  • How to do a full service on a Honda NSC 50 Vision 4 stroke and similar scooters / mopeds, see chapters below. The 110 cc version of the Honda Vision is to a large extent of the same design. Fluids are replaced in the same way and the fluid volumes and types are the same.

    Link to front brake pads replacement: • REPLACING FRONT BRAKE ...
    Link to rear wheel removal: • HOW TO REMOVE A SCOOTE...
    Link to fork oil and seal replacement: • HOW TO REPLACE A FORK ...
    Where not stated otherwise, 4 000 km service intervals apply for this scooter.
    This little engine has a timing chain and accordingly no timing belt that would need replacement. A timing chain should need no service as long as the engine oil is changed as recommended. (And the design as such is free of flaws.)
    Content:
    1:30 Which oil to use? Honda recommends motor cycle oil according to JASO T 903 class MB, 10W-30. All Honda dealers I've talked to use MA or MA2 10W-40 instead, still according to the same JASO standard. I choose to use a fully synthetic oil of highest quality and meeting a JASO T 903 MA2 standard.
    3:00 Transmission oil change. Since a motorcycle oil also lubricates the motorcycles transmission, I was advised to use the same oil in the transmission / final drive. Volume is around 0.15 liters. Keep bike level and fill until the filling hole floods.
    5:45 Brake fluid change / bleeding. I used a DOT 5.1 brake fluid that I use in most of my cars. It is stated to be mixable with DOT 3 or 4 that Honda recommends. Replace the oil every second year.
    15:00 Spark plug gap should be between 0.8 and 0.9 mm. If the gap is over 0.9 mm, tap the side electrode gently so the gap decreases. Tighten the plug by turning it only 1/8 of a turn after contact.
    A new plug for the NSC50, if being the recommended NGK CR7HSA-9, should be tightened 1 turn after contact, (1/2 turn for the NSC110 with NGK plug) then released and tightened as a used plug.
    The NSC110 is recommended to use NGK CPR8EA-9 for normal use. For long term high speed use the NSC110 is recommended to use NGK CPR9EA-9 instead.
    19:00 Valve clearance. Both valves should on a cold (below +35 deg C) engine be between 0.18 and 0.22 mm. If adjustment is needed, the nut tightening torque should be 10 Nm.
    The engine can be turned manually after either removing the fan cover or the belt cover.
    26:30 and 33:30 Air filter and crank case "ventilation" tube. The air filter only needs replacement every 16 000 km. It should not be cleaned using high pressure air. Larger dirt particles should only be blown away gently, never force anything to go through the filter.
    The crank case ventilation tube should be kept clean so one can see that there is no water collected in it. If water stands in the tube it should be removed as soon as possible.
    31:00 Variator and transmission belt cover. The belt nor the rear mounted clutch have fixed service interval mileage. The belt should be inspected and replaced if it shows sign of high wear or cracks, or if drive and clutch slip is not normal. If he drive belt is narrower than 18 mm, it should be replaced. Here is a video of how to do that (same link as above)
    • HOW TO REPLACE A SCOOT...
    34:45 Front / head light unit. This part covers the right hand brake fluid container.
    36:36 Front cover. This part covers the left hand brake fluid container and the 12 V battery.
    39:00 Rear view mirrors.
    39:30 Engine service cover.
    40:40 Saddle / seat unit and fuel tank cover.
    42:50 Luggage holder.
    43:20 Engine oil and oil filter / strainer.
    Replace engine oil yearly even if not reaching the 4000 km service interval limit.
    As can be seen this engine has no proper paper filter, only a metal strainer. Like that it is extra important not to neglect the oil service intervals.
    Oil volume. 0.8 liter when cleaning the "filter". 0.7 if only the oil is replaced.
    Oil plug tightening torque, 24 Nm. A new washer is recommended to be used.
    Oil filter cover tightening torque, 20 Nm.

      120 km/h :-) good speed for such a small engine. Here in Europe both the 50 and the 110 cc versions are sold (both with fuel injection). The 50cc version is fairly popular mainly for "kids" or others that for some reason doesn´t want to go through the effort of a higher level driving license. The 110cc is mainly used for low cost commuting, or as a camping bike (put in the trunk of a motor home).

      @@hoojiesgarage1542 Malossi does. they provide special kit which includes 85cc cilinder with piston (just wider, fits on perfectly), ECU which rises rpm limiter from 8k to 10k, wider exhaust pipe and Malossi multivar 2000. All this together makes this scooter to achive 79km/h measured with gps.

      Key locked in under the seat? That's a tricky one. Life without a spare key is risky. You need to break or destroy something to get in there. I would try to peel off the "saddle skin" by trying to get the small clamps at the inner edge to come loose. If you succeed with that, then try cutting off the foam in a way so that you can glue it back later. When you find the upper area of the metal "striker", grind that away. Like this you should be able to get the seat to unfold. And then you have quite a bit of work to rebuild it. Good luck!

I have changed engineoil every 4000km and I have used mobile 1 0w-40. I change sparkplug, transmissionoil, belt, brakefluid and cleaned the airfilter every 20 000km. To my understanding you can either use a gear oil for scooters, or a motorcycle oil (that also is used for both transmissions and engines). I would say that the most important is that there is oil at all back there :-) This is quite a low power machine and the load on the gear is modest, to say the least. Then it is also important that no dirt enters the filling hole when doing the service.

      Good evening. The transmission oil is by Honda recommended to be replaced every second year. But, since there will remain 0.2 liters of motorcycle engine oil when doing the yearly or 4000 km engine oil service, then I typically use that oil in the transmission. If the engine oil is for motorcycles with integrated transmission.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před 2 lety

      Hi
      A high quality 4 stroke motorcycle engine and transmission oil was used in the transmission. There are special small "tubes" of scooter transmission oils for sale at various shops. They are handy to use since they have a pointed end that easily enters the small M6 filling hole.
      But, as I talked to a Honda-dealer they said that I could just as well use the 0,15 - 0,2 liters of the engine oil that will remain after having replaced the oil in the NSC50 engine. Since that oil is for motorcycle transmissions too, they said it was perfectly fine to do so. Since I have a suitable little pump that easily enters the hole, I decided to follow their advice.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před 2 lety

      Holá Miguel. Typically motorcycle engine oil is also a transmission oil, since motorcycle engines and transmissions uaually share the same oil. My local Honda dealer advised me that the 0,2 liters of oil that will remain after the engine has been filled up, can be used in the transmission. At least if a high quality motorcycle engine oil is used of the grade that is recommended.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před 2 lety

      The MA, MA1, MA2 and MB classes relates to wet clutches and the friction they need. This is irrelevant for the NSC50 since it has a dry clutch (sitting in the rear part of the belt transmission). At least my local Honda dealer finds this irrelevant for the NSC50.

      ¿Cómo vas a poner el mismo aceite del motor a la caja de cambios? En el motor va un 5w30 normativa MB (baja viscosidad para embragues secos) No le pongas un MA, M1,M2 porque son para embragues mojados, no reducen la fricción como el MB y no ayudan al ahorro de combustible. Para la caja de cambios un 75w90. Saludos.

    • @hoojiesgarage1542
      @hoojiesgarage1542  Před 2 lety

      You are right, MB is typically recommended for motorcycle engines with dry clutches. However, none of the Honda dealers around here bother about that and they use some MA type oil in the scooters too, even the transmission.
