The nod from teller when joe said “I worked hard” thats some SERIOUS respect
Lucky for Joe they didn't ask to examine his pants :)
Great trick
Joe performed a private show for my company a little over 20 years ago - I was amazed by his talent with close-up magic. He was performing for a lot of engineers who KNEW is was sleight of hand but enjoyed it so much because they just couldn't catch him doing it. Joe also has really big hands which would seem to make it even harder. Anyway, he provided me an invite to the Magic Castle in Hollywood which really impressed my date. We had a spectacular time and never forgot what a great guy he was.
Joe is definitely a class act. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story!
Thank you so much for your kind words …actually having big hands I think makes it a tiny bit easier but don’t tell it to the other engineers :-) happiest of holidays my friend hope to see you again
U are a lucky and fortunate guy for that experience
I know how this is done. It’s a beautiful trick I won’t spoil. I saw the move twice.
I love how P and T trying taking a guess and failing sometimes makes the trick so much better. Knowing he finished clean just took the trick to a whole new level. I went from having a few guesses to having ZERO idea how it's done.
Too lazy to type Penn and teller
@@username7258 typing "P & T" is objectively cooler than typing "Penn and Teller"
It has something to do wit his pants.
I couldn't figure it out. I thought he was using gimmicked cards, I'm assuming the Archilles Heel reference had something to do with it, i.e., the ace had a 2 of clubs sign in one corner, and the 2 had an ace of diamonds sign in one corner. He's careful to only show 3/4 of each card and he obscures the corners with his arm when showing the cards. However, at the end the cards are fully shown, showing no gimmicked corners. So I can only think the Monti Move, tucking it in his pants, removed a corner overlay as the last insertion is much deeper and there's an extra hand pat on his pants after the move. Similarly, placing the Ace in the box removed an overlay, or prepped for removal, so withdrawing it left the overlay inside the box. The cards had to be clean by the end of the trick or Penn/Teller would have seen something.
He usually seems to use gimmicked cards and I think he fooled them by changing his MO. He was always so carefully covering the corners of the 2 and the ace. So Joe knew they would know how it's usually done (he actually used to sell this trick) and double-bluffed them, either with a fourth card or a gimmicked case I would think.
czcams.com/video/-BDcr-99fdo/video.html
I thought they were those gimmick cards where two stick together to look like one because at 4:15 it looked like he gripped too hard and spread them apart a little bit in the corner. But surely Penn and Teller would have caught that when they examined them. I’m stumped
Yep you’re right. You use those cards because they all have a lot of white space along the edges. So really all you need to fake the two of diamonds is something on the corner. This can be attached and lined up with the corner on one of the two other cards because you have the back design printed on it and during the shuffle you just stack it appropriately.
But how does this corner overlay keep disappearing…well that’s why you stick the cards in your pants. Down the front of the pants it goes!
You can notice that when he is doing the three card shuffle he tends to have a gap when mixing some cards. Likely to avoid sticking it to the wrong card.
I like Joe! Such a great personality and emotionally involved in his act and his win. Congrats 😊
He has such an amazing personality and showmanship. This was just brilliant
So happy for Joe! I tear up every time I watch this!
Definitely a big win for the Monti man!
He didn’t fool me, this guy ain’t no magician…he’s a wizard. 👏👏👏
Is not about how many times you fell, but how many times you get up. Your act is AWESOME. AWESOME
Noticed the CW ad for Fboy Island at the end of the clip when he gets the trophy. LMFAO! 🤣
😅😂😂
great performance.. Joe really has a magnetic personality
Nice job Joe! And congrats on the trophy! You have paid you dues, and you earned ever bit of that award!❤
You can really tell this guy has been performing on the street, I thought especially by the way he talked to Brooke. He didn't stop at the trick, he has an instinct to connect with people so he's talking about shoes, complimenting Brooke's outfit. In a couple sentences Brooke is already touching him and saying "We". That seems like a good way to not get beaten up 😂
Don't forget the ultimate victory her stating: "I like him, he's such a nice guy, don't be too harsh to him!" 😮
sometimes pen and teller know they are fooled, or they like the act little too much or they respect the magician a lot, that they just make a wild guess as a formality just to be wrong and give away the trophy. Very generous of them. For example, never ever that have gone up on stage to inspect something and actually found something that proved not a fooler.
