Documentary telling the story of dancer Rudolf Nureyev's rise to fame in the years before he defected from communist Russia and began his long stage partnership with the British ballerina, Margot Fonteyn.
Through the vivid memories of those who knew him best, this psychological portrait tracks the origins of his rebellious character, his complex personal relationships and his artistic genius. It features previously unseen footage of his early triumphs in Leningrad, filmed by a German teenager with whom he fell in love, and who encouraged him to leave his homeland.

Rudolf Nureyev time was well before I was born, but the beauty of his art transcends time. I only wish he was alive and I could watch his ballet live. Thanks so much for sharing these magnificent videos of his life and his art.

The greatest dancer defecting in Paris--it sounds like an opera by Puccini. Loved this guy ever since I was little budding gay boy in Alabama in the 60's--a hero.

This starts off: "Teja (Kremke) was known for his female conquests and his dancing partner remembers him boasting about them". But he was a sex fiend and literally seduced Rudolf (quite innocent next to Teja) before he went on to marry a child bride from Indonesia.
