- Why I Quit Working for Others and Took Control of My Life/Old Dog New Tricks@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234 I sit and have a candid conversation with Dan, who has managed to break away from living a traditional American lifestyle, and has not only traveled to over 67 countries, but has amassed wealth by teaching others how to do the same. Not to mention, he is in a committed relationship with a 6 foot tall former runway model, who can not help but envy this man. Be sure to check out his you tube channel in the link below, perhaps you to can think and grow rich, just like Dan

That was a great interview, really got Dan to relax and reveal. Never saw Paul's channel before, but I follow Dan and Qiang Hui. But jeez, Paul has a lot of cranky rude trolls.
Do as I do guy - ignore the trolls , seemingly they are jealous of Paul's success and popularity. I call them bottom feeders or ambulance chasers. They hope to lessen Paul's subscribers / viewers and steal them. Once you have Old Dog, he's a keeper!
That's a nice way to put it. I started on the internet in '93 with AOL and I learned quickly that everyone is a keyboard warrior with no threat back. Life's too short to be critical of others/yourself.
Thanks for having me on your channel Paul. It was a pleasure meeting you finally. Dan
Thanks for coming
😅 you both provided the show with a few mind-twisting selected 'word' brain teasers. Thank you...😮🤔
I was able to make a real connection with both you and Paul. Kudos to both you fine guys! Hope to meet both of you in the near future.
Two important things I learned from Vagabond Awake:
1. Your not in Kansas anymore Dorothy.
2. When you go to a foreign country don’t walk around and show off your wealth. You’re just putting a huge target 🎯 on your back.
I have to thank Dan for this. Learn from people who have the most experience.
You don't have to show off wealth 🤑 in USA to have a target 🎯 on your back, with 2 massive terrorists attack's (mass shootings by media) per Day, it's just a matter of "when" the bullet goes in ones back
Two guys that have found their place in life!
You nailed it.
Two winners.
You mean three guys. Chung is a dude pretending to be a woman
In Dumaguete, a lively place to be,
Lived an old expat named Paul, full of glee.
He dreamed of fame, a life that’s grand,
As a runway model, strutting through the land.
With his weathered face and silvery hair,
Paul set out on a mission, without a care.
He practiced his poses, his catwalk so fine,
Hoping one day his name would truly shine.
But the locals couldn’t help but chuckle and grin,
For Paul was a character, a bit of a whimsical spin.
He’d strut through the streets, all confident and bold,
With flair and flamboyance, a sight to behold.
He’d strike a pose, arms in the air,
Smizing and pouting, with a confident flair.
The passersby would pause and stare,
Amused by Paul’s audacious modeling affair.
Oh, Paul, the expat with dreams so vast,
In Dumaguete, he was an icon, unsurpassed.
Though his runway dreams may seem quite odd,
He brought laughter and joy to this coastal squad.
So let’s celebrate Paul, the aspiring runway king,
His spirit and enthusiasm, a delightful fling.
In Dumaguete’s heart, forever he’ll be,
The eccentric expat we all fondly see.
Great interview. I have watched Dan over a number of year's and he's a class act! Thanks
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉great paul. I checked out dan
Two of my Fav's! Great to see you both collaborating & sharing your wisdom 🙏
Great interview and very informative! You guy's are the best! Be safe peace ❤
You can always speak what you truly love!
No kidding. You guys are two of my favourite vloggers! Have been following you both separately for a number of years now. So cool when the moon and the stars line up and two guys like you get together and mesh so smoothly. So fun to watch. Thanks Dan for sharing earlier parts of your life I wasn't aware of.
I agree and equally appreciative of learning of his early exploits. I admire his decisions to pull the trigger at an earlier stage of his life rather then procrastinate like most of us old dudes. He and Paul wake each day with hope and adventure.
Yay! Thank you!
@paulinthephilippinesolddog9234
I appreciate, admire and respect others who share many of the sensibilities, principles, morals and ethics. More in the past than now ( sadly ) the concept of INTEGRITY is how a man was viewed.