So clever with the large cards - what a great routine, I really smiled throughout that act!
4:52 the ace is clearly the highest and leftmost, and he picks up that same card once the backs are facing to us, tucks the middle card in his pants and reveals the middle card to be the ace.
That to me is more magical than anything else because there wasn't even any evident sleight of hand. Nothing looked like it shifted. It just stopped being what it was.
The corner covers he used were dropped into the pants and into the case. Very simple. P&T should have asked to examine his case and down his draws. That's where the "magic" was finally contained (yeah, that's what she said).
@@TazTalksYouListen Sadly they asked to see the cards. Their guess was based on the cards themselves being gimmicked haha.
@@cragl3yman343- Exactly. Too bad. But probably good for the show and ratings.
this show ALWAYS puts a smile on my face and that is why I watch it
5:00 you got me!
Acted like a sneaky, fumbling, street magician, and did something miraculous.
Sublime!
I finally got it (i think) after a frame-by-frame.
There are actually 5 cards (A A 2 2 3). The way he's holding the cards keeps it so we only ever see 3 at a time, and when he places the cards back in the box before bowing, the extra cards get hidden there. So when P&T inspect at the end, only 3 cards are left out for them to look at.
i didn't watch it frame-by-frame, but i thought he was gripping things a little too tight
I’ve done dozens of Monte’s using the mis-indexed corners, so he suckered me right in!
That's a GREAT trick. Good job, Joe!
Yoo I LOVE THIS!! Amazing performance. I watched it twice and still am fooled on how he did the last trick. Thank you for sharing his video on your channel. Wow!
I was trying to figure it out from the start because I was sure there was no way he was just going to do a mispip monte. Fooled me.
That was absolutely amazing. What a wonderful trick. Blessings,Carlos ✝️🙏❤️😊🇺🇸
The end was mind boggling.. Congrats Joe
I teared up when I saw him tear up. Must have been the onions I cut yesterday. Delayed response. Great job! Great routine and you can tell, a great spirit when you see one! Way to go!!!
Wonderful act wonderful presentation and I'm deserved round of applause and trophy Great job Joe it was a pleasure to watch and was a pleasure to meet you in my shop years ago.
Now that Joe has performed his three card monte on T.V.. and has won for his performance. Which he truly deserves. Absolutely fabulous. Any chance that he will be marketing this routine for us magicians? As I’ve been doing the sidewalk shuffle for many years and would absolutely love to replace it with something so powerful. What a great effect.
brilliant trick well done !!
It had to be a magnetic corner piece that he had in his trousers.
He made sure the magnetic corner stayed in his pants at the end to end the trick wit clean cards.
Now, if Penn said something like "Can you perform the same trick wit different 👖?"
Then they would've had him there.
I'm surprised they didn't in fact think of that.
Or maybe they did, and they jus had to come to 1 solid guess.
Like, they aren't allowed to keep guessing 3, 4 & 5 times. Ik that from previous seasons. Lol
I immediately flashed on Run DMC when I saw those shoes. Nice touch.
Great! Also, Brook is doing a fabulous job. What a charismatic young lady.
We agree!
Congrats Joe you are AWESOME
8:04 I love their reaction as they were not expecting a "yes" at all.
I have a set of those jumbo cards and I got fooled by Joe's ending here. Very nice & congrats Joe!!
It was definitely the perfect twist to this classic that they never saw coming
Thank you
I don’t have the jumbo cards. I love traditional 3 card monte and sometimes throw in ultimate monte to really fool people. The fact that the audience would have no clue that it was ultimate monte, only P & T would and then he showed the entire card was amazing. Def wasn’t expecting that.
