Many ppl only stay together for tax reasons, or fear of change, or to keep up an image in the community , or they think kids can't handle divorce , etc. It does not mean they were in love . Judy wears her jewelry to bed in this early sitcom, and did the same in As Time Goes By. Always was more comfortable taking it off.
