    Add a Sin for having La Llorona enter the people's houses
    Her lore says that she goes around looking for children when their out late at night without parental supervision (it's an Urban Legend ment to keep kids in doors after Dark)
    The setting would have made more sense if it took place during a camping trip near a river (because most of interpretations says drowned them in a river)

    The original story ( or at least what my oma told me) was that a Beautiful poor woman married a rich man. He gave her wonderful gifts and went on frequent business trips. She eventually had two children and loved them dearly. She started aging and while she was still beautiful, her husband cheated on her. Out of grief she wandered to a nearby river and threw her children in, they couldn’t swim and and drowned. She then saw what she did and threw herself in. She roams the world near rivers looking for her children, not other children. When she gets closer to them and sees they’re not hers, she throws them into the water out of rage. If men walk near rivers she will throw them in thinking they’re her husband. Mothers tell this story to scare children into staying away from rushing waters at night. This movie could have done so much better with the story, but failed

    This movie could've been something great to be honest, for the legend of La Llorona you'd imagine a movie with more eerieness than a bunch of jump-scares. Imagine it, I mean we don't even hear that much crying from the WEEPING WOMAN X). (I see this is an old video but)
    Can't you imagine a setting where kids sneaking out of their houses are trying to meet together in the dead of night? As the group waits for one of em, it cuts to his/ her bike riding, only to hear crying, in the distance.
    Sounds pretty far, but as that friend continues their journey it begins to sound more like a scream, frantic cries that are loud enough to disorient anyone.
    They can't take it, it is surrounding, they close their eyes, they cover their ears! As it dissipates the young one reluctantly opens their eyes and before them... a river. Those cries, they are distant again.
    SEE eerie, creepy, it would put the audience along the same ride as they are forced to listen to the cries, and now the damn kid is lost. Everyone at the edge of their seats not prepared for what may happen next.

    Another sin: The movie strays way away from the actual legend. I've always heard the tale like this;
    A widowed mother lives in a small house in a village with her 2 children one night both her children go missing and search parties are sent out. A few days later their bodies are found in a nearby lake and an autopsy reveals that they drowned in the lake. Overwhelmed with grief the mother kills herself and haunts the lake where her children died. She does take children to replace her own every once in a while but she never explicitly kills them. She and the child simply disappear. Also it's said she constantly wails the frase, "Hay, !mis hijos!" which means "Oh, my children!" but I didn't hear her utter anything even remotely similar during the movie. TLDR: The movie isn't like the legend.

Then the protagonist shows up and helps the little girl find her brother. And few strange events occur(I don't remember the whole movie) but the ghost reaches the kids and the kids got knocked out or something and the ghost sees the kids as her own. So something happens, she turns good, the little girl's brother came back, and they live happily ever after, The End. I don't remember what the movie is called, but it was a horror kids cartoon movie that was in Spanish.

    The legend of La Llorona changes every single time its retold. I heard that her husband left her so she drowned the kids to get back at him. I’ve also heard that she left her kids in a river and she lost her bodies; which explains why she is seen around bodies of water. She was cursed to walk the world and find her children.

  • @reigee2869
    @reigee2869 Před rokem +6

    It’s an urban legend meant to keep kids from being out at night in places where there’s running bodies of water. It originates in Mexico where labor and living in open fields was once very common, so having children fall into rivers and whatnot was a real threat, especially at night. The small details in the story vary across communities, but the major elements are always the same. My parents come from a small rural town in Mexico like the one described in the story, so she’s actually still a big thing for them. My dad actually swears he’s seen her twice when he used to work as a campesino in his youth in Mexico and it makes him super mad when I tell him she’s not real. He takes it super personally, lol.

    The story that they gave in the movie is very different from the actuall tale.
    La llarona lived in a small town and was the prettiest girl there. Her parents wanted her to marry so that the boys would leave her alone, but she didn't have eyes for anyone at all. One day a wealthy traveler in an ornate carriage passed through town, saw her loveliness, and they got together. Less than a week later he leaves to go back home, promising to return (Eventually). And, of course, she got pregnant. She gave birth to two children, a boy and a girl, and they lived in their little town more or less happily. But She was still waiting for her prince to return.
    About five years later he does return, but he returns with his arms around a beautiful young woman. Outraged at him, she flew into a rage and ended up drowning her children in a river to get back at him. When he saw what she'd done, he yelled and publicly shamed her, then left with his new girl.
    She was disowned by her family and ostracized by the town. And she was remorseful that she had killed her children. She went insane. She drowned in the same river her children died in, and now she searches for them.
    She loved her kids and didn't want to hurt them, she just went momentarily crazy because her boyfriend ran off. Not saying that it was okay, just saying that she wasn't trying to drag in other peoples kids. She's looking for her own kids and gets confused because water distorts reflections. Stay away from the white spots in the water kids.