Joe Monti's FU win was the best I've EVER seen on Penn & Teller's Fool Us!
When he went 2 cards... he had a sticker on one card saying it was the ace..he really did put the ace in the holder. When the 2 cards went in his pants the sticker comes off. If u noticed he patted his belt line to make sure wasn't sticking out
Thanks for showing this one. I Kinda needed an -it's not over til- message,.this was a great one....And its a helluva great monte
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's easy to palm a card or do a lift with a small deck..This raises the bar though! GREAT trick...
A very cleaver twist on a Michael Skinner classic. Surprised the boys did catch it! Anyway well done!
Loved this so much, and let's not forget he fooled us all.
Loved it too. He didn't fool me... but I really didn't care, he was just so charismatic. I can't wait to see more of his act.
Brooke will find the gimmick in the green room.
Brillant act, well done on the Fool Us win!
That was a great trick. I can usually figure out card tricks but I have NO CLUE!
This is the best Monty I have ever seen. Even I kmow the Classic trick. Congrats
That was amazing. Way to go Joe Monti. Thanks, I like it a lot, Luke!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow.. OUTSTANDING
They should have asked to check his pants. The entire routine was obvious to me how it was done until the full card reveal at the end, but then it wasn't difficult to realize that he simply slid off the false corners into his pants and the card stand. Still well executed.
When he walked out I immediately noticed he walked kind of funny, like something was in is pant.
Nice routine! Skinner would be proud. And also the 2 other Grimaces.
Really likeable and entertaining! Go Joe!
At first I thought he might have been using flaps but, unless he did a clever switch, there is no way he used flaps because P&T examined the cards...
Brilliant. Spoiler below...
The cards are ordinary, just large. However, the Ace has a 2 stuck to one corner, and the 2 has an A stuck to one corner. During the final trick he slips the covers off, very deftly.
Beautiful reaction from Joe
Yes it was 🥰
It's the simple tricks that really make you feel something. That was amazing.
Do you know if he told P&T anything afterwards?
No idea how he finishes clean, but that's an impressive trick.
That was wild! I know the trick, but I didn't see the slip.
Pants
The trick was insane!
Great kicker ending.
I bet you're glad they didn't check the front of your pants for the extra piece 😂, very nice 🎉
He is JUST AMAZING.... Scammer...
Oops..🤭.i mean... MAGICIAN. 😅
😅😅
Joe Monti JoMamma'd Fooler wearing those classic Adidas and walked off that stage like its Christmastime in Hollis, Queens
Teller seems to agree that he's worked hard on this trick to earn the award.. but I think he realized the trick while examining the 2 C. Yes.. it was examinable.
I'm can't tell whether Teller realised. He didn't fool me... but who cares, what a great act and SO much personality.
Teller would have figured it out if he had looked in the box. 😊
"I worked hard", he says...
He was one of Criss Angel's consultant during Mindfreak days 😮🎉
figured out the gimmick (at least I think I did ) after a few slow motion watches , but still a nice effect.
Spotted it first time through, but only because when he went to two cards it was obvious what he'd reveal - and I thought, this is it - he has to ditch the gimmick now. And then he kinda telegraphed it by doing a couple of things differently during the 'monty move' ...
... but, if I didn't know that was going to be the last reveal, I'd probably not have been watching for it.
I think I'd ask Brooke to inspect something. We may need a curtain XD
Curtain for what?

Harry Anderson did the giant-card 3-card monty trick 35 years ago.
I rewatched and saw what he done very very clever
It is very cleverly done. They expected something else. I have an idea how it was done. Also, even the first time watching the video, I noticed a small detail. Re-watching it just confirmed my initial thoughts. If I am correct, than knowing how the trick is done does not substract anything from the performance. I enjoyed it a lot, it has great acting, smooth moves and smart humor. I guess Teller realized how it was done (differently thatn they thought) once he examined the one card he checked, while Penn was just furious because he expected to find something that was never there.
actually there's nothing on the cards as he ditched them in his pants for the last part of the trick
@@albertlwj No that's his penis.