I can relate to you Paul because you seem to possess all of the above
in a sense that is relative to most. Plus you have a sense of humor, love to laugh and still may have some rough edges. Stay safe and enjoy your new chapter with Mae and the pooch.
Dan and his partner an awesome couple.watched alot of his videos full of infos, insight s for travelers n those who intend to immigrate to another country.🙏🙏🙏
Old dog rocks
You should have asked him when is other half transitioned
This guy spends more money on hair dye than Paul of World Zoom
@@ColdAssHonkey-jv8yp 🤣he's enjoying life 👍
@@notwkrail well l was just sharing d 2 country coz Dan mentioned it.I have been to quite a no of countries.of course it has their plus n minus .
This is strange for me. I watched Dan’s channel regularly and started traveling to the countries that looked interesting 5 years ago and started watching Paul’s channel about a year before moving here to Valencia.
I am also cut from the same cloth as you guys.Totally fine with my own company.Ultimately if your not,it can make life difficult,as we do
spend a reasonable time on this planet in our own space and thought's.Self love is not nacissistic its essential for mental health.Watched both interviews, highly entertaining.Well done guys❤❤ 27:40
Think and grow rich is a good book 😉
heart warming video
Brilliant
I've been subscribed and watching since the beginning. I must say, Paul, you look a lot healthier and better than you did when you started. The Philippines is good for the health and the soul 👍
Chang is not just beautiful, based on her and Dan's videos, she is really kind and down to earth person.
Yes she is the epitome of a feminine woman. They compliment eachother in mind and spirit. I'd love to have them as friends.
So who is happier... the guy in the US making 100k+ sitting in his boring cubicle then going home to pay endless taxes & rising bills stressed endlessly, or Dan & Paul relaxing elsewhere? Yes, it's a trick question!
Did you see what that place looks like? It looks like Haiti, it’s the women there, that make all the difference . Imagine bringing an American wife there? She’d be on the next plane out.
@vagabondawake great info/story. All the power is in the curve balls and wrinkles of life. Great simple questions, Paul Old Dog!!
I find the origin and path to glory stories, because they show the obstacles and thought process, are incredibly valuable.
Hi ..PAUL TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF ...
🎉🎉🎉
The 6 foot tal runway model is the best part. lol
I am glad you two got to meet. I watch both of you. fantastic channels.:)
Love both of you vlogs. Keep it up. Living my dream.
Great ideas. Thx for sharing guys. Another great book is Die with Zero. I read it an changed my entire view of life.
Paul I love your channel!! Man you crack me the hell up!! You should have been a comedian!! Keep up the great work I always look forward to your straight talk and no nonsemse approach!! Keep 'em coming I will be watching!!
Hi Paul, Mark here again I was able to Watch both video's and it was like looking in a mirror . I've always said if you're looking for answers just look in any mirror . You have done it and still have the t-shirt. Keep up with keeping it real. Baby Mae is a one in a million or maybe 2.:)
Two of my favorites in one video - well done!
Thank you for making this video!!!
Two beautiful humans…and my favorite expat vloggers🙏🏼❤️🌎
"Perfect imperfections" is from John Legend's ubiquitous 2013 hit song "All of Me"...great song.
I loved this interview! I’ve been following Dan’s CZcams channel for several years now. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dan, a while back, to talk about visas in Thailand which, as Dan said, can be complicated. I left the US for Thailand in 2017. I visited the US last month but have no intentions of living there again.
Dan - you managed to reveal more about yourself and your life observations and philosophy than I’ve heard before. It was great to hear about this in more depth.
What a great guy who happens to have a beautiful and wonderful partner.
Hey, this is for Dan. I just viewed one of your videos where you interviewed a expat via phone 3 yrs ago.
I initially found common ground with him when I 1st. arrived here in the islands. I ventured out and spent nearly 4 days at considerable expense, in hopes to break bread with him. Once I got to his meet & greet ( late) the only contact I had with him was a brief handshake and a photo to confirm to his viewers that he had a good turn out. I feel that when our eyes locked, he sensed that I knew what time it is - he ignored me then avoided me for the next several days even though I stayed in a hotel just 5 min. from his home.
