Of course he thought it was a valuable card. His mom knew it was fake. The sales person I always deal with was very kind to him. The boy was about 8 years old at the time. The mom watched as the Sales person explain how to recognize good cards and bad card. The kid explained what he wanted in a card and why he wanted the Charzard. Of course he had several and helped the kid pick out a reasonably priced one out. The kid and his mom have been back several times.
I feel like these fake cards are like super widespread here in germany. And it's mostly parents getting them on flea markets and such trying to give their kids a cool looking card. (there are a lot of sketchy sellers with fake booster boxes and stuff here) But since both the parents and the children don't know that they are fake I have started to see them being sold on ebay for these prices aswell.

I just want to point out there are people who actively collect bootlegs (sometimes fake marvel/star wars other memorabilia) and sometimes the bootlegs command a higher price than regular items. I think there is a high chance this person has no idea about pokemon and thinks the novelty is unique, without knowing how frowned upon these terrible fakes are. I am sure he got a lot of feedback about it and doesn't see the problem still because he doesn't get it or he is just an a-hole. And to get the price he probably just searched on ebay with the name + gold lowest for sale.
buying them with full knowledge on it to resell is yea super evil, but people are just super ignorant as well. Whats crazy is I have seen at least 3 times parents buy those fake gold cards/super shiny cards from amazon (one spent a pack of 20-ish for 25$, huge markup). When I told one of them its a scam to the max, they didnt know or care and just happy their kids opened it up smiling and to not tell the kids its fake. Some just dont know the pokecard market and dont really care. I just try to give benefit of the doubt, because like you mentioned if selling it on purpose full knowing in a card show of all places, its pretty wild and a lose faith in humanity moment.
