  • Through the testimony of those who were closest to Nureyev, "Dancing Through Darkness" tells the compelling and hitherto untold story of the last years of one of the most important artistic figures of the twentieth century. Above all. it shows one man's struggle to transcend the confines of mortality, a man who literally tried to cheat death by doing what he loved most: dancing.
Especially for all Nureyev admirers. Enjoy!

I almost wept at 8:43. Ballet is so ephemeral, and balletic genius even more so. How could ANYONE expect him to jump as high as he had at 25 or even 30? And AIDS on top of it. One can understand the children's remarks, but oh, after he died, I'll bet that some at the Vaganova wept in shame.

He is trying so hard, even if he gets winded. It's heartbreaking really.

Ive watched all through this....Paris.... etc but the whole piece leaves out the pinnacle of his excellence - meeting and partnering with Margot Fonteyn. Have i missed something?

I am grateful for such a wonderful, moving series. One note, though: it would be great to have subtitles when Russian is being spoken ...

The music was terribly inappropriate to be a narrative. One can't just pour a sickly sweet musical syrup over the entire documentary whether or not people are dancing or speaking or laughing or crying and expect it to be sensitive to the content.
Too bad a sensitive musician wasn't asked to provide the
