Looks to me like the installation of those units were spot on ! Lots of room to work and a nice clean install...nothing looked sloppy at all. With those new parts the unit should continue to run a good amount of years more.
I think goodman gets a bad rep because they sell to anyone and their older furnaces had shit heat exchangers. Now a days they have 10 year warranties on heat exchangers.
I’m a technician in Louisiana, I wire my float switch in series with two wires coming from the condenser low voltage wires, so when it over flows, only the condenser will stop running and the blower inside the house will still run. It helps on a hot day, by keeping air circulating!
Those sticker are normally where that exhaust comes out now. That’s probably why they moved them. They probably used spray adhesive to put them where they put them.
Plus we have fossil fuel protesters blocking the refineries. Petrol stations are running out, locally weve been as high as £1.95 per litre or $9.50 a gallon
I bought a second vehicle so I wasn’t driving my pig of a Silverado as much. The Buick I bought is still costing me over $100 to fill. Luckily I am at least going further on a tank of fuel vs the truck. I always learn something from your videos thanks for the Friday morning entertainment
Nice video Ted. Thank you for sharing. I always enjoy watching them. Just a comment….you mentioned that the thermostat would cycle off and on a lot. I have ran into that also and sometimes I find that there is a draft coming out of the hole in the wall where the thermostat wires go to the thermostat. Not sure if that is the case here but just thought I would pass along my findings. I am sure you have ran into that also. Thanks again and I look forward to more videos.
Paper Sticker inside of Cabinet is a Test Run Sheet. It has the complete Model and Serial numbers. I saw it on your video when you looked at the beginning. Yes, the Manufactures Data Plate is not Supposed to be Removed unless Unit is being sent to the dump!!
My inducer on a trane was replaced a few months ago, sounded just like that. Then it would start and shut down but the blower kept running, that cooled down the house because it was in an overheat mode even tho the flame was on for 3 seconds. It was dirty valves in the gas thingy. Works great now.
I'm curious as to why the board needed to be replaced. Some of your comments, plus your temp readings, suggested a likely thermostat issue for lack of heat. I did enjoy the video though.
Yep, broke $100 filling up the service van several weeks ago here in Milwaukee area. Last week, Took it down to the fuel light being on, hit $110 then. Unfortunately, Prices have left me no choice but to bump up my trip charge by $10 :(
Those flush cuts might just be a pair of side cutters Ted. With the exchange and the gallon size difference here in Ontario we are paying $ 5.35 U.S. for a gallon. Only Goodman I like is one that is being replaced.👍👍🇨🇦
You don't get what you don't pay for, and Goodman is in the low-price tier. Sad that many of the once well-respected brands have joined the race to the bottom too now and aren't what they used to be.
$3.39 yesterday outside of San Antonio. Refined in Houston. Most of your gas comes from Houston or other refineries along the Gulf Coast such as Port Arthur, Texas or Lake Charles, Louisiana. Fed by Pipelines that take a while to get to South Carolina. Valero will be high since they get a lot of crude oil from Russia.
Those wires are long so you can slide blower out for heat xchanger inspection without disconnecting all those wires. Also you should back up the board with a finger while plugging in wires, flexing the board will crack the solder on the terminal connections causing future intermittent problens that will drive you crazy troubleshooting.
The inducer on my American Standard is really loud! No screeching or anything I guess it’s the bearings. Been like that for easy 8-10 years. Btw gas is 4.35 in the Chicago area. That’s down from 4.60 a month or so ago.
My Now Ex Inlaws lived in a Mobile Home that had an Oil Furnace on it and The Burner Pump was louder than that. It was a Beckett, but I guess the bearings or something was shot in it.
The guys who replaced my entire system recommended Goodman and according to them proper installation is the entire key to good performance but I already picked out RUUD/Rheem and also interestingly after they installed mine they started carrying RUUD/Rheem.
2 questions, why didn't you take a micro amp reading off flame rod? Many times over my 36 years I have had flame rod signals on the cusp of failing. Goodman furnaces drop out at .5 ma, like about 95% of all furnaces. If you actually take a reading, you can rule it as the problem or not the problem. Also, I saw that you replaced the circuit board, and I did not see you establish the reason for replacing it. As for the inducer, that I would of maybe changed, but would have given the customer the option to replace the furnace, based on it's age and it's a mid eff.
I worked in the HVAC trade for many years. The company that I worked for sold Goodman for awhile before quickly realizing their quality issues I replaced about 2 dozen circuit boards under warranty in a 2 year period among other things. I would cringe every time I saw one.
I think the sticker on that model was on lower right when installed vertical, so it would be on top almost above burners when installed horizontal. probably wise to have moved it where it wouldn't burn up "when" the unit breaks and dumps flames all over inside. 🤣🤣
Why does the placement of that sticker bother you so so much? I'd understand if it was outright missing or placed in a location where it wasn't readily visible but it was on the door panel itself so you can't miss it 🤔 Since the original sticker is unlegible is it possible that they just got a replacement for that same make and model and just placed it on there?
Goodman is known for having an 80% efficient furnace with a bad placement of their pressure switch hose port. It likes to clog up more often than others with sediment rust dust bugs all the time. Sometimes multiple times a year. so more than likely. It's an intermittent pressure switch problem and that port needs cleaned out possibly the inducer motor taken off and cleaned out of its debris Along with flame sensor cleaning and cap testing. Also Short cycling could be lack of airflow from lack of ductwork. Clogged air filter
If it was me., while I had out anyway, I would have dressed the flame sensor with a piece of sandpaper or emery cloth just cause...... Might have saved you a trip in the future. And you could've charged your customer a little more as preventative maintenance as something you normally do when you have the system apart like that...... just saying
Personally, I don't see a problem with the label being on the outside-almost every time I work on a furnace, I find myself wishing the manufacturers did it! I get tired of standing on my hands, trying to read the label.
LMAO tupertechs.. falls over laughing... not sure if you saw or caught how many of those flex ducts had pre-existing holes with sharpie circles around the hole with a large arrow and on some they wrote (TP(short for test point)) or Test
Whats the chance factory forgot to stick that sticker on and whoever installed the unit just stuck it on the outer side for the hell of it? Also what does twisting the tip of the nut driver do? Haven't had one in hand to see what it's workings are like.
Why he doesn't use a small battery driver baffles me but to each their own. The twisting of the nut driver is because he's using a mini 'slide driver'. They're very handy. Amazon it...

Fuel oil and jet fuel are essentially the same as diesel. When crude oil is refined, refineries get two gallons of gas for every gallon of diesel. Plus Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel takes extra refining. It does not help that almost everything is being shipped by trucks and jets versus rail these days because we want everything in two days.
OK - so, pray tell why you have such an opinion on that sticker being stuck to the outside of the unit ?? In any case aren't you a Trane Man ?? Your forensic nature kicks in looking for a sticky spot where your competitor may have unstuck it from - Bahahahaha - seriously does it really matter where that sticker is or was ?? by the look of the ones in the unit they are faded and breaking down so they all should be on the outside anyway. As usual a great video with lots information and dry wit. 73's
Little confused as to why u did the inducer and the board kinda just seems like u were throwing everything at it and seeing what sticks instead of diagnosing the actual issue if what you were there for was the thermostat not reading the proper temperature and you clearly see that there's a seven degree difference between the return air temperature and the thermostat temperature obviously it's just a bad thermostat if the amp draw on that inducer motor was still good that little noise it was making was perfectly fine those blades looked normal on that inducer wheel kind of seems like the only thing that actually needed was a new thermostat

They moved it due to a horizontal installation, it is where the exhaust is now normally.
