  • This is another example of a project where I let the wood take the lead and let it help me decide how to build it. I've found that the wood will help me out a lot if I only let go of my ideas and listen to its ideas.

    Of all the many woodworkers and artists I subscribe to, this is by far my favorite. If for no other reason, your music selection is superb. I practice my art and woodworking to relax and I don't get that from many of these sights. I love all kinds of music but having my head bashed in by metal is a bit much for me and I always come away from your videos feeling refreshed. Thanks for showing us your work, Scott.

    Another "love it". Great imagination. I'm pretty crazy about the red wood and really crazy about knots. Even as a kid I loved knotted wood. I love gnarly wood.

    Esta gen ial pero mejor hubiese estado si le colocaba alguna resina epoxi con algun tono de color que resaltara las caracteristicas de la madera utilizada.

    Love it! What finish do you put on the front? It's nice to see triplets getting along so well.

    • @countrylifetales2700
      @countrylifetales2700 Před 6 lety +1

      I was wondering about the finish as well. Since it's not in the videos, I am wondering if Scott doesn't use one. Scott?

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  Před 6 lety +2

      There's no finish on the front. I've found that just about everything I use darkens up the wood too much (although I still like to use poly and stain on occasion). I wire wheeled the wood with a brass wire wheel to help clean it up and bring out the grain. I've also found that wire wheeling this type of wood seems to make it look good naturally. I don't want to say that the wire wheel puts a shine on the wood since that may not be true but it does seem to polish it up a bit and make it look much better than just sanding it would. Sanding seems to dull it down a bit more than wire wheeling but occasionally I'll sand in addition to wire wheeling depending on the circumstances and the look I'm going for.

      So Scott. Who has that artist eye that can pull all the best features out of some wood, nail it all together piece by piece (I know the nailing was Scott) and end up with perfect balance of aesthetically pleasing tree knots? Love your work! Whoever. Lol

    What is your secret finish you use on the backs of your pieces??

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  Před 6 lety

      It usually varies a bit. This one is a mix of different colors, mostly brown, of water based paint. I've found it nearly impossible to match the color (or colors) of the wood so I don't really try to do that on the majority of the pieces. Usually I just paint the plywood a slightly darker color than the wood.

    Das Ergebnis ist sicherlich sehr gut, der Film leider, meiner Meinung nach, in die Länge gezogen.

    This wall hanging is very manly, very bold, very strong...... you forgot the femininity for this sculpture.... do not forget our sisters they lie in ours hearts and minds........must appeal to them in a softer approach..... this is like a battle of knots, they are coming at you from all directions!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @scottoconnor
      @scottoconnor  Před 5 lety

      Well, I didn't intentionally make it to be manly, bold and strong. I just let the knots fall where they seemed to worked best so this is the way it came out. I don't really think about masculinity or femininity when I'm making something but just try to go where the wood seems to lead me. The battle of the knots could be representative of the battle in my mind at the time :)
