Then you cargo on about the different ways people talk and different accents.

So it should just be 3년 (3 nyeon) "3 years" and without the 개 (gae) number counter or another number counter (yes, there are multiple kinds of number counters for specific things for is counting, thank you Korean language).
I just really wanted to point this out because I made the exact same mistake when first starting to learn Korean before being corrected. So I just want to pass along this information so at least one other person may not have to go through the same embarassment, heh..
As a korean who lives overseas who speaks the language “enough to have a conversation” i can relate this in so many levels haha
