    A smooth operating clutch is key to great clutch modulation, and proper clutch cable maintenance is key to both a smooth operating dirt bike clutch and long clutch cable life. As demonstrated within the video, cleaning a dirt bike clutch cable is a fairly straightforward process and doesn't involve much hassle. You can find tools to clean and lubricate dirt bike clutch cables on the BikeBandit.com website at www.bikebandit.com/motorcycle-...
    The chemicals needed to clean the clutch cable of a dirt bike are two part, requiring both solvent and lubricant. Both of these dirt bike chemicals can be found on our website at www.bikebandit.com/motorcycle-...
    Sometimes it's easier to just replace dirt bike cables and forgo the cleaning and lubrication labor. You can find OEM replacement clutch cables for dirt bikes at www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts?u...
    and aftermarket clutch cables at www.bikebandit.com/cables/cm/a...

    What is the difference between coin like adjuster at the clutch lever and the double nut adjuster at the end of the clutch cable. Ofcourse coin adjuster is used to leave a quater inch slack gap but I can able to get the same slack gap with the double nut screws too. Can't able to figure out the purpose of these two things. Does lubing the clutch cable makes it easier to press the clutch lever?

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 10 lety +1

      Hey Ryan,Congrats on the new machine Ryan. Anti-seize won't harm it, but when you have time, do your cable up right. It's easy and quick, and really makes a difference in both feel and control. Use a lube for cables too. They tend to attract less dust and dirt. Then go out and ride your new RM-Z!

    My clutch is really hard to pull and it fully engages and disengages in a very short range. Could that be my clutch cable or clutch springs?

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 8 lety +1

      +oHerroPrease
      Herro Herro!
      From what you've said, it's not your clutch springs. When those get fatigued, the pull would actually become easier. It could very well be your cable. Maybe it just needs to be lubed, or perhaps it's frayed inside the housing, and that could be causing it to snag up a bit where you can't see it? No way to tell from here, but replace the cable ($20?), readjust, and take it from there.

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 9 lety

      Joseph Nicholas Hey JN,Type in 59454 under our parts search, and you'll find the Bel-Ray Waterproof Grease. It comes in a handy little tub, and is great for everything on your bike that needs to be greased up: axles, pivot links, linkages, and the bearings like your steering head or wheel. I like to take the top of the tub, cut a 1.5"-2" hole in it, and put a brush through into the grease. That way the top stays closed, and you can wipe excess off the brush each time you remove it. Thanks for the question and for watching our videos. You did remember to subscribe, right? Enjoy the ride!

    i took the lever off lubed everything up and cleaned i put it back together and have a ton of play in the cable and it doesnt spring back. i tried everything accept opoening the case which im really not trying to do unless i have to. any help?

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 9 lety

      dustin sattarelle You shouldn't have to open up the case. Nowhere even close DS. You removed the lever from the perch up top at the handlebar? Did you also remove it down below on the arm too? You should be able to install the lever in the perch, then control the pull by tightening it down below. Then go back up top, and using the adjuster barrel, fine tune it.

    • @dustinsattarelle5783
      @dustinsattarelle5783 Před 9 lety

      i opened up the case anyway and it wasnt springing back because the cable unhooked in the case. its all good now. any suggestion tho of why when i turn my handle bar to the left the throttle cable pulls a little bit and revs it up. i mean i got it to where it barley does it anymore but still.

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 9 lety

      dustin sattarelle Glad you sorted out the cable return issue DS.On to the next question. It only happens when you turn left because the cable is essentially being turned and apply throttle. You might have to adjust your throttle tube as to not have that happen. That is potentially a very dangerous thing, so please address that before your next ride.

    can i use teflon PTFE spray to lube the cable with?

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 9 lety

      jonathan palmqvist Hey Jonathan,Using a PTFE lube won't hurt anything. The only downside to using PTFE is that you might have to apply it more often as it's a dry lube, and the cost is usually a bit higher than a traditional wet cable lube. Both don't attract dirt or dust so you should be good either way you decide to go. Thanks for the question and for watching our videos.

      Hey GC,
      Grease tends to be thick and a little heavy, plus it'll be hard to introduce into the cable housing. Not sure what you mean about auto lubricant?

      Are you thinking of engine oil?
      Here's the thing about cable lube...it's nice and thin, and most importantly is that is doesn't attract dust/dirt as much as most lubricants out there, which keeps your cables nice and smooth without all the grit that can become an abrasive internally.
      Hope this helps.

    I have a Chinese dirtbike and my clutch pull is really hard, it's not hydraulic, could it be my cable or just the fact that it's a Chinese machine

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 7 lety

      +stilwellMotovlogger It could be a couple of things. 1) make sure that the cable isnt kinked anywhere between from where the lever is or the case. 2) the cable needs to be lubed. 3) IF it's been like this all the time, they might not have a good leverage ratio for the lever. you may want to try something like a CR style. 4) they could have used very heavy clutch springs. good luck.

    Too much tension on the clutch cable can fry your clutch because there isn't any give in between the clutch and the transmission. That is what the slack is needed for, it helps the life of your clutch and bike.

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 9 lety

      birdylover100 Hey BL100,WD-40 is not a lube, it's a water dispersant, hence the name WD. Best to use a dedicated cable lube like Maxima MPPL or PJ1's cable lube. I like the Maxima as it's both a WD and a lube in one, and we actually have it one sale now too. Win-win! Avoid using chain lube as it gets tacky so it doesn't fling off your chain too easy. Thanks for watching our videos. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel, and enjoy the ride.

      BikeBandit.com will cleaning and lubing it fix the clutch being to hard to pull in?

    • @bikebandit
      @bikebandit  Před 9 lety

      birdylover100 No way to tell that from here BL100. It'll make the cable slide through it's housing easier. Also, take apart your clutch perch by removing the bolt. Remove the old grease, clean it with contact cleaner, re-grease it, and that'll help too. Start with the basic stuff that's considered routine maintenance, then continue the diagnosis. Depending on mileage, use, and a few other factors, you might have a bigger fix internally. No way to tell from here though. Spend a little quality time on your bike, and it just becomes more fun and enjoyable to ride. Hope this helps.
