Features I like about this radio:
Audio quality is very good from low to medium volume levels.
FM reception is average but enjoyable.
AM reception is good, mainly for local broadcasts and stronger stations.
SW reception is decent, just takes time and a little finesse to get the stations in tune.
USB player. I love the sound of my Old Time Radio shows on this radio.
Takes 2 D batteries.
Has an AC adapter for those in the UK and other nations that use 220 volts.
Nice Carrying handle.
Cabinet has a good build quality to it.
Features that could be improved on:
Fix the loose knobs.
Better selectivity on the dial when using SW and AM.
Stereo playback on headphones.
Overall, a fun radio that should be priced around the $35 USD mark and not any higher. The ebay value might be higher due to it being an import.

It's nice to see that big companies haven't abandoned good old radio
Claudiu Rusu - But all have abandoned transistor sets, and kept IC sets at 3 v input, for they know beyond that it would be motor beating in AM.

I just did a head to head a comparison test between this radio and the Panasonic RF-562D, on the SW particularly and i can say this radio did as good if not slightly better than the Panasonic 562.. Honestly I was impressed because i never expected this radio would do good on SW when i bought it since i bought it for the USB feature. Toshiba did a nice decent work on this one.

I just bought this for my uncle who is in hospital recovering from a stroke. I am building a USB playlist of songs he likes. In what order do the songs play, please? (I'd like to keep the unit unopened and new, which is why I'm asking instead of testing.) Thank you!
I believe it is the first file put on the drive. I don't have the radio to check. It is packed in storage. I was running out of room. I would put the more popular songs first and label the folders by number 1-### that way you have covered all your bases. You can even add numbers in front of the MP3 file to affect a sort order.

My farthest station on Shortwave is from Madagascar on 7445 kHz over 9000 miles.
channels window maybe unnecessary. ask them to redesign radios with rotary dial (less moving parts inside) with huge circular window instead like the one in old pioneer car stereo

That is a beautiful looking radio! I love the front mounted controls and analogue style tuner. Too bad the potentiometers seem of rather low quality. I don't need all the USB/MP3 gadgetry. If they make one without it I'd probably be tempted to get one but the quality seems dubious. Good review!

@todderbert: Sir, can you kindly re-confirm if the 3.5mm jack is Stereo or Mono? In one user review I read online it was mentioned it is Stereo so I'm confused.

I would take the 306 all day long.
Kajal Mukherji - Go for Sony which uses 3 v input. Don't you find too many chirping sound and noise in this, like most IC sets that uses more than 3 v input? Or buy Panasonic 2400D which is a digital set.

anyone knows why mine literally went silent mid listening into broadcast?
meaning it was playing but literally went silent before the voice on the radio could complete her word....
power light is still turned on.
just no sound, nothing after it went silent.
Normally low batteries are the culprit. If not that then a bad band or volume switch. Worse case the DSP chip failed.

This one was for the UK market, with it's plug. I'm guessing more of a world market like India. Not sure if they use the Crowns 220V outlet though.

Great radio, though no metre band markers on shortwave bands ( such as 75, 60, 49 31 25 19 16 13 metre bands ). MW or AM band looks linear or DSP scaled..

Bummer, this radio is way different than the 9700DX. Some like it. The build quality isn't to hot on this one.
Please tell me about this fm and am and also sw reception. Look for this.
FM is decent, Am and SW suffer some.. a bit more challenging to tune since it is a DSP radio.

Estimated around 100-125 hours on 2D cells. At low to medium volumes using the Radio.

@@todderbert after buying a toshiba the next morning i buy the tecsun r9700dx and now i much enjoy the tecsun for its strong picking of signal.. from hifi gears now im planning to add some good radio system and eyeing for s2000 to put in my collection.
I would have thought that all radios that use discrete components would be long gone to be replaced with a Texas Instruments Blackfin DSP processor and doing all processing using high school mathematics to do the donkey work and make for a slimmer and lighter weight radio.
I just ordered a copycat that looks almost exactly like this one,
But has bluetooth and sdcard support,
Has a rechargeable battery inside,
I'll have to wait and see how it is...

Hi! Could you please tell how does it perform on short wave? I am planning to buy this along with kaito sw antenna... There are very few affordable options available in india.
Also I wanted to know... How does it compare to xh data, kaito and other entry level sw radios ( like... if you were to give rating out of 10). Though their price is almost 3-4 times in India

@@tellmesomething2go In the States we call it AM, but everywhere else they call it MW. Medium Wave technically is the correct term to use. So yes you will be able to listen to your AM radio stations. I believe the range is 530 to 1600 kHz. If you have any stations past 1600AM then you may not hear them.
