Unlike Peter Griffin, Homer has always been a lovable douche who's really bad at what he does, including parenting. But him being bad at it doesn't mean he doesn't try, or that he doesn't love his family. He's the man who was headbutted repeatedly by deers while protecting Bart, the one that decided to spend his money in a saxophone for Lisa instead of buying an Air Conditioner. The one who worked two jobs at the same time so her daughter could have her wanted pony. And well, there's this video about Maggie.
One of the most touching moments in the history of the Simpsons. As stupid and aloof as Homer is, he really does love his children despite his inadequacies. This clip is a perfect example of that.
in these new seasons homer is a sadistic I preferred him in the old days, who managed to explore a beautiful humor and still make you cry with emotion.
I hate when people compare The Simpsons to Family guy, no hate in Family Guy, but both shows aren’t really a like, Simpsons old episodes are more compelling while still having comedy, Family guy is all about offensive jokes and just focuses on retardation
Don’t forget Lisa becomes President of the United States of America and Bart becomes Chief Justice of the Supreme Court! Both Homer and Marge should be such proud parents!
People talk a lot about Homer in this episode but Marge doesn't get upset at Homer for voicing his frustrations despite him being a bit of a jerk at times. Truly a blessed marriage.
As a brand new father working a well paying but shit job so I can support my family, this episode just brings me to tears every time. You do what you have to for your kids, even if it sucks so that you can give them everything.
When I was a kid I thought this was sweet. However, after becoming adult and now a father I tear up at this. Idc if customers yell at me at least I get paid to support my family, house and car and manager says I'm great at my job.
Genuinely gets me shedding tears every time. You dont have to be a rocket scientist. You just gotta look after what's important. Homer. You're the man.
My favorite Simpsons episode of all time...the comedy, the heart, and writing in this episode is just pitch perfect to me. Still makes me tear up watching it every time
I’ve watched this scene dozens of times and I’ve just now noticed that at 1:43 a picture of Maggie is framed on the wall while she is currently in Marges belly lol
Every single time I watch this episode/clip my eyes well up immediately when the camera pans over the pictures on his workplace walls. Such a touching moment.
My dad let me watch the Simpsons as a kid and I remember vividly watching this episode on one of those old back of the car seat TVs. Ofc I never truly understood all the jokes at the time and such, but this scene stuck to me for life. I hope to have a family oneday...
Yeardley Smith (the actress who voices Lisa) describes Homer the best: Homer is "the really well-meaning, but absolutely stupid, eat too much, super dumb dad that we all love."
My dad died in 2020 and this scene reminded me alot of how kuch sacrifice and hardwork he has done for the family, even in bad days he still manages to keep his chin up and spend time with me and mom. I still cry looking at the scene of Maggie's pictures in Homer's office because it reminds me of my Dad keeping pictures of me and mom in his wallet, everytime he opens it, my face is the one you'll see first.
Let me get this straight. Mr. Burns: 1. Didn't press charges against Homer for assault, destruction of property, and arson (literally burning a bridge). 2. Allowed Homer his old job back instead of refusing to hire him or giving him a demeaning job. 3. Just put a sign on his wall to mock him and allows him to decorate it as he sees fit. This may be the kindest thing Mr. Burns has done.
Mr. Burns thinks he's tormenting him and it makes him happy, because he doesn't understand what's it like to care about something other than money and power. I think the idea is that Mr. Burns thinks he's humiliating Homer, but Maggie reminds Homer that he has everything he needs.
Congratulations man. Hope you and your wife or girlfriend make the most of this journey together and hope your child is the best of the both of you. Take care and good luck man.
I've loved the Simpsons show my whole life. I started watching it when I was just a little boy. Growing older, I've come to realise that the older episodes were some of the most fun and enthusiastic shows ever made. It really mirrored some real-life lessons and showed how the world is full of problems, while also staying true to its characters and how to engage with these problems. This right here is one of them. It ain't easy being a father of three kids, working long-hours at a job that you don't like, while having a mean boss. Homer might be the dumb, lazy and funny father, but he's also full of heart. This goes to show how much he loves his wife and children. Many of us can actually relate to a lot of things that are shown here, whether it be something cruel or engaging. Now that I'm older and see the bigger picture of the show, I come to realise that the Simpsons was really ahead of its time. It might've been a show that many people either didn't like or simply missunderstood, but it sure was the show that taught me many good things in life, all while serving plenty of laughter. The Simpsons will forever be remembered as the best TV show ever made, in my opinion.
Maggie loves Homer so much. She clung to him right after she was born. She’s the only one that prefers to call him Dad and tried to kill the person that caused her dad the most pain
As someone in their mid 30’s who has been a dad since I was 19 when I found out felt “there goes my life.” I gave up hanging out with my friends, video games, and got a full time job I hated. I never wanted my daughter and saw her the same way Homer did all the way up till she was born. When I heard her cry my whole view changed and she became the best part of my life and I would do anything for her. I never understand the sentiment growing up of why everyone enjoyed the “old” Simpson more till I remembered this scene and honesty it’s touching my soul more than ever and I’ve been a proud father since and continue to try and be the best for my daughter.
I love how human this episode made homer. You could actually relate to all his feelings. And the moment of despair of leaving his dream job and going back to a job he actually loathed for his family. All that didn't matter the second Maggie was born. He saw her as the biggest prize of his life.
homer might be the stupidity personified, but hes straight up family men, cares for his children, has taking everthing like a champ, he provides for his family and has stayed with marge dispite everthing ,of course till they decide to trash the show...
In Lisa's wedding she has Homer's photo on her wall hinting at a close relationship and they both share an interest in rock music as opposed to Lisa who Homer bought a saxophone for and only likes Jazz. Future Maggie seems to have Bart's attitude and Lisa's intelligence meaning she and Homer could share the same type of humour and goof off together whilst still Lisa is more righteous.
The reason Homer gets away with being such a fool is that he truly appreciates what he has. No matter how dimwitted homer is, he loves his family and shows respect to pretty much everybody but Flanders.
I don't really feel like I need to say this but the ability of the writers and the animators to just... dance around with the emotions and have them all land is just... Golden Age Simpsons is just something else. So great.
Being adult whenever i had a bad day at work and tons of load, i always remember this episode, and reminds me what is the most important thing in this life, and also i keep going and try my best for my baby girl at home. Thank you homer

Such a shame that this cartoon became a tragedy as time went on. These early episodes actually portrayed the unity of family. Later episodes relied too much on pop culture references and celebrity guest cameos
I love this episode, while Homer is not the best father, he loves his children, maybe his behavior is not the most appropriate but let's not forget that his father did not treat him in the best way, so after everything he went through he at least strives and that is what counts.
I have become a father of a beautiful daughter around 10 months ago I would go above and beyond to protect her and to make sure she is always happy and healthy She is the reason I open my eyes everyday and get out of my bed At work..I literally count the minutes so I can see her face as fast as possible God bless her

He tries to find work around the town to get Christmas presents, he gets two jobs to pay for Lisa’s pony, and even when he’s defeated and forced to return to the power plant to pay for 3 children, he is able to remind himself of why he is suffering. That do it for her meant so much to me cause me and my girlfriend at the time now ex were going through a lot and i had issues being a better person for her so I found that imagine with blanks were Maggie’s face is and cropped photos of my ex and made it a widge on my phone to remind myself to always be better for her and it was also an anniversary gift for her

One of the best endings to an episode ever. Things like this are why early Simpsons is so great. Despite all of his flaws and shortcomings, Homer truly loves and cares for his family more than every other. He is so easy to root for, hard to say the same thing now.
