      In the domino turnover, stop near the center and ask your spectator to place her finger near yours. Go back and forth slowly a couple times so she gets the feel of the crest. Then take your finger off altogether and let her do it by herself. You will of course need a really good mat.
      At a table with four women, each will want to do it, and I can stretch this one routine out to ten minutes when I expect the tip will warrant the time.
      (:

    Damn that advise about not doing this on an hard table, really was true. I was out here trying to do the domino turnover on the table, for like half an hour, making a fool out of myself. Now I tried it with a blanket on top, and I finally got it. Thank you very much for the explanation, btw I'm still a beginner and your videos really helped me to get some of the basics of card magic, that most tutorials out there do not bother to explain!

    One of my favorite variation of a domino turnover: instead of running a finger or card along the crest of the cards, you can give a quick flick to the start of the ribbon spread, if you give it just enough force, it will carry all the way through to the other side. I like to keep my hand on that side to let it fall into my hand for effect.

    I just recently found your page. At 70yrs old I decided to tinker with something I've always wanted to learn. Problem was life got in the way(Nam, wife, job, kids, two jobs and night school. Blah blah blah) anyway. I've followed several people on magic(whom shall remain nameless) and come to the conclusion that you aren't selling your personality, but you are genuinely wanting to help anyone who wants to learn. Granted you're a little cocky(and rightfully so, you earned it), but you put it out of the way to teach. I have a slight dexterity problem from a "gift" I received overseas. I want to know before I sign up for your course. Am I wasting my time trying to learn this at my age and physical limits(left hand works with all digits, just a little slow) I don't expect to be the next big headliner. Just some ole gizzer to perform in children's ward or at a VA hospital. An honest answer would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @DanielRoyMagic
      @DanielRoyMagic  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey there, thanks for the kind words! Regarding age and limitations, I honestly don't think either of those will hold you back -- I've taught students of all levels and ages, and in my experience, diligent and focused practice always results in progress. Sure, you may have to find ways of working around certain physical limitations, but to some extent, everyone learning magic has to do that, since so much of magic is adapting what you learn to fit your own hands, your own personality, etc. If you have more questions, feel free to get in touch on my website. :)

    Hi Daniel, you probably won't see this, but if you happen to, how do I spread the cards effectively with an older deck which may have a lot of friction and stickier cards? Thanks

    • @DanielRoyMagic
      @DanielRoyMagic  Před 2 lety

      If the "stickiness" is even between all the cards, for an in-the-hands spread, try using more or less downward pressure from the right hand (and upward pressure from the left hand). You might find a pressure "balance" that works. Otherwise, the cards just might be too beat up. If you're using a table, the table surface matters a lot. You want a soft surface, ideally. Try varying the downward pressure from the right hand and see if you can find an ideal amount.
