  • The Boy is a recent-ish horror film that I guess did well enough, because there's a sequel coming out soon, which is why we decided to sin this movie. It's so sinful I've already forgotten most of it.
    Thursday: Recent cartoon sins.
    Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

    I think the changing of the dolls' clothes was about two things: Firstly the nanny was not supposed to know about real Brahms. Asking her to treat the doll like a real boy (assuming it was kind of an replacement for the supposedly dead real son) without changing the clothes does not fit the big picture. Secondly and maybe even more important, real Brahms was a fucking creep living in the walls and peeping on the nanny. He obvsly like the idea of her, who he fancied, tenderly caring for his doll-double. At least that's what I think.

    I actually gotta give this movie props for doing the cursed doll right, because technically the doll itself isn't cursed, but instead there is a deranged serial killer hiding inside the house that uses the doll as a tool to torment his targeted caretaker. I only watched this movie once, but i do remember the rules. The caretaker is charged with taking care of the doll, and if the caretaker doesn't obey the rules, "Brahms" will not be happy and get the caretaker killed, or rather the hidden serial killer will come out of hiding to kill the caretaker.

    This might be the most poorly engineered horror plot ever. All the reasons for the doll to exist, for keeping Brahms in the walls, and for him to wear a weird porcelain mask don't make any sense. Brahms is in no danger if he just lives a quiet life at the house. After his death is faked it's not like people are still looking for him decades later. At the worst, his parents would just have to pay for some new identity documentation. If anyone stops by on accident he can just go by the name Fred for a while or something.

It was my first horror film, and I was really frightened up until the scene where real Brahms jumped out of the mirror and I realised two things:
    1. The actor for Real Brahm's was PINK and HAIRY. Nothing like the pale kid they had been representing the entire movie. Yeah, I get it, he was living in the walls and had no time to shave, but couldn't they have found someone a little paler?
    2. The mask JIGGLED. It wobbled when he screamed, like jelly.
    For some reason, I found this the most hilarious thing in the world, and went from whimpering to laughing my ass off. I've been a horror movie fanatic since then, and it takes something real good to scare me :)

I mean it's all about how they tricked these two into believing it was Brahms ghost who was doing this when it was actually him. Where we leave off the doll has been put back together by the VERY ALIVE Brahms. Yet as far as we can see in the trailer of the new movie it actually IS paranormal as the doll has been buried and is seemingly possessing the boy who found the doll. I dont even know man

If they are going paranormal I wish they'd done so from the start. Personally I liked the way the first movie went, I just dont get the point of both existing. The first one was a great plot twist in my opinion even if as Jeremy points out she should've caught on a lot sooner. The second one is either going to be the same thing (so why bother) or the complete opposite (which would've been great for the first movie too but is weird given the first movies twist of it all being set in reality). But still, no ones mad here buddy- just curious and interested in normal conversation about where they plan to actually take this movie as everyone else is doing after watching the trailers

    • @DraconicDuelist

      @@heavenlance7833 Could it be that in the first one, Brahms _is_ a possessed doll (possibly made with some of the real boy's physical matter, such as his hair) that is controlling the 30 yr-old dude in the walls? Like the doll is evil but it's spirit can control a living subject. Brahms' parents allowed the initial possession to keep their son close, putting up with the fact he never mentally ages. When the doll was smashed, he used some of his power to reconstruct himself before his human body died from blood loss causing him to go into "hibernation." The fact he no longer interacts caused his parents to think he is dead now, so they bury him. Time passes and he rebuilds his strength to possess a new human's body, leading into the sequel.

    • @heavenlance7833
      @heavenlance7833 Před 4 lety +17

      @@DraconicDuelist I like this concept a lot, though I think now that you mention it it could be something very similar in that the doll is just simply possessed and controlled brahms all along. So the 30 year old dude is still brahms just being controlled by the evil entity. As for how the doll ends up in the ground though I know I couldn't have been the parents as they (spoiler) walked into the ocean to end their lives. That's why they hired the nanny. They loved brahms and wanted to take care of him still but could no longer keep up with the lies. I think it was foundflix that explained how after the girls death they were so desperate to keep onto the "precious angel" that they faked his death and then for years went about this delusion so they could still care for their son without actually having to face him.
      But again the idea that the doll is in fact paranormal and has been possessing its owners would make a lot more sense than just "dude is crazy" followed by "oh also the ghost doll thing is real too we just wanted to do crazy guy twist first"

    I have a theory that maybe the rule about Brahms needing new clothes, has something to do with the guy in the walls. Basically, what clothes is the doll wearing, shows what the guy in walls should be wearing, because Brahms is a man who also needs to be taken care of like a child. So Greta is supposed to show him how to dress up for different occasions, such as, going outside or going to sleep... Maybe. OR maybe it was just a simple thing to include into the routine, you know, cuz' you're caring for a DOLL. And all dolls require clothe changing...

    The: scary music in the background, "If she's not scared then why tf should I be?" comment is the Realest outside of other continuity-error type sins. There's strange stuff that doesn't make sense in films that might be sinnable, and is on here, but calling out the actual scoring of the film, man, outside of jumpscare crap, I think that's a first, and it's completely legit.
