Cause they started releasing 4 versions of each album starting from their first full album and onwards. meaning 1 person buying all 4 versions make for a total sale of 4 for the album. So it's a combo of both growth but also cause they started releasing 4 versions. :)

Hard to blame 'em really... South Korea "by design" in terms of rock music exposure compared to the rest of the world (heck even to my country Malaysia) are 2 full decades BEHIND due to that late 60s - end 80s Park Chung Hee's regime "blackout". It's not easy to shape a whole country's society musical preferences when they have to "catch up" and be overwhelmed by what's technically a wildly varying foreign/West heavy influence with that long of a time gap. Attention span gets stretched, they'd pick 1 or 2 genres they like and quickly moved on. Rock itself is essentially more of an "acquired taste" kind of thing which compounds the problem.
Honestly if they came from a big name company they will be popular due to company name, but with group like Dreamcatcher they create loyal fans rather than fans who are just there for the name and hype

@@map6176 happy face / dreamcatcher company used to be one of the most popular companies outside the big three for many years until 2018/19, when their name change started to impact them and many of their groups disbanded and they didn't make much effort to have popular side acts.
if you look at reactions in produce 100/48, all trainees were in awe when happy face had send trainees and had much respect of the companies trainees.
Ateez's music is so versatile n pretty unique. I don't know what Korea is looking for but to me, Ateez are literally living up to high expectations

Unless these groups are like Bts and twice that have a solid reputation and have won trust for years, the average person won't listen to them in SK. Dreamcatcher was really one of a kind and had such a unique sound , I refuse to believe the're underrated in South Korea

Attending in MAMA 2014 is not the same as being welcomed to the Kpop Industry. And they are still black sheep of Kpop up to this day. VAV. but they never got recognition in korea cuz of lookism.

Those of us who LOVE the black sheep of KPOP know rare gems. It gives us a badge of honor to already love (stan) these groups. To already be a fan of these groups is literally the best, because when someone new comes in like those who didn't want to Stan them and is shocked at how good they are we get to have smiles on our faces and say "glad you can join us". To see new fans take notice of these groups is literally the best feeling.

I'm not that much of a big fan of Everglow but I really love and listen to their songs right from their debut "Bon bon Chocolat" to their latest song "First ". I hope all these groups mentioned here ends up getting more recognition in South Korea coz there's nothing sweeter than home..

loona did NOT debut in 2016, they debuted in 2018. and they did get 1ST in GG RANKINGS in March 2020. They didn't get "TONS" of promotions because their company became broke and they went on hiatus for months. + they're literally a group with 0 seniors and built themselves up from a nobody company. And Nobody ever called them "the girl group that invested 8 times more than TWICE" except 1 person. for the love of god don't talk about them or spread mis-info if you didn't do proper research.

1. 3:55 "debuting in 2016", 4:06 "5 years since debut": They debuted in 2018, not 2016. Heejin had her predebut solo release in 2016. They will have their 3rd debut anniversary on August 19th, 2021.
2. 4:19 "never gotten to set their foot in the top 20 of the Girl Ground Brand Reputation": LOONA has ranked within the top 20 numerous times, 6 times in 2021 alone (every month except for June, when they were 23rd.) They even ranked #1 in March 2020.
3. 4:24 "about their single albums" LOONA's only albums with physical copies are mini albums (1 repackage album, not single albums).
4. 4:30 "the lowest being just over 61,000" Assuming you're talking about total physical album sales, as of the most recent Gaon chart update, LOONA's lowest-selling album is [X X], with 45,782 copies.
5. 4:47 "4 achievements on Billboards social chart system" This entire section is a mess. Butterfly did rank #6 on the World Digital Song Sales chart, but it is not their only song to enter the chart. Their peaks on the chart are: #1 365, #4 favOriTe, #4 So What, #6 Butterfly, #9 PTT (Paint The Town)
and #11 Hi High. Similarly, you left out the fact that ALL of their albums (except [&], which debuted this week at #14) reached a peak of #4 on the World Albums Chart. You also left out that [+ +] reached #4 on the Heatseekers Chart, [#] reached #19, and [12:00] reached #1. I could continue listing Billboard achievements you failed to mention, such as [12:00] debuting at #112 on the Billboard 200, or "Star" peaking at #31 on the Pop Airplay Chart, but I'll stop here.