The entire period that I was at his event, he and his bruthas socialized and furthered their facade of being such humanitarians to the filipino community with their charity and compassion that almost called them out. Back in the states, these guys own
kind call them players. Women of their own ethnicity don't put up with them. They all had ONE thing on their minds - exploit the naive women of the Philippines. They degrade women and see them as ( female area of their anatomy ) but grudely use the slang word widely used in their circles. Even in recent videos he professes to keep his women in check simply when the bedroom activity starts to wain is to just look at other women and she will straighten up real quick.
I believe he has fathered 5 children total and currently 2 are in the Philippines. He is still married to a Black woman in the states that he refers to as FAT SHIRLEY and is non supportive of. He has the latest living with him with the girlfriend/mother who they call Boobie. In past videos if the child enters the room while he is vlogging, he gets impatient and summons his girlfriend. In one instance he warns his girlfriend not to get pregnant again but to service him ( he boasts) up to 5 times daily. It's that smirk he has on his face that most viewers might miss that assures me that he is a fraud. Local Filipi os are on to his kind and are having the NBI investigate him for Philippine moral violations. They hope to have him jailed/deported.
I'm NOT racially prejudice but will not condone masogeny.
There is what's named the Passport Bros. emerging rapidly in the islands and they encourage and coach how to prey on the Filipina.
Again, all that I'm posting is my opinion and and personally witnessed. You take it from there. I don't want to see your upstanding reputation as a
accomplished vlogger tainted nor your partner disrespected. For what it's worth. Take care, be safe and happy.
excellent video
I really identified with the comment about becoming your real self during expatriation. I've grown to become the kind of person that I want to be. Not the kind of person others demanded I be.
Agree, that comment and few others as well made my day.❤️
You can reinvent yourself also. Maybe you want to be different than what you have always been in your home country but you knew it would not be accepted by your circle of friends, coworkers or family. Maybe the career that you had required you to be stoic. You're at a different stage of life and want to change your personality. Be the person that you want to be and it will be accepted by others in your new homeland.
It's too bad that most of us westerners don't realize our truth till it's almost to late. It's a universal cornerstone that most parents want, hope or dream for their children have a more fulfilled, prosperous and joyfully life. I'm sure if you interviewed members of past, present and future parents that that point would be expressed in your dialog. If not a conscience thought you know that societal norms would capitalize and somehow monetize that ideology. Over population competition and the advents of technology < AI
make that ideology a mute point. They call that progress... When Paul and Dan came to the realization
that they were just cogs of civilization and had the courage to jump off the merry go round or throw a wrench into the gears - did they find their sense of peace, joy and compatibility to nature. To live in the present and to connect was there all along but there was always someone who said you need more. How much is enough? I thank you Dan and Paul for showing ( living ) us in real time that
all we really Need was there all along. I don't know if I'm just speaking jibberish but I just had to speak out. I wish nothing but enlightenment and safe travels to all who embark on a new journey and a new season.
Smooth video, really relaxing 😊
Great interview. Also enjoy watching the interview on his channel. Not really sure about doing you tube but would enjoy traveling the world. I want to travel and enjoy other cultures with my wife of 30+ years. Thanks for making these videos.
Great interview. Two best vloggers on CZcams. Great chemistry.
Please young people listen to these two guys, their giving free of charge the most important information you're ever going to get.
As a 30 something definitely I do
Dan's the man who got me interested in perhaps seeking a retirement in the lovely Southeast Asia areas. Dan if this does happen I will have to meet you and buy you whatever beverage you like. You are the man!
I absolutely agree He is a wealth of knowledge and has the experience of being there - not as a typical tourist or expat but one who adapts and accepts what is foreign to him. He's very diplomatic and personable. Never rude and very respectful to everyone. His travel mate is the icing on the cake. She is a very beautiful woman. Quite the Ambassador of Asia. I've never seen a 6' Asian woman. Blessings to you both...
Visited Forest Camp on 6 July. Really liked that place Paul.
What a fun interview to watch….THANKS PAUL 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Great interview. Dan is great and I think you two together were something special.
Dan is so intelligent. I'm a little surprised he had such an unconventional career, but he seems like a guy who could always figure out the angles. His is my favorite ex pat channel.
