      I installed a 750 watt unit from Temro on my 4-53T and it works great. It's the 3rd winter coming and used daily with no issues.:)

    Good morning, what are things to consider if I remove the turbo from my 353t and use a natural blower without turbo?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před rokem +1

      It won't work without the turbo. Even if you install a natural blower, there's not enough boost. The results will be low power, high egt's and a lot of black smoke. Need the turbo for the engine to run right.:)

    Hi , Would a 353 be a good choice to swap into a 1/2 ton pickup truck ?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před rokem +1

      Yes, would make a great swap. I would get one with a turbo as the N model are only around 100-110 HP where as the T model is 125-135 HP. P.S. Thanks for watching.:)

    Is it true, that to prevent oil leaks, that every bolt needs a copper washer under it? subbed ;)

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +2

      There are a lot of bolts that require a copper washer. If you don't they will leak.:)

    Good day, my 353t giving alot of black smoke. We replace the turbo because the first unit shaft has a lot of play but the defect continues. The injectors were replaced 2-3 weeks prior to this black smoke. Its a blower and turbo arrangement. Do you have any suggestion of a next check i can do?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety

      Check the air filter is not plugged and intake is clear, emergency flap(if installed is open). Check for boost leaks, (also blower function), exhaust leaks at manifold and turbo, confirm the injectors are spraying correctly and they are the correct delivery size. Also new turbo is ok and both compressor and turbine blades are good. If still emitting black smoke, then check compression is ok. That should lead into the corrective path.:) Thanks for watching.

      Good evening, made the checks you recommended. Remove the blower for inspection and found heavy oil residue in the engine cavity where the blower is attached. Next thing we notice is that no air pressure at the test point down stream the turbocharger (no boost pressure).

    Won't be long now. I'm at the same point on mine. Which injectors would you recommend for use in this engine? 4-53 non-turbo going in a Terex loader. It had some M45's in it but Maybe I should go a little higher? I'm still enjoying all your videos. Keep reviewing the ones on your channel. Most helpful anywhere on these Detroits.

      Thanks, M45’s are nice injectors, this engine had N 45’s before and now going with 5A60 from my 4-53T. I’m looking for about 130 HP smoke free,

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +1

      Did you go with 21:1 kits? If so you might get away with larger like N50’s. I’d have to check the field handbook and see what it says.:)

    • @Shipfixer
      @Shipfixer Před 3 lety

      @@detroitgarage9430 Yes. 53 N 21:1 020 Oversize. Don't mean to trouble you too much. Thanks.

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +1

      @@Shipfixer No problem, the field handbook shows the largest injector as an N50@ 136 HP @2800. Not to say you can't go to an N55-60, but that might just make smoke. Hard to say without trying it. If it's not worked hard all the time, the larger injectors can lead to more wet stacking as well.

      @@detroitgarage9430 Kind thanks for looking it up for me. I agree totally. I might just stick with the old M(military?)45's for now. They seem to be in fine shape. Maybe try the N55 on the next overhaul. We obtained several of these 4-53's at a sale. I do believe they were military surplus. We grabbed them up instantly. You might be depressed if I told you how cheap. They're becoming harder to get these days as you well know. And does the "M" on the injectors mean military?

    Hey which tool do I need to set the injectors on a 353 with n40 injectors is it 1.460?