LOONA debuted in 2018 as a FULL group. Only 3 of the members had debuted in 2016, and almost half of them weren’t even in the company yet by 2016. They have over half a million sales right now, they’re the first small-mid tier company girl group to chart on Billboard 200 and the 2nd group overall after BTS themselves. They’ve also ranked FIRST (1st) place on that brand reputation chart. They’ve been praised by multiple Korean music critics including KMA critics (the Korean Grammys). They’re one of the few if not the only 4th gen group to come out with a variety star like Chuu, who’s been getting really popular and just got one of those coveted fried chicken CFs which are known to only be given to big stars, as well as becoming the face for POCARI SWEAT, another legendary and desired CF for Korean celebrities in general and not just idols, as well as Samsung.
You couldn’t even get the chart name right, it’s not “Heat Secret Album Chart”, its “Heatseekers”. They’re growing at a steady, normal pace, which usually leads to more stable careers instead of immediate and fickle success.
Let’s do some research beyond forum communities and Wikipedia.

You didn't mention how they're the only kpop grp to be invited to Primivera sound festival and became the first kpop gg to rank first in the Billboard next sound chart.
Yeah she said they were at the highest peak at 2018-2019 but the achievements they got I 2020 and 2021 is massive
And they are in top 10 girl groups with most album sales
I guess there's not enough data to research that yet and the video was likely made very early with a look only of the past years.

Most of these groups are what stan twt flag as black sheep because they're afraid of that talent exceeding anything else. The amount of hate every group here gets on other platforms is ridiculous. These groups are all well renowned among their own industry because even though domestically they have barely touched the surface, internationally, those well known groups would never touch. Ateez has shown so much when it comes to how good they actually are, both international music show wise and from shows like immortal songs where they have 3 wins which is tied with mamamoo for most immortal songs wins by a group while only appearing on immortal 4 times and much more. They have been doing so well and will absolutely just become bigger in the future. Insanely impressive. Have been noticed by multiple of the biggest veterans in kpop like Rain, Psy and more and has so much potential.
Oh boy... Dream Catcher being highly appreciated abroad but kind of unappreciated locally. Developing a unique concept is not appealing to Korean eyes and ears sadly, girls are even aware of that, still, they're creating music they're into and makes them happy. If they're happy InSonmia is happy as well.

Everything about Loona was so wrong. They didn't debut in 2016, they debuted in August 2018. They ranked #1 in girl group reputation in March of 2020. The reason their sales were so low was because they switched printing companies like 3 times and the first week of sales always got fucked up and sales made in many websites don't count towards hanteo or the gaon chart. Couldn't even do basis research smh

Why is the LOONA portion of this video SO FULL of misinformation?
First of all, LOONA did not debut in 2016, they debuted as a full group in 2018. In 2016, half the group wasn't even a part of Blockberry Creative Ent. yet.
Not only that, but them charting #112 on Billboard 200 wasn't even mentioned, and you put the wrong name for the Billboard Heat Seekers chart.
They've literally gotten #1 on Girlgroup brand rankings before during So What era and have gotten in on top 20 multiple times now.
Literally no one calls them "the gg who was invested in 8 times more than Twice".

This is so researched poorly. Loona isn't a Black Sheep because they have been gradually growing in domestic popularity especially with the members' activities. They literally topped brand reputations last year and has won several Korean awards. Their recognition among the general public is growing so they'll be fine.
There will always be groups that will be slept on because Korea stopped caring about idols after the 2nd generation apart from a few groups like BTS, Oh My Girl, and Brave Girls. Most of these groups market themselves to the international taste more so obviously they would be more popular overseas.

Trust me, these group aren't underrated because their music are bad. It's because most people nowadays are blinded by popularity. They tend to more focus on famous kpop groups and forget that there's still a lot more talented underrated groups in Kpop industry. As an Orbit, InSomnia and Forever, I'm so disappointed with this. I'm not saying that famous groups have no talent but I hope people will open their eyes to focus more on talent than popularity