Dear Paul, love your positive videos, bringing honest conversations to crazy people like me.
Stay strong and I wish endless blessings upon you thru Christ’s endless LOVE.
Maybe I’ll pass thru someday.
Vaya Con Dios!
This was a nice interview
I like vagabond s channel
Positive and upbeat
You have a good life !
And im here in chicago chasing life ! goodness ! time to go home !
Always great to see someone build their own success. Huge respect for him.
Hello brother I just saw you on Dans channel and really enjoyed your interview so I popped over to your channel. I like the videos where a couple of Americans get together and give advice.
The two guys I love and have learned so much from their CZcams videos for years. 😂❤🎉and because of all the things I have learned from them I found me a great girl. Dan! Paul! - Paul! Dan! Love you guys.
Thanks!
Thank you Jason
(Verse 1)
In Dumaguete where the stray dogs bark,
And the rooster’s crow ignites the start,
There’s a magic in the air, a place to be,
Where the city’s heartbeat sets us free.
(Chorus)
Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive,
Underneath the sun, we will thrive,
From the shores to the mountains high,
Our spirits soar, reaching the sky.
(Verse 2)
Down the boulevard, the palm trees sway,
As we wander through each vibrant day,
Friendly faces, warm smiles so wide,
In Dumaguete, love’s a constant tide.
(Chorus)
Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive,
Underneath the sun, we will thrive,
From the shores to the mountains high,
Our spirits soar, reaching the sky.
(Bridge)
From Silliman’s halls to the old bell tower,
Every corner holds a story’s power,
The sound of laughter fills the streets,
A symphony of life that never retreats.
(Verse 3)
Where the stray dogs bark and the rooster’s crow,
We find solace in this charming flow,
Dumaguete, a tapestry so diverse,
Unveiling beauty in every verse.
(Chorus)
Oh, Dumaguete, where dreams come alive,
Underneath the sun, we will thrive,
From the shores to the mountains high,
Our spirits soar, reaching the sky.
(Outro)
In Dumaguete’s embrace, we find our home,
United by a spirit that will never roam,
Forever bound, our love will grow,
In Dumaguete’s heart, we’ll always glow.
This is beautiful ❤
@@jle8148 glad you liked it now do a video singing it.
I saw your video Paul and your retirement mathematics had gone a long way with fulfillment I believe. It's really the choice and taking the risks. You're inspiring a lot. More fun ahead to both of you 😊
Excellent
Excellent
Good video guys . Paul said he had the same goal of a million by 30 but had $30.00 at 40 !!! Hahaha. God Bless !!!
Great interview
Vagabond has a good channel and a positive, upbeat attitude
Thank you !
A great day to both of you :-)
Thank you! You too!
I have enjoyed watching Dan's CZcams channel for quite awhile now.
My two favorites together 😊
Great interview video!
Great interview Paul and best of luck to your friend!
Wow, what an encyclopedia of travel knowledge. That’s an amazing interview. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Paul! Great interview! I've been watching Dan for several years off and on and never knew his story. Very informative and entertaining! Thanks!
Awesome post. Such wise information. Always a sub on Vagabond
Nice, Dan thought the Old Dog a new trick on how to point to the next video.
The point relating to being able to reinvent yourself or become your true self in another country, is so understated and yet so liberating.
tough listen. love the channel
He reminds me of itchy boots riding her motorcycle around different countries.
That was excellent, one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve watched!!! Thanks to the both of you!!!😊
Our pleasure!
I like this guy! Bright fellow!👍
Blessings to the both of you! 🙏❤
I want to be like you when I grow up... well I'm getting a late start - I was born in 1955'! Go ahead and chuckle, or I should say "" feel free to join me" for a good laugh. I'm in transition as we speak and I'm putting on my Big Boy pants and on the move. I'm now labeled a expat from the good ol' USA, California to be more specific. Watching Paul and David are inspirational and have helped me make sense of things. They've also helped me to make some gut changes that I've been on the fence about. Kudos to you both for you charitable insights that may help others.
