I can CONFIRM, gamestop employees are generally overworked and having cards out puts an extra hour of the day to time they wont have. I remember for the first 2 years of ps5 being out, they would get 10-20 calls about if the ps5 was in stock the first couple hours they are open. I didnt work there but people would ask about preorders nonstop for figures, cards and games, and parents would ask about games/systems which they have very little knowledge about. Delivery for stock would come early afternoon so even if the store is empty they are still fielding calls and putting things on shelves/labeling/working on tradeins.
This is going to be an issue. LGS's are going to have to secure their display slab product a lot more. As a former GameStop employee, we used to get shady people coming in to trade in stolen reset smartphones and tablets years ago for cash. The process wasn't even hard. This move is not going to be a positive one for the hobby.
Sweet, might as well also sign up for their new credit card and get 4% back on fake slabs. I can't wait to get a PSA 10 that's 2x the normal eBay price but hey it's 4% back BABY!
We have to keep in mind they are in the business of making money, plain and simple. On the other hand, we always have the option to sell them or not. Ultimately customers/sellers have the last call on whether they want to sell their product there or not. I dont see this business model working for them in the long run.
I feel like this is going to push ppl to steal graded cards whenever they see an opportunity & sell them at GameStop smh idk why my mind goes so far but smh I’m about to post up outside my local GameStop lmao
Oh yeah. I was talking to the GM of the three stores in my area. According to him, they've already been taking it to pound town on fake graded cards. He told me this isn't coming to our area, at least, not anytime soon. Mostly online and a very select few trial run stores. But yeah, he said it's already failing pretty hard. Again, just what I was told. Take it or leave it.
You’re telling me I can get PSA 8 or Higher Marnies and save $5 on a pack? This is gunna be so dumb and it will suck when I see investor bros/gals in GameStops buying out cards to pump and dump.
Worked at GameStop for 5 years back in the day with merge the of EB Games! That place is Pure Evil I swear GI subscription and reservations quota! Don’t miss it one bit lol, great content as always!❤
If anyone has ever purchased single/graded/holo/bulk cards from a Japanese secondhand card store, you'll understand how large an operation they currently have. It's funny that a company like Gamestop thinks they can step up to the plate.
I wonder what gamestop terms and conditions are if they are willing to risk this. Presumably there will be a whole bunch of clauses exonerating them and/or forced arbitration to protect themselves from lawsuits. That would be the real meat and potatoes as far as this topic goes.
I almost want to see it happen. There’s no way they are paying attention to the market daily , even weekly. There’s going to be some good hunting for those who pay attention. I’m up for getting a deal on gamestops back.
Circa 2010 got a brand new factory 360 from microsoft over the whole red ring of death situation, brought it to game stop and they offered 40$ literally new in box.
Problem is gamestop is going to pull people in with exclusive stuff that an LGS won't be able to offer like promos "Spend $100 and get this gamestop exclusive Charizard" That's what I see coming
As an ex GameStop employee from the Wii, 360, PS3 era. I hope those in the test region make this unsuccessful. The amount of work an employee today has to do on top of the crappy average customers they get daily this will be a huge headache for all. GS corporate continues to amaze me and be so out of touch. Also, the vastly different experience a customer can get from store to store in the same region is wild.
I saw this the day before yesterday and laughed my ass off. I said they should lean into cards a couple years ago and think their stock is bouta BOOM! But of course I thought about the game trade in memes and couldn't wait to see your vid
How else better to grade a card than to see them inspect it in person! Just bring your Moonbreon right up to the counter so a 27 year old can pull it out of the sleeve without gloves, to say it's only a 8.5, but he'll buy it off you for the price of a 9 if it's a "Trade in"
i hope it brings new casual ppl into the hobby, but i cant find many regular ppl wanting to buy graded slabs, i also cant imagine anyone selling to gamestop actual good/loved cards, i imagine its all going to be "junk slabs" that you would find on any youtube mystery box
@@OpossumBud yeah I can’t see this as anything but a negative 😭 I also can’t see it lasting very long (maybe the singles bulk will stay but slabs will go)
The only thing that can be good about this is for the places like my town that don’t have a single LGS to go to. I would have to hop on a plane and fly for two hours to get to my closest one.
One of my local Gamestops already has been doing Play and Trade. I've seen the signs for months that they were going down this road of trying to be an LCS* *yes not a real LCS
Dude the cards will be sent from the store to a Gamestop new division on consignment to authenticate them. There is zero chances the local employees will be doing the checking for authenticity. Then the cards will be sold online. They care counting on the people once their cards are gone and mailed to not care too much about losing 25% when they get lowballed.
I kid you not, the last thing I ever bought from a brick and mortar Gamestop store before they went out of business was an anime wallet. Not even a video game! A freaking wallet! LOL
What I find curious is why go this 2nd-hand market route? Gamestop is probably already getting distribution-level prices for Pokemon products. The better move would be for them to start opening the product themselves and create a deal with PSA to get the cards graded themselves. Surely, that introduces way less risk than going the route of buying slabbed cards on the secondary market. Either way, this move could have a lot of implications on prices and buyouts given the large buying power that Gamestop has. It'll be interesting where things head from here.
If gamestop starts buying out tcg player inventory, then I'm done I think. As a player who enjoys being able to get most singled cheaply, I'm not going to gamestop to get what I need to play the actual game.
Joke all you want but I saved a ton of money on the retro Pokémon games I didn’t have with that discount. Only reason I got the membership in the first place.
@@OpossumBud my least favorite part about working retail was doing inventory in the morning before the store opened and then the register the first 2 hours the store was opened, when really no one would come in unless they were running in to grab like one thing real quick, and management was questioning why I wasn’t getting more people to sign up with email. I was like, they are either saying no thanks or they already got one registered, what do you want me to do, put in fake emails?

Yeah this is hilarious theft is going to go up so high. If this happens PSA has to put some big messages out there to let people know to deactivate cert or something if it's stolen.
