- I didn't find the perfect center piece to begin with so I ended up building one and making a frame to match. I really enjoyed doing this project, there's really nothing that I like to do more than cut wood and there was a lot of wood to cut on this one.

wish i could complete my tools and materials so i can make more arts like these..
Class piece,sean from Ireland
Thanks!
Scott is in LOVE with knots in the wood ... this is a Picasso or Dali because the knots are like the eyes in their work.......Great work Sir Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's amazing how pretty nasty wood is when you give it a sanding bath.
For sure👍
Brilliant! You're building quite a crew around you, hope they are well paid. Always enjoy watching you at work. Thanks Scott
Most of the crew are still interns but yes, they're well paid in coffee and lunch....and snacks.
That's baddass bro
Thanks!
Great Collage of wood pieces and of the knots!!!! Very modern art wood wall sculpture!!!!!!!!!! A Little bigger piece could become coffee table piece if you could formulate a way to place legs on the master piece then cover the top with acrylic resins so it could flat....Sir Scott, Fantastic piece could easily see this in an office setting on the wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're right, it is perfect for an office setting. It's been hanging on my office wall ever since shortly after I made it and it's definitely one of my favorites to look at every day :)
love this, hate the music but you are a true craftsman. Thank you for sharing.
This piece is very nice. My partner says it's Beautiful.
nice art piece.
Thanks so much 😀
Awesome!!! You done it again!!! Beautiful pice of art!!! Congrats!!!
Say Hi !!! To me myself and I !!!
Thank you very much :)
You’re very fortunate to have such beautiful wood. Here in Kentucky we have a lot of oak fence boards from the horse farms but they shy away from the knots. As well as a lot of old tobacco barns but there again not that many knots in the wood. Love your work and this piece in particular. Congratulations on your new crewmembers.
Yes, I guess I really like wood with knots. Sometimes I'll cut up an entire board just to get the knots out of it. I'm sure you still have some great old wood in Kentucky even though it doesn't have a lot of knots. I'm sure it still has lots of other great characteristics. I really like old barn wood and you're lucky to have a lot there. I haven't run into too much old barn wood around here where I live in southern cal although I try to get it when I can.
I thought you had gone to far on this one at one point but I was proved wrong. Beautiful peice
Yes, as I was adding the accent pieces I had to ask myself, at what point do I stop? If I didn't add enough then the piece wouldn't work the way I wanted it to but adding too many would take away from it. At one point I also asked myself if I had gone too far, but in the end it all worked out ok.
Very nice piece Scott!! In the middle of the video I was scratching my head and thinking where is he going with this. It all came together in the end result. The color and grain pattern work well together.
Thanks John - I have to admit there was a point in the middle of building it where I was scratching my head too. The center piece wasn't finished and I wasn't sure if I could finish it in a way the would make the piece work the way that I wanted it to. I had to really think about it and find just the right accent pieces to make it work. Luckily it all came together in the end.
beautiful art work Scott, nice video. like
Thanks Juan :)
good..good...best!!!
Beautiful piece Scott....I can see with all that work why you added more helpers!
Thanks Mom. Yes, I had to add a couple of guys but its not always easy working with the crew. We sent Yourstruly out to get lunch the other day and he didn't show back up until 2 hours later. Come to find out he was napping on the job. When he finally did show back up he only brought 2 sandwiches and there are 5 of us. He said he got hungry on the way back and ate the other 3. You may need to have a talk with him next time you see him :) I don't want him to lose his job.
hahaha great I think this is a story that happened not long ago with family, and I'm sure your mom remembers...
Good Job Scott
Thanks Bill :)
Wow. That was clever. Another great piece. And you don't have to answer each message. Just know that I'm gonna watch all your videos and will probably say something about them. You're a stand out artist and should be recognized as such. Already subscribed some time back along the way.
I don't think I've ever gotten so many great messages in one day before. I won't answer all of them but I appreciate them all :) You may hold the record for watching more of my videos in one day than any one else. I put a lot of work into these projects and videos so I really appreciate it when someone takes the time to watch and comment.
Composé IN TEMPO de Marche, sans dire aucun mot, le TABLEAU SOCIAL, bien lié par des nombreux noeuds de communication, ouvre enfin LA BOUCHE, dans la PIÈCE MAÎTRESSE...Et encore, L'UNIVERS ENTIER entrera et sortira par ce FILTRE CÉRÉBRAL l'Intersection Centrale qui donne vers Les Quatre Coins du Monde... { ...pleine de reconnaissance pour le voyage mental, Ina, Roumanie }
Je suis peut-être un artiste du bois, mais vous êtes un artiste de mots. Très bien écrit comme d'habitude :)
Very nice 👍🏼
Thanks :)
Awesome art piece. Loved all the natural knots and warts. So beautiful. What finishing do you apply or you leave the wood in the natural state. Thanks for sharing and keep up with your passion. From the tiny island of Singapore.
Thanks :) This one is all natural with no finish. I've found that applying finishes usually darkens up the wood and with this piece I like it just the way it is so I didn't want to darken up the wood or change the color at all.
Interesting evolution. The wire-wheel was a great tool. Brass or steel?
I usually use the brass wire wheels.
Nice work!! Please tell me how you treated the inicial wood? how to get that aged surface, all the grain and Knots with such texture? Thanks
This wood had ground contact for many years before I got it so I didn't have to treat it. All I did was take my 6 inch wire wheel and remove the dirt and soft material on the surface. By removing the soft material I was able to bring out the texture. The wire wheel helps clean the wood and gives the grain and knots a really nice look.
If i have those pieces I be making nice front door from those wood
I think that's the most complicated piece so far. I wondered if you make a sketch on paper first, or do you visualize it inside your head? I understand the bit about a project evolving as you are working on it, but where does the first flash of inspiration come from, and how do you begin to construct it? Thank you for your great vids, really enjoy them.
With a piece like this I think it would be almost impossible to build it from a sketch. I let the wood help design the piece. Usually I find a piece of wood that becomes the center piece first and then build around that. In this case I didn't find a center piece so I built one out of two pieces and then added accent pieces to make it more interesting. My general rule for adding accent pieces is to cut out the less interesting parts of the wood and make it more interesting with the accents. The inspiration comes from loving the wood and wanting to bring out the best of it and to show the woods true beauty and potential so that hopefully others can appreciate it as much as I do. I usually find a lot of happiness in just cutting wood and fitting it together so I stay very much in the moment as I'm working. I generally don't really try to worry about or visualize the end result, just let it evolve naturally and enjoy the process. In this case I was a little bit worried at one point about the center piece coming together the way that I wanted it to, but by adding the accents I was able to work it out in the end.
Thank you, that's a very useful reply. I try to find the same connection with the fabric I use in my art, but sometimes it evades me. I need to love my materials more and form a spiritual bond with them. ilona
Great Piece Scott... do you Sandblast your wood? your work is honest and open to flow... nice job.
Thanks....and to answer your question, no, I don't sandblast. I use a 6 inch wire wheel on my grinder and that cleans the wood up really good.
Oh, and why someone would give you a thumbs down is beyond me.