Sometimes you have to not overthink things just get out and explore and experience things.
You're probably sickness hearing it but gotta tell you, Paul your volume was way lower than Vagabonds. I had to have it so loud to hear you. My neighbors understood though. Great collaboration! 👍🏼
The ONLY reason I went to college was to collect on the GI Bill...accidentally stayed in too long and graduated. 8)
Good interview I actually been following Dan for years 😊
That's an awesome interview and an awesome video Paul.. I've been a subscriber to vagabond awake for as long as I have subscribed to your channel and Dan and Chaing have been inspirational to me as well as you... Throughout the entire video I've have had a smile on my face through this whole interview I enjoyed every second of it‼️thank you my friends.. I truthfully say I hope to meet you all one-day soon... 🙏🏻💛🍀
p. s. I've been following both of your channel since September or October of 2018... 🎉
Thanks for the interview,Paul.

You and Dan are my two favorites! Glad you could connect. Thank you!
Two contrasting styles and it all meshed together pretty well. Enjoyed it, it really worked.
Dan and Qiang some real down to earth people , met them last year up here in Pampanga
Love Dan’s channel. A pure hearted soul and such a great channel!
Dan looks great for 63. Pretty detailed difficult job he has
Great stuff. I just watched both of your interviews of each other and could identify with both. Paul who was from Las Vegas (who I hope to meet) who I always enjoy watching and Dan who I have met 4 times in Mexico and Bali. Both have played a large part in my inspired travels these last 3 years +. Just so very down to earth and motivating. Hoping to get to Dumaguete in the next few weeks to meet both.
Such excellent interviews.
Having lived in Bali for two years before now living in the Philippine I agree that Ubud Bali is hard to beat. I had two glorious montgs there in 2021 during covid.
Wonderful stuff guys! I am in Mindoro island- Philppines now and it is awesome here in Puerto Galera.
Paul you truly an exemplary interviewer. Absolute natural skills. Thank you for your videos.
Great interview Paul & Dan. I have traveled quite a bit, not as much as Dan, but I can confirm most of what he says. He took the life lessons his mother was giving him and a life for himself. Congratulations because he is now comfortable and doing what he loves best and that is what you aim to do in retirement. Best wishes to Dan and his lady.
Thank you Paul for a very interesting guest and asking very good questions. Looking forward to your trip to Kuala Lumpur with Baby Mae💖
Dan and Chung are a cool couple. Love their content. Good interview Paul!
I hope the ladies had a good time during the interview. They both have contributed to the success of their men. Kudos to the girls also!
Nice to here acknowledgement that the lifestyle you both enjoy now was enabled by where you were born. Slow travel and enjoying a comfortable lifestyle in a low cost economy is a luxury that, in the majority, is affordable to those who come from wealthy, developed countries like the U.S. with generous social security systems or enable significant wealth accumulation in a strong currency. So tired of the "retire early" types on YT who live in less developed countries like the Philippines or Indonesia (Bali in particular) promoting their lifestyle as if anyone and everyone anywhere can just quit their job and live a minimalist lifestyle in such countries surrounded by people living on the edge of poverty.
Two of my favorite CZcamsrs, together finally.

I’ve found a PERFECT video/interview that really related to my life/thinking. Thanks Paul. I can’t wait to swim across the pond to Vietnam/Philippines/Thailand soon in one piece without sharks stealing my my body parts while swimming.
Great vlog Paul. Dan / Vagabond Awake is a great resource of information for those who are traveling for a visit or looking to retire and relocate. Time to watch his interview with you!
Great interview,
Very informative 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
I started watching both your channels in March of 2020. I knew you two would have great chemistry together. Matter of fact, I asked you in 2020 (The last time Dan was in Duma) if you guys met. Of course you said no.
Dan is the man and Paul Ur awesome as well !!!
Enjoy watching you too guys!! Have fun.
Paul - Excellent Video !! I have watched Dan for years and I enjoyed hearing him in a more relaxed and unscripted environment. You 2 guys would be fun to hang out with sometime !!
Love both of you guys. What a great interview.
Dan’s a great knowledgeable person. Been following them for a long time