Took a few seconds but can see how its done, for those that need a hint think about what you are seeing at 5:38 and take note of how they are being held and whats really there. He obviously knew that penn and teller would want to examine them at the end.
That pretty much gave it away.
I loved this!
Mindfreak only required "magic" consultants 😂
Wooow amazing
That number 2 card has an ace overlay and the ace card has a 2 overlay i did a similar trick years ago just for fun. The overlays can be removed with a little misdirection and sleight
Unless there was a video edit, I don't know how he did the ending showing all the cards without covering anything up. Great routine.
after watching it over again and going back to watch how he did it 20 years ago, finally figured out how he did it. but it was a darned good trick and live audiences aren't going to be able to watch you do it over and over again and will still be amazed like i was
Can you give me a hint? I thought about gimmicked cards… but they inspected it… and I didn’t see the slight of hands…
Nevermind I got it… hint: corners… and always think about: no move is random.
@@AmplifyChrisHint? OK - Why did he "TUCK" 2 cards in his pants? To remove a "sleeve" or 2?
Fantastic trick.
The Ministry of Magic called. The Aurora are looking for him.
I feel like one of the most important parts of the trick happened when they camera cut to P/T at 5:49
Fantastic, and very touching. Joe is man I would be proud to call a friend. But what I really want to know - as a former single Dad - is How is that little girl doing?
Never seen street games on the street. Ever!
What episode is the clip at 0:09 ?
Thats a big hustler right there ^^
An extra card or cards are concealed behind his back, so obvious as he never turns around during the performance.
I think I may have this one solved. 3 is the lead card and it 100% authentic. The other two cards are expertly layered to mirror eachother. Tucking the cards against his warm body changes the color with thermocromic ink. Letting the card sit on the stand gave it time to cool and change back.
A higher scientific power, yes. But what really happened is this. CGI TV with the whole crowd including pen and teller in on it.
Thermocromic ink has nothing to do with it. I think I figured it out, and it's 100% sleight of hand.
@@TheRavenCoder The trick is amazing. It's the one card that gets me. Though it was color changing. If it's sleight of hand, it's the best I've ever seen.
lol no
Wait (10:09), "Keeping secrets is not always the easiest thing for magicians?" I thought keeping secrets was a critical skill for a magician to have!
It is a critical skill but unfortunately these days more and more people would rather reveal the secrets online for money and views. It's been sad to see..
I had it all figured out....until he showed the cars at the end.
I would have expanded Penns question... can we examine, and are those the same cards you used in the act. Seems to me it would be a simple sleight of hand to swap them out at the end of the act (as he returned them to his stand).
Wowww 👏👏👏👏
Luke is such a fantastic communicator/podcaster and all around brilliant thinker, creator and phenomenal sleight of hand magician! Thank you Luke❤️
You're too kind my friend. Congrats on the big WIN! -Luke
You know how it is done till the end and then boom
How does it even work😢😢
Wild right?!?
Penn is really putting the weight back on.
If you freeze the screen around 4:14-4:15 you can see there is a card hiding behind the two of clubs. (I think?)
Almost, but nope, that's not what you're seeing.
Great act but kinda obvious how he did it right? 🤔 im a little surprised they didnt catch it tbh.
The link doesn't work for more Fool Us episodes. Somehow it was truncated.
nice trick, but Im kinda surprised this fooled them, for me (final part) it seems like fake card corner (ace) which is put on the black card and which he later on hide in his pants. I might be also completely wrong, but thats how I would do this.
I kinda know how its done.
Nice performance though...
👍
theres a mixture of 2 things happening here ,,, at least... hes turning the cards upside down , to show the opposite corner ,,, thats fine .. but the last trick wipes them somehow ... ill keep thinking
I followed along with his act, with the benefit of slow motion replay of course. Flawless performance, Magic isnt about the trick, we all know how its done these days, its about the showmanship and performance.... 11/10, well done to him.
