I usta work in a rather large sawmill with 4 floors. Positional awareness was something I used many times in 22 years. Scenarios included weather, electrical & mechanical failures, fires, or explosions. A great practice, especially when in unfamiliar surroundings. When going in an enclosed area, take mental & visual cues …. Which will greatly help you plan an escape route.
Did the same route to the forward crew compartment back in the 1980s when the Kidd was still in the middle of the river. My scout troop went on board before the generator was turned on. We waited before for the power to be turned on before going below. We were very familiar with the layout of the Kidd. One say we went to the usual forward crew compartment before the power was turned on, took our time. We finally got to where we were going, we stopped and waited for the power to come on. Never did that again, but glad that we had the chance to do it.

Did that in 2016when we lost power there and I was in forward birthing.. Thanks to Mack ,Garrett and Mr Ken there are emergency battle lantern that come on now.
Yep. There were some back then, ... but not enough.
