    As an old DD buff myself, it sounds great! They are really cool to hear them on some of the old tractors pulling at antique & classic tractor pulls. For those asking about turbos, they had a gear driven blower, and later silver series had turbos added. I have seen one in a Chevy 2500 pickup in Pa.

      @@detroitgarage9430 That will be a happy compressor. It's truly a beastie looking machine. After following you on your rebuilds, without any deviation, I touched off my 4-53 tonight. I was frankly shocked when it came alive after about only 5 revolutions! What blissful music! You know what I mean. I have a new 24v starter and it spun up so fast that the motor didn't know if it was running or not! Thank you again ever so much for your guidance and taking time to answer my questions. I still have three more to rebuild. Now I have much more confidence that if I do them the same way, as you have, they will be just fine. In my book, you are the Detroit Guru!

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +3

      Lol, this was an industrial 353 that ran a belt pulley. The blue smoke is because the engine is still very cold. It will stop this once the engine is put under a load and worked. The revs should be kept under 1000 rpm for 10 minutes to check for leaks etc. Now that that has been completed it has to be worked hard at 80-90% load. I'll have it idling at about 1000 or so and full load at 2100.

Also need a blank cover for where the thermostat housing goes on the back of the head, and that cover to the lower left of the cam and balance shaft. @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety

      Thanks.:) Yes, you can pull the airbox cover off and have a look and see if there is any or how much water. You could also have a look at the blower and confirm that's not seized, if it's loose there will be some back lash. What I've done in the past is pull the injectors and fill the cylinders up with acetone and oil mix. The pull the starter and bar over engine with a pry bar. If the engine isn't stuck too bad this will work, if not it's overhaul time.:)

The M113 has the 6V53T in them and many are now in Ukraine.:) As for the Toyota Hilix, a 353T could fit with some fab work. The 2-stroke gas cars were made in the 60's.

      @user-eq4en8dr5t Před rokem +1

      @@detroitgarage9430 Good morning for you!
      Glory to Ukrainian heroes!!!
      I didn’t even think that the M113 had a two-stroke diesel engine. Many thanks to you (the people of the USA) and all NATO countries for helping Ukraine! Your equipment saves our soldiers' lives!
      As a mechanic of off-road vehicles, I really like the (not SUV) Subaru Leon, a full-fledged part-time all-wheel drive with a transfer case, there is a downshift, but the most interesting thing is that it has part-time on the contrary)) permanent front-wheel drive, rear-mounted manually. Cool car.
      It would still have to install a two-stroke diesel engine with a volume of 2.5 liters in general, it would have turned out to be an ideal car.
      Perfect for me of course :)
      In general, I really want to someday assemble my detonation engine with a pressure in the cylinder of 60-70 bar. it has an estimated efficiency should be around 60% and very economical...))
      The main thing is that the greater the pressure in the cylinder during the explosion, the longer the force driving the piston down is retained, right?!)) Well, the crankshaft axis must also be shifted away from the central axis of the cylinders! Under this condition, when the piston is at the top point and an explosion occurs, the force of the explosion will immediately be directed directly to cranking the crankshaft ....
      (I always really didn’t like that in an internal combustion engine an explosion occurs at a very unfavorable moment (when the connecting rod is perpendicular to the crankshaft axis), while most of the explosion force turns not into rotation but into impact, which is not very good ....
      Offsetting the crankshaft axis to the side will fix this problem very well.
      In short, the internal combustion engine is a very unfinished thing, you can talk about it for a very long time ...)))
