The University of Oslo: Blindern Campus Guide

- A guided tour of Blindern, the campus of the University of Oslo, Norway.
Blindern is the main campus of the University of Oslo (UiO), and it's located at the west side of Oslo. It houses the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Educational Sciences.
The campus area is well connected by public transportation. The metro has two stops on campus, Blindern and Forskningsparken (Oslo Science Park). The tram also has two stops at the north of Blindern, and there are bus lines close by.
00:00 Frederikkeplassen (the Frederikke Place) is the main square of Blindern campus. By the square is a building housing the university bookstore, and a medical center for students. Also here is the main facility building of Blindern campus, it's called Frederikke. Frederikke houses a large cantine and several other food venues. There is also a career center, a pub, a gym, a hair dresser, and a grocery shop.
01:39 The main university library is located between Frederikkeplassen and the physics building to the south of Blindern. Apart from 3.6M books, this modern library has a café, a canteen, and lots of study places and reading rooms.
02:00 The physics building is one of oldest and nicest buildings on Blindern. It consists of a tower building with east and west wings. In the lobby of the physics building is a large Foucault pendulum, which demonstrates the rotation of the Earth. As the day passes, the swing direction of the pendulum will change, because the swinging pendulum remains fixed relative the rest of the universe, while the earth rotates.
02:59 Villa Eika is where the student parliament is located. I have noe idea what they do in there.
03:12 Dana Bakeri is the Turkish bakery located at the north of Blindern, underneath Forskningsparken metro stop. This is what kept me alive during my years at Blindern. They have great tasting, inexpensive food. Much better than the university canteens. Chicken and bulgur, Turkish meatballs, döner kebab, and my personal favorite, börek. This place is so good!
03:34 Domus Athletica is a large sporting facilities at the north of Blindern. It has outdoor and indoor fields, an Olympic sized swimming pool, and a very good gym. Access is priced at 169 NOK per month for students, as of 2016.
04:07 The informatics building is where I gained my master's degree. It's a large, modern building, and there is a student Pub/café.
04:26 Blindern Studenthjem (Blindern Student Home) is an on-campus dormitory where meals are included.
05:00 Chateau Neuf is the Norwegian student society. It's located south of Blindern, closer to Majorstuen. The University was planned to be extended in this direction, but that never happened. Therefore, the student society is located slightly off campus. Inside, there are several bars and cafes, and a lecture room which doubles as a cinema. The student radio is also located in Chateau Neuf.
i love how he cracks a joke yet his face is very flat though
I'm literally eating a kebab from the Turkish bakery mentioned at 3:15 right now. Don't make the mistake I did and wait an entire semester before going there. Absolutely the best place to eat on or near campus.

Very informative, through, and educationsl as well as comprehensive. Thank you.

Hi ! may I ask, do you know how much does it cost to stay at Blindern Dormitory?
Also, how much does a typical student normally spends monthly at Oslo?
thinking about joining this university for a summer class mainly to learn the Norwegian language and culture. this has been very informative. Very much appreciated, thanks !
great video man! you mentioned spending $27,000. was this for your education or living expenses? isn't tuition free in norway?
That was just for the living expenses. Things like rent, books, food, and beer. Tuition was free for me, but I don't know about foreign students. I'm really no expert on these things, but there is information on their website: www.uio.no/english/
OsloPro thanks! yeah dont forget beer! ☺🍺 will check that site out. cheers!
Kjempe bra video! Thanks for sharing :)
Hi atlas💕💖
great video man. just a question do u have any idea how much is the costs of the university of oslo
The tuition fee is almost nothing, but cost of living in Norway is high. The University estimates that you need 10,000 NOK per month. www.uio.no/english/student-life/budget/index.html
I think that would leave very little money for fun activities, but I guess it's possible. I spent a lot more. Fortunately I had a part-time job.
thank u bro iam interested in Software engineering so in the year would it cost more than 25000$ because really norway is great country and also it has a great nature and that is what i need .thank again
I checked my account, just for the hell of it. I spent about 27000$ (USD) each of my last years at UiO. That amount because it was all I could get my hands on :) I would think that you could live comfortably as a student in Norway for about 18000$. Some spend less, but if you like eating out and drinking, yeah..
thank u very much and wish to see you there one day 😉lol
@@OsloProJonas Please how much is the dormitory per month and also how fast can i get a job to get additional money as a masters student.. I also want to know how much i can make a year when i do part time job as a masters student.. Thank you
How minimum wages per hour in oslo? Infrom me kindly.
Thanks for the upload Jonas. I'm glad I'm no longer a student though.
Tusen takk
Nice video man!

