    you know what I love about your videos
    You take a category
    And you just present a few option
    And every options has a point
    it's not just about reviewing just because
    It's simple and you really help more novice riders to know what to look for

    "It's theoretically possible that a shoestring could catch somewhere on my motorcycle so when I get to the next stoplight and go to put a foot down I tumble over. That would be a very lame and public crash but alas, it probably not a dangerous one".
    Yes, this happened to me early in motorcycling life. It is the reason why all my motorcycle boots now use zippers and no laces. Yes, they look like "biker boots" but alas, there is a reason that style got that moniker.
    Another thing I learned that year: gauntlet gloves prevent angry hornets from getting trapped under your watch...;)

      The lace to foot peg lock has happened to me many times. Luckily . . . ok not luckily, . . . . I have learned to test for this before I stop, so I can unhook it and stop normally without crashing. I have since binned the lace up boots and only go zipper and that issue is gone.

    I have the Alpinestars SMX1. I wear them every day since I commute on my bike, honestly I don't see why one would care to look like they didn't ride to their destination. I'll gladly wear all my gear wherever I go. I have regular shoes since they're easier to drive in (wider sole for heel-toe, better left/right movement) but when it comes to riding, it's important to remember that footwear is purpose-built. I only wear my boots if I'm riding but I only wear sneakers when driving. Toe sliders always come in handy, though. Will never own boots without them

    I've had the TCX X -Street for 3 years now. Ive been wearing them as regular very day street shoes. I never had sore feet, even after a 15km around town. On the bike, they feel great and keep my feet dry in the rain.
    My only complaint is the insoles. They kept sliding up my feet. I replaced them with custom mouldable insole.

    Great video as usual but let's be honest, most riding shoes are tidy and are better than any standard boot or shoes. I had my first accident recently on a little work bike, a honda cbf125 and I'm so glad I had on motorbike short boots. I was coming off a big roundabout a short distance from work late at night as I was going home and I hadn't noticed the temperature had plummeted a lot, I came around a bend off the roundabout with not that much lean on and the bike started to slide underneath me, now naturally from riding mountain bikes so much IO stuck my leg out to save myself and the bike, but my foot got caught underneath the left side peg and pretty much all the weight of the bike came down on top of my ankle, it felt like my foot was being squashed and twisted off at the same time.
    At the hospital, they told me it was fractured, now while that's awful and I hate being on crutches, I couldn't help but think my foot might not be there if it wasn't for those boots so very grateful, there's barely a mark on them, just a scuff on the outside where it was sort of sandwiched in between the bike and the tarmac.

    Xstreet everyday, tcx is a grat company . I had these shoes for 2 years, every time i take the bike. sturdy, waterproof, reaaaaaally comfy and i can't tell the difference with regular shoes for walking

  • @ThroughFallenEyes
    @ThroughFallenEyes Před 7 lety

    i have an older version of the tcx x-street (blue and grey version). that one's sizing was way off. i'm normally a 11.5-12 in typical shoes, bought a 11 in those and its still a full size too large. hopefully they fixed it by now, but the thing is great so far. nobody knows its a riding show and i frequently shock people when i tell them (and show them) it has some armoring in it. nobody has any idea its a motorcycle shoe. my biggest complaint is walking. if you plan on doing more than an hour of walking, even my old non-waterproof version is hot, heavy, and bulky. and if you're like me and like low cut socks, the upper part of the shoe can start to dig into your leg after over an hour of walking around. great for short walks, not good at all for more than that

    I have the icons and, I'm not sure if I got a bad pair, but they are terrible.
    On mine the strap constantly comes unbuckled on both shoes and/or they loosen because Icon used a shitty design to allow for adjustment. The grip is horrible in the rain. My toes are constantly cold if I wear them in temps below 20c on a cloudy day or 16c on a sunny day.

    Hey ryan, love your videos. what do you have to say about speed and strength?

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  Před 8 lety +1

      S&S competes for Icon's market a lot, which is a good thing. Probably keeps the *iconic* collection from getting silly with their prices. In my opinion, Speed and Strength does very well with their textile gear (I would choose some of it). But their leather gear doesn't hold up as well. S&S helmets are generally decent budget options. But it's a very competitive market at that level and LS2 or HJC normally has them beat on quality. S&S buckets always looks cooler, though. ~RyanF9

Icon is a much more established company I have my sights set on the Icon hypersports gloves and maybe a hero prime jacket down the road or another Scorpion Jacket who knows. Speed and strength gets bashed on their quality enough that I will not be purchasing from their line again.

      Thank you. I'm a recent subscriber and I'm really enjoying your reviews.
      As for the overpants, I'm looking for something I may be able to wear over shorts yet provide some safety.
      I'm tuned in.

    First bike I ever owned my shoe laces caught on my shifter peg and I laid the bike over right at an intercection. I felt like such an idiot. That's when I started tucking my laces.

    What's wrong with the full height , more protective boots you've already got ?
    Chucking a pair of shoes in a rucksack is surely easier. . . . .

    On the Icons, whats the width on them?

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  Před 8 lety

      Icon doesn't do specific width sizing, but it felt normal to me. If anything, they tend to run a little on the wide side. I have D-width feet, and the Super Duty 4s were comfortable but a *smidge* roomy on the sides. ~RyanF9

      +FortNine What about the TCX X-Streets' width? They look incredibly comfortable. Any idea why motorcycle shoe/boot manufacturers tend to shy away from labeling their foot wears width? It's incredibly frustrating for those of us who have duck feet.

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  Před 8 lety +2

      Also unlabeled, but I would say somewhere between D and E width. As a brand, TCX tends to run wide across their whole lineup. The X-Street is comfy but surprisingly rigid ... the X-Blend is a much softer boot out of the box. As for why motorcycle companies don't label their width, I'm as clueless (and frustrated) as you are! ~RyanF9

      I have a pair they also run almost a size larger than normal. I wear a 9.5/10 had to send them back and order a 8.5 it fits perfectly. Love these shoes though. On and off the bike they look good.

      I get where you are coming from. When I ride my dirt bike I just wear my Nikes. I get that it is dangerous, but it is much more comfortable and less akward to shift and brake. It also allows me to go much faster through the trails.
