    Beautiful boots. Usually I would find a more stable oil than vegetable oil. Choose something with a long shelf life like mink oil. Vegetable oils typically become rancid and can damage the leather fibre. Have a good day.

      I use Balistol on my leather boots. Works wonders. Its highly distilled mineral oil thats also food safe. Use it to clean my hunting rifle and my leather hunting gear

    I think this is mentioned below, but vegetable oil will go rancid and actually damage the boots worse than you started off.
    A good saddle oil, or castor oil will do the trick nicely.
    It will take a few applications over a period of time to let the oils completely soak into all of the fibres of the leather but the results are worth the effort.

    Hi soviet boots!, what do you call these type of boots?, are they very old?, the last time i had some russian boots, they were half leather, but the uppervpart was like a kind of plastic material

    • @sovietboots
      @sovietboots  Před 6 lety +4

      hI! These boots on the video all natural leather, but very old and leather as stone, these problems if long time boots storage on sun or in heat, leather dries up, and can with oil return elastic.
      About your boots, it was soldier boots, it is not plactic, it is unique special Russian military material (Kersey) cotton with caoutchouc, these material is lightweight and wear-resistant, but these material was technology old boots, after 1990 and now times these material worse quality with plactic and imitation leather, if need soldier boots need take 1970-80s and with straps inside (war version), these best Kersey boots quality, if need 100% Leather excellent is officer or juft boots, materials quality better than expensive other countries brand boots)

      Если сапоги сухие, то маслом надо пропитать, сухая кожа впитывает обильно масло и становиться мягкой

      Some oils dry into a sticky film. Lard, on the other hand, does not. Readily accessible, cheap (it's basically a byproduct), and contrary to what people believe, it doesn't rot out the stiches. The side effects may include your boot getting mauled by a hunting dog - like my current, 3+ year old boots that are missing a bit of the tongue because of a cute doggie taste tested those.
      Mix it with beeswax, and boom, extra waterproofing on top.

    No joke, but I found a pair of 1800s cosboy boots with buckles, and I would love to wear them, but the leather is hard as stone and that would be a pain breaking in, so I'm guessing I can also do this to them and it should be easier to break in?