TOO MANY INFO about LOONA are FALSE!!! The group full debut was on 19/8/2018 with Hi High..This means this year marks 3RD YEAR anniversary with LOONA. 2016 was when the pre-debut project started with solos and subunit. The girls also got NO.1 on Girl Group Brand Reputation Ranking on MARCH 2020 and has been in the top 20 many times already. LOONA also has got their 2nd win on 6/7 b4 you post this on 7/7..Do your RESEARCH properly PLEASE b4 posting this. Thank You. Btw, LOONA the only group that from non-big3 companies that charted on Billboard 200 and Billboard Pop Radio Airplay Chart :)

KARD! Their first releases should have been recognized as bops by domestic and international audiences alike. Recently their title tracks have a different sound ~ but they are so unique! Charisma! Novelty! I hope they can get some recognition in South Korea ~ and better attendance at fanmeetings 💔

As an Insomnia and a Forever it's incredibly sad how all these amazing groups have so much talent and have different sounds and concepts than today's "generic" bubblegum pop/cutesy type of music, these 5 groups have extraordinary talent but are slept on by many many people in the general public of Korea.

there is no way ateez is a black sheep of kpop, they have great concept, image and music taste, they are definitely worth to stan i was kinda disappointed you included them as " black sheep", but they're 8 kings in my eyes and my heart

Domestically unfortunately they're not well known yet because most Koreans can't comprehend dark concept as well as Westerners. Black sheep doesn't mean anything bad, it's actually a compliment, it's the equivalent to calling the group a hidden gem while silently noting that people that aren't paying attention are missing out.
The perspective on darker concepts is gradually changing though, as 3rd gen becomes older and most of them begin to retire people's mindsets will adapt to 4th gen, which a lot of 4th gen idols produce darker concepts.
ATEEZ and Dreamcatcher will both be domestically noticed equally and simultaneously, because both groups have similar sound which results in (unplanned, unintended) sharing part of their fan bases (LEEZ and Ollounder rock), and both are growing drastically domestically, I haven't been paying as much attention to ATEEZ lately but Dreamcatcher have been doubling and tripling their numbers these past few comebacks, especially with the Dystopia series.
They'll both blow up soon enough and then Koreans will have no option but to notice them. :)

I've been a kpop fan for many years. But I've never seen a group like ATEEZ. They are so freaking talented. All of them are visuals too. Their stage performances are incredible. Not just incredible. Breathtakingly incredible. Omgg

This is a good video w a good intention but the lack of research and misinformations on loona is very saddening... i was also waiting for the bb200, #1 on heatseakers, top40 us radio, etc well ik its a lot to add all in the video but these are like big big achievements that should be in it... also, theyre growing domestically now, sk is even one of the top countries in terms of streaming new releases, esp that the members, mainly chuu, is gaining popularity there

For everglow, no they are not "unknown" in Korea when they have 2 produce 48 contestants as members.
For ateez , one of the highest selling 4th gen groups in general should not be included here. They literally have multiple awards and got daesang nominations for the cycle of 2020 , which only 1 other 4th gen BG got. They won a bonsang in 2021 SMA , the oldest award show , are tied with mmm for most immortal songs wins ever AND are one of only 4 4th gen bgs to reach 350k unique listeners on a single song on melon, Korea's largest music streaming site.
If you talk about music show wins ,5 wins on 3 different albums is a lot when big 3 bgs from 4th gen are struggling to do the same.

We insomnia don't care about first win now .they rank 8 in hantao global kpop report only gg in top 10 . Number one in billboard next big sounds only kpop group. 150k albums sells in month They have so many brand deals. Video games sponsorship to k drama ost to even animes as a kpop fan you have to understand if your idol or group is not making money it will effects them in long run just look at brave girls story before going viral how they struggle only because of money as a dreamcatcher fan im enjoying their success we insomnia will going to support them till the end 💜

The first win is not a priority anymore, but we will continue to try to give them the first win. At least the first win can be a prize not only for dreamcatcher and dcc, but for InSomnia as well.

Piri was my first song that I listen from Dreamcatcher. And Pirate King was the first one from ATEEZ.

I literally don't care if they are being called the "black sheep" or anything but the least this person (who made the vid) could do is put honor in ATEEZ name. Also, the fact that 2 of their albums were nominated for best albums (gaon music award), nominated for best songs (MAMA2020), best perf. grp (MAMA2020), etc. They didn't win it but its meaningful enough that they're nominated along with the big2 kpop grps. "Black sheep" or anything, ATEEZ actually brings honor for their country even though they aren't from the big4 comps & everyone should know that.
