Yeah a lot of people thinking that’s how they’ll go about this, I’m guessing they’ll do like 40-50% market probably ? 😂
@orionsires it's a hit or miss. Some of their "values" are low but I see a lot of 70-90% values.
They seem to be going off a internal PSA site that determines the price. And my guess if their system gets a surge of 1 type of care that may start to offer less.
Supply and demand. But overall they are a solid option
It would be cool to see Gamestop turn into a place for gamers, instead of a little corner store
I feel like that was always the plan but just stayed a retail space
For cracking Psa slabs I highly recommend cracking off the edges the entire way around the slab. I use pliers and basically crack off all the edges and at the end the top part just comes right off.
If you pull the top slab off like in this you risk the top part cracking and then snapping back and damaging the card.
Also I do everything in a gallon plastic ziplock bag, so the plastic particles don’t fly everywhere. Those things can get in your lungs as well.

Also use a butter knife instead of a screwdriver.
It slides in a lot more giving you more leverage and it’s more wide so when you twist it it puts more pressure to make the slab pop off.
Use tin snips instead of pliers. They cut the corners way more so it makes it way easier.
@@KingLugia2022 the way I do it I don’t even need to use a knife or screwdriver really. The top part just comes right off.

We’ll know for sure when I get the card back, I wasn’t sure if there was a scratch on it before I cracked it or after I’m pretty confident it will come back the same grade 🤷🏻♀️
It’s not so much quality control standards at all.
The same thing happens with coins.
It’s because every grader is different where what is barely a 9 for one is an 8 to another.
So maybe we can get a 10?! 😂😎
I mean if anything it’ll bring more attention to pokemon and graded cards. Make it more mainstream and potentially bring in new customers

Yeah man no need to push the screw driver down the slab like that towards the card. Just use it to rotate the top end until you can use your hands to slowly pry open the welded edges until you can either pop it open or tilt it so the card safely falls out.
Oh man, I've cracked a ton of slabs, and yeah, you wanna cut both top corners before prying with the screwdrive so that it doesn't crack like that

What I like about the GameStop decision is it tells me how strong the Pokemon hobby is. GameStop sees growth in Pokemon!

My gut feeling is they'll low ball you on cash, making the store credit the option you choose....... Which is obviously their business model. My crystal ball is telling me that they'll rely on impulse buys and not have good prices if you're a retail customer.

Good view, few thoughts:
1) You mentioned how they are going to buying cards and flipping them. What if they are actually the middle party to allow cards to be traded between people and they get a cut of it. So basically they would be in charge of listing the item on their website and facilitating the whole interaction, and then the buyer will get a cut? What do you think about that idea? Actually you did address this in the later part of the video when you mentioned partnering with Ebay.
2) Buying games online for convenience over going to a physical store. So, really what you want to see is GameStop to be competive in in this sector and create an experience on-par if not better than the other big online retailers like Amazon. If you have trade-in values for things you dropped off at a physical store and you can shop online at a later date, that might bridge the gap, no?
Yeah great points I think the card trade ins might well translate into other sales I don’t think anyone wants to see GameStop completely gone it’s a part of all of our childhoods too and I do take that into account as well. Blockbuster was falling behind but we still miss it. 🤷🏻♀️
At one point they tried this with vintage video games cartridges, they tried implementing their own business model around it as opposed to conforming to the market. I dont really see old cartridges there any more, I imagine it will be similar.
Theyre only selling PSA slabs not higher than $500... so idk.
Ahh that 500$ cap is news to me, that was another question I had whether it would be for higher end stuff possibly but they couldn’t afford to do that even if they wanted to with their overhead probably being high with employee payroll and rent. Probably an experiment more than anything but I personally would like to see it. If anything if you were there semi regularly you’d be around for people dropping off collections ? And buy directly from people who turn down their offers. 😂
If they are selling up to $500 cards, that probably fits (estimate) 80% of all cardsthat r people want to buy. So who knows, it might work out. Having said that, I don't think it can even get to that point because nobody is going to want to sell their cards for 30% of their value or whatever ridiculous price Gamestop offers to buy them for.

Of course they raised the price now … smh 25$ they are pushing it IMO… I stopped going because I just figured I can spend 25$ and get 9 packs from a booster box being 90$ a box now. Didn’t make much sense to continue with them. But I will say it’s more just I would end up spending money I didn’t need to every time I went in. 😂

Most wont let go of their stuff for less than 70-80% of market. This is gonna be tough for GS.
😂😭 yeah I think this isn’t going to be a huge positive but for people with no game stores around them who already go to GameStop for packs this is a smart move for GS

Don't ever open a slab shoving a screwdriver in like that. Just use your hands to slowly pry the left and right edges. 😬😭
Practice with bad slabs so if you goof up it's at least Practice

I did practice on two before this because there was no way I was doing it for the first time with no experience haha 🤣
I’m going to be brutally honest. That was the worst slab cracking I have ever seen. Lol maybe try on some 20$ slabs before the big ones. I guess I got lucky on all my cracks. Had me sweating when I saw the screw driver slip.
Haha it could have gone smoother but the cards back off to psa now 😂
Man that slab break had me stressing lol but it is tough the first few times you try it and you got unlucky with how it started cracking. GameStop will be interesting to watch but it would be nice if you can go there for sending cards to PSA. PSA submissions have annoyed me recently because the cards sit in “Research and ID” for a month and then they finally move it into grading and so on.
Really depends what tier you’re using for higher end cards I’m willing to expedite things but for bulk subs I imagine it takes forever and that’s stressful I’m not the most patient either so I get it 😂

GameStop is disgusting with trade in values and I’d rather support a local card shop tbh or just eBay auctions. Though while I’m here I do have a question for you, I recently got back my Beckett Giratina Vstar GG and it came back 7.5 centering but 9.5 the rest, is it worth a regrade in PSA? The centering looks nice on front just a bit off on back
Yeah GameStop doesn’t have a great reputation already as it is… agreed. But I say always go with psa man. I know psa has their issues and messes up cards but IMO the design and colors the red label do it for me. Slab wise they suck but the aesthetic for me is psa. 😎

Dude I had so much regret doing it too… the cost of the regrade was 65$ with shipping…. Raising my cost of the card by nearly 10% just because I’m OCD … hate myself today haha. I don’t know why but finding Nidoking in a 10 seems impossible. That’s what my original plan was but I guess I just got tired of waiting to find the perfect card and decided I was happy with mine but had to get the dirt off 😂🤷🏻♀️ I won’t lie, I had a beer with my neighbor and I think it made my impulsive

It is harder than people make it seem. So tired of hearing people talk about “oh I’ll just crack and regrade” but I will say, had I had more time, peace and quiet and maybe some other tools it could be a bit more streamlined. I can’t believe I almost destroyed the Nidoking either. I was extremely lucky and that’s all. In the future I will take my time if I do this again and get more tools.. but it can be done. I wanted to crack my rayquaza but people say Beckett is much tougher to crack so for me that’s a no go right there. 😂

I took a lease on a store front to open my own Pokemon and Used Game store last week. This news by Gamestop makes me further think my choice was smart. Obviously they see the same market potential I did.
Could be a good and bad time to open a shop, you’ll find out soon enough. Seems to me like corporate franchise is seeing the money to be made off buying just like the vendors do at 60% or less.. either way I wish your business the best and would love to hear how it goes and learn from your perspective as a shop owner! 😎🙏🏼
