dead after 1 month even if not turned on...that is why they give you extra batteries with it
Yeah, that's annoyingly common with pretty much anything that has a "soft" power switch instead of a switch that cuts the battery connection.
I think the main issue for me would be only having 2V on the diode test function. Did you actually test this on a non-red LED, or could you quickly do that for us?
The specs make me think it must be running the CR2032's in parallel, for only (max) 3V power. Yet they can illuminate the white LED for the flashlight, so that's odd. Hmmm.
Of my 10 or so meters, I don't I have any that are unable to illuminate a 3V LED. Most (and all of the 2xAA models) include a tiny boost converter so they can also test low voltage Zeners at low current.
I have a pretty serious question. When you did the live test, poking the probe into the power strip. Why was the neutral side of the power strip hot? I don't understand because I am an electrician by trade and have always known the larger slop of outlets and power receptacles to be the neutral. When wiring receptacles, the screw on the hot side is brass (and sometimes even painted black), and the neutral is silver, meaning the white wire goes on the silver and the black (hot) goes on the brass. After a lifetime of wiring, have I been wrong all these years? BTW, I love that meter, it appears to be something I would love to have on the bench. Thanks! ~Markus
I'll have to check that power bar - it has a replacement male plug on it (I got it at a yard sale, not sure who replaced the plug) so it is possible it's wired wrong.
I was about to comment the same.
I think I had some cheap multimeter leads fail before but I don't remember if it was something else or not
I have one set with a huge burn in them (from a soldering iron mishap)
That's one of the benefits of the expensive silicone jacketed leads.
did you discover how it detects when the lead is in the current (amps) position?
There isn't anything obvious that I noticed.
Probably just a second contact inside the female jack, I would expect.
You didn't say, and I can't tell by looking at the screen, so I need to ask...
Are the screws holding the back on self-tappers into plastic, or machine screws into threaded inserts?
Also - you said the only reason most people would have to remove the back would be to replace the fuse, but don't you have to do it to change the batteries too?
The battery door screw goes into a metal insert (machine screw). The 4 that hold the back on are self-tapping into plastic. Though the only time most people would need to go in there is if they needed to replace the fuse.
@@pileofstuff Ah, I see... I didn't realize there was a separate battery compartment door _in_ the cover.
@@RottnRobbie There's a lot of detail that I recorded but edited out to try and keep this under 20 min.
1.72V forward voltage for the Schottky diode? It reads 0.172V.
You see, the big screen on the meter is proving it's value already!
What about life on the batteries?
I'll have to update you when they die.
It's going to depend on how often you use the flashlight feature and the backlight, though.
Second post, sorry. Damn that fluke is nice. I will have a good fluke someday, oh yes someday. Haha
Like I said, the Fluke is the best one I can borrow from work.
As nice as it is, I can't justify the price for hobby dicking around in the basement. The cheap ones are perfectly fine for that.
@@pileofstuff I agree with you 100 percent. I have to rewire my new workshop in the spring so I can move our of the basement. Our house we recently bought has a detached heated garage with its own power bill because it was once a cabinet making workshop. I'd like to have a fluke for that, the brother in law is the manager local fluke dealer. They make a fortune from nova scotia power with them. Even at wholesale the 87v is obscene.
I'm not saying there is no need for a good meter but have you seen a meter that aside from failing isn't very accurate or just wrong
Yes, I have one. It's an old RadioShack meter, and it's the least accurate one I own.

Why do you start your videos by drinking beer?
I need to have a drink handy when I'm talking this much, and why shouldn't it be an interesting beer?
@@pileofstuff I'm probably going to be pounced on by hundreds of your viewers but (gulp) I'm sure you could find equally interesting non alcoholic beverages to imbibe. Either way it's splitting hairs. Just curious. Love the videos and please carry on God bless
@@pleasecho2 - why would he waste time drinking non-alcoholic rubbish? He's drinking it *_BECAUSE_* it's beer...