The ladys are Soooo!! GOOD LOOKING!! hows the vibe?
Brother I want to study MBA in Oslo University is it good
great for new comers!! :-)
good job bruh
lol. I love your humor. :)
Great video brother....I am from bangladesh and I want to study in the University as an international undergraduate....Can you please help??
+Oslopro what's your opinion on job scope in Norway for international students after masters in Oslo university. Especially who don't know Norwegian.
+fastravi Engineers have until recently been in high demand, I have no knowledge on other subjects. But Norway is in a small recession now because of the low oil price. Hundreds of engineers have been laid off just at the company I work in this year. Hard to tell about the future. Not speaking English isn't a problem.
I meant not speaking Norwegian isn't a problem, of course. :)
+OsloPro haha, I figured language part must be typo :) am thinking about taking either master's in computer science or an MBA.
I am thinking to go to Oslo Uni on exchange from Australia. Can you show me around? :)
+eduard1215 I wish I had the time, but I can't. I only have time to make videos during weekends, if the weather is nice. But don't worry, with your exotic accent other students will be dying to talk to you. Study groups or the Friday pubs on campus are great ways to meet people.
iam morrocan and i want to study in oslo university, can you help me please
Hi! I really don't know how that process works. Take a look at www.uio.no/english/studies/admission/ or you could drop them a mail at international@admin.uio.no with your questions. Good luck bro.
If I want to use gym, will there be a trainer available at the gym??
Not normally, but they can be rented, starting at 450/hour: www.sio.no/en/sports/personal-training-and-guidance/prices
The group training/ circle training classes are included though.
+OsloPro ok thanks!!
Is it possible to eat at thé canteen even if you’re not a student ?
Yes. It's supposed to cost more then, but they almost never ask. If they do ask and, just say yes. It's not very strict.
Yes, I did it!
hello brother. nice video . can you please tell me is it true norway government issue 6 months job search visa after doing masters degree ?? if yes then is it possible to get a job with in 6 months ??? please guide me i am planning to do masters from there but only this 6 months job search visa changes my mind ??
Hi! I tried to search the docs, but as you can see the law is complicated www.udiregelverk.no/en/documents/udi-circulars/rs-2010-101/
When I graduated I was officially a student for a few more months. I would guess that the visa is still valid then, but who knows for how long. If you could get a job depends highly on what industry you are in, preferably engineering. Norway is in a small recession right now because of the low oil prices. Hard to tell what the situation will be a few years from now.
that campus looks lonely tho
It was the day before summer vacation. Most students already done with exams.
Hi Domus medica, how long far from there to walk
That's gonna take about 15-20 minutes from the Blindern main square or Blindern Student Home, or 10-15 minutes from Domus Athletica or Vestgrensa Student Housing. Domus Medica is located slightly off campus, on the other side of the motorway (Ring 3).
is there car parking possible inside the campus? as soon as will go there..
Yes, there are some parking spots at Blindern. The largest is above Blindern Student Home in Problemveien, and it costs 12 NOK/hour. Some info on the UiO website: www.uio.no/english/about/maps/parking/index.html
There are also some street parking around Blindern which is free, but it can be hard to find, and you would have to know the rules for street parking in Norway.
Best
The lessons are english ??
Only master's level
Tell us about your lifting routine. Your guns
Happy to hear they have samosas in bakery
Damn we Indians are everywhere 😂
so i gather from this short clip that you went to the university, you hated studying, you got an STD check but refused the condoms....what else. oh, we are only 3:33 in! there should be more!
You are so handsome to just dress like that in Norway.
Hi friend💕❤
would have been a bit nicer with sound track ;)
😭😭😭😭😭
