  • Get up close and personal with the brand new Axial Yeti! This is no unboxing video, this gets down into the nuts and bolts of what makes this truck tick. It's long and technical, so if you don't want details, don't watch this video!

    Harley Designs Hi Harley, so I guess I just answered one of my own questions, I just realized you talk about the motor mount and how you can turn the motor to have it actually move, so closer or farther away , so this will allow the ability to change the gears..... interesting indeed. I really am looking forward to in-depth video on the gear changes you make to change it to crawler mode ( please do a video just on the gearing, with all steps, I'm sure many of us would love to watch a 15 min video just on that LOL ) seriously. Thanks for your great channel Harley.

    Thank you Harley. It's really awesome to get such great info from someone very educated in this hobby and axial. My axial knowledge only goes as far as the scx10 I just love it. After this video I'm hoping that this transfer/tranny combo makes it to the scx line. It's one of the few lacking scale departments of the scx10. Thanks Harley.

    Best axial yeti review I've seen. Thank you! I just picked up a previously owned yeti, and this helped me identify parts I need to replace. I had no idea the bulkhead was from an exo so now I can find parts easily. Speaking of parts 8 years later their wasn't much support at my local hobby shop so I went online. Not much support there either! What happened in 8 years that not even axial has much support for this classic rock racer? Personally it's my favorite rc of all time! It has so much diversity! I've hammered on the rocks. Beat it up bashing dirt mounds. Thrashed on the street, and had some fun ripping sideways in the grass. Where can I find more support for this bad ass rc?! I can't even find a new Lexan Body for it 😭 it's no wonder I got a killer deal. $240 RTR with lots of upgrades, and extra parts!

    Thanks Josh! Great video! If you have the uncut version, I suspect there are others that would gladly watch it in its entirety. This video actually seems short as the YETI is not available to the general public yet and there are A LOT great improvements.
    BTW... I pre-ordered... cannot wait until next month. With any luck I'll receive while home on R&R. With YETI in hand the WREXO may be delayed... maybe the YETI will help me with the WREXO build or identify possible improvements.

    What weight of diff oil would you recommend into the front diff for crawling ?
    I want it to still be semi open for turning but 'locked' enough for crawling like Detroit Locker Differentials.

  • @baayne
    @baayne Před 10 lety

    I would suggest that instead of locking the front completely, that you try of very thick silicone oil first. Maybe a 300k-500k weight. Amazing looking truck, can't wait to get my hands on one! great video, I have been anticipating this one since your previous Yeti vid.

      baayne I already locked the front end using a solid one piece spool. I ran it with another yeti that had heavy fluid in Colorado at the G6 last weekend. Locked is definitely going to be my preference for a rig that will see a lot of rock.

    Would be nice if the servo used for shifting into low gear could also operate a remote front diff locker to lock the front for crawling, as what else would you want the low gear for.

    Great video thanks, I'm really considering getting the kit version. Would you say it would make a suitable basher for taking to skateparks? I understand skateparks are quite hard on rc's but that won't be where I'll be solely using it.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  Před 9 lety

      They are hard in trucks for sure. It will survive many things but some impacts are still going to have bad results. It's all going to come down to your driving.

    • @Team-Fraser
      @Team-Fraser Před 9 lety

      Harley Designs Ok cool, thanks for the info. Skateparks wouldn't be the only place I'd run the kit and I wouldn't class myself as a hard basher. Would a 5.5t 550 size motor and 2S lipo be enough power for it? I already a Savox 1256 which I might use. Just watched your kit vs rtr video, the kit is definitely the way for me to go.

    Great video!! It wasn't mentioned, but do you have any concerns about the front hinge pins threading directly into the chassis instead of a replaceable toe block? Seems like they could strip out the chassis in a crash and then it would be a headache to fix.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc

      They actually thread into nuts that slip into the chassis. I swapped out the plastic nuts with standard nylocks.

    Hi, I really enjoy this channel - I'm just starting a Yeti kit build, and I'm sucking up all the tips I can get. I see that helical gears also are available for the front diff - have you tried this? In your opinion, what would any pros/cons be with such a setup ?

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  Před 8 lety

      +zombiethon the helical cut gears are just indicative of the HD gear sets which the KIT already includes. Their shouldn't be a need to upgrade the gears of your kit.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  Před 8 lety

      +zombiethon sorry I forgot to address that the benefit of helical cut gears is an increased tooth contact area.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  Před 10 lety

      In my opinion, it blows the Twin Hammers away. I owned a TH for about a year and drove it less than I have already driven this car. I found very little enjoyment in driving or working on the TH.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc

      I don't think it will clear the skid plate in the wraith, specifically the front driveshaft. It would take a lot of work to make it function.

  • @HighEnergyRC
    @HighEnergyRC Před 10 lety

    Very good video Harley. I have pre-ordered the Yeti, but still no sign of it. As a newbie, will this be great out of the box ? I'm a little scared seeing all the things that you wish to change, or have changed already.... is the Yeti a great RC buggy if I do not upgrade any parts ? I'm going to be putting out about $500 I'm guessing with the taxes, so that's a lot of money to start off.. I hope it's fun out of the box.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  Před 10 lety +1

      High Energy RC It is a blast out of the box! But out of the box it is not made to go crawling and that is something I really personally enjoy. So the modifications I am making are to make it do exactly what I want to do, which is different than what Axial had planned for it to be exactly.
      There will be more upgrades available for this truck than most trucks on the market. Axial trucks have some of the craziest aftermarket support of any brand. All the way from small vendors to the big dogs.

    • @HighEnergyRC
      @HighEnergyRC Před 10 lety

      Harley Designs Hi Harley, oh good to hear ! I was getting a bit less excited, but I'm ok now. Anyway, good to know, well I can't wait to see what you will do in terms of upgrades. I'm watching your tear down video again. Thanks for your time Harley, I appreciate it. *Not many* channel owners actually reply to their subscribers, so thank you :-)

  • @HighEnergyRC
    @HighEnergyRC Před 10 lety

    Hi Harley, can you explain what that second servo is for ? I have no clue :-( Are you saying you can actually change the gearing from speed mode to crawler mode ? so by doing something on the radio, you can switch "speeds" ? ..... I didn't really understand what you meant. I thought the Axial kit for crawling was comprised of some different gears that you have to install ( replace ) and remove the original gears that come with it.

    • @HarleyDesignsInc
      @HarleyDesignsInc  Před 10 lety +1

      High Energy RC There will actually be a full new set of gears that go inside the transmission and the 2nd servo I showed will actuate the entire assembly. That will make more sense when that upgrade is available.

    • @HighEnergyRC
      @HighEnergyRC Před 10 lety

      Harley Designs Hi Harley, oh sounds interesting ! so the servo will somehow activate the new gears I'm guessing. Anyway, I hope you do a super in-depth video of the process. By the way, could you do a little 5 min video on how servos are different from one another, - the strengths, how one is stronger, or what makes them stronger or weaker. A very interesting subject and I have not found any great video of somebody explaining it. Anyway, thank you Harley !

    here is a tip (BTW I own two youtube channels with over 750,000 subs and edit videos for a living), we dont't want to see your face, just film exactly what you are talking about, for example do a first person view of the specific area of discussion, and then voice over it later during editing. Your videos will view much better that way. I have the Wraith and the Yeti and I would love to get more in depth with them so I welcome this video, but all I can see is your face, not the parts of the RC
