      @@matfsouza1303 Penn & Teller have inside knowledge about sexism in the field of magic that goes to a level that is more sinister than they will discuss in public. I don't know know the details. But from some little snippets of things they've said I think this is more than just some kind of affirmative action. I think they've found some sexism that is really bad and I think they hold a grudge about it, taking it personally because they love magic and they love their families and their families include females, and whatever it is that's going on besmirches both magic and females (and therefore males who love magic and females). I saw a 13-year-old female on this show whose technique was so obvious that P&T winked at each other when they both saw the giveaway at the same time halfway through. But they don't care. They're just bound and determined to make females in magic to become a normal thing like it is in acting or pop music singing.
      Yeah, I know they used to cause the de'ath of one showgirl every night in one of their shows (it appeared to be the same showgirl each night?), when that buzz saw, or whatever, that pin. But she doesn't count because she wasn't a magician. And it's not discriminatory because Penn has killed Teller HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of times in that phone-booth full of water. I mean, were I Teller, I'd have quit after being k'illed maybe a dozen times. But I don't have as much loyalty as Teller has. You have to admire sticking with a business-partner who has k'illed you so often.

      @jaykay3071 - And there's things that the fingers of Lau's left hand are doing that are complete abnormal for blowing up a balloon. They're perfectly normal for pushing something up a nostril, although it's so well done you don't see the coin being pushed but see only the fingers pushing it. This is at 12:41.

    • @rynmxy
      @rynmxy Před 11 dny +2

      I had no idea how this trick was done until I saw your comment. But now I may have figured it out:
      It looks like there were two coins- one with the initials and one with the smiley face (notice how it's always flipped carefully). The coins are separated at the initial hand off, with Lau palming the smiley face while Peel puts the signed one on display. Lau stuffs the smiley face up his nose during the balloon sequence. After Peel puts the signed coin into the slingshot, he then palms it before the shot is taken- not sure if the gloves are involved here or if they're just a distraction. After the shot, Peel hands Lau the forceps with one hand and the signed coin with the other hand. Lau keeps it in his left hand and you can see him flip the smiley face coin from his nose onto the signed coin in his hand, and you can hear the coins clink together. I could definitely be wrong- I'm not a magician or anything. But, that's my best guess

    They did NOT fool them. If you watch at 14:21 the guy handed Peel the real signed coin. When Penn asked Brooke to inspect the coin, Peel pulled out the real one that was handed to him and not the duplicate. The producers should've told Penn and not allowed them to be lied to because the magicians have to tell the secret to the producers. Penn and Teller got it right, the coin was duplicated, the smiley face was, which is the only side you see being pulled out of the nose.

      Ravenbones: I think I agree with you alot, but I also agree with mynick's assertion that there are suspicious moves with Lau's left-hand fingers near Lau's nose at time of blowing up red balloon, that simply don't look like anything other than putting a coin up the nose (although it's so well done we only see the fingers pushing, and never see the coin that is being pushed). I think two coins are involved, and that means that somehow some ROUGH copy of Brooke's marks are made onto one of the other 2-Rand coins. At 12:41 we see Lau's fingers pushing either the dupe or the true coin up his nose. Whichever coin (true or dupe) that is, the other one (dupe or true, respectively) is in Peel's slingshot. If Lau's nose holds the dupe, the need for it to have a rough copy of Brooke's marks explains why Lau didn't put a coin there backstage before walking on: any coin up his nose as at the beginning of the trick could not have the rough copies of the marks that weren't created yet. Soon after Peel shows the cameras for the last time that a coin (either the true or the dupe with roughly-matching marks) IS in the slingshot, we get to 13:37 and Peel wipes under his nose with a latex-coated finger. The business of Lau TALKING while he makes the "X" chalk-mark on the glass pane is to draw attention away from the fact that Peel is NOT talking at that time, because while Peel is moving a coin from slingshot to glove to mouth he CAN'T talk. The silence would be suspicious but for Lau's monologue about safety. Peel could well be moving the coin into his mouth at that point. We never see a coin on his side AFTER that nose-wiping. And it's doubly suspicious because he'd be aware that Teller (maybe Penn too) would have eyes on his hands constantly to see if there's any movement that could be a coin leaving that slingshot by any manner other than airborne. What we would expect then is that there would be NO WAY Peel would ever move his hands after showing the coin securely in the slingshot for the last time, even if he did feel an itch under his nose, because he'd be aware that such a move could be suspicious. If the coin that Peel moves to his mouth is the dupe, then there's never going to be a problem getting it out of his mouth. He can keep it there until they walk off stage, or he can even swallow it. The glass pane is broken either by some rigging or by another slug of glass launched from the slingshot. That glass slug will just fall to the floor with the pieces of broken pane, from which it will be indistinguishable. So there's no need to devise how to get the coin from the air to any place it needs to be, because there's never any coin IN the air. If the coin up Lau's nose at red-balloon-inflation is the fake one, and the coin in Peel's mouth is the real one, it has to be transferred to Lau, and this is done at 14:21, when Peel's left hand is putting the pliers in Lau's right hand. Peel's right arm and shoulder are snugly up against Lau's left arm and shoulder at that point, and it would be trivially easy for Peel to drop anything into Lau's left-hand coat-pocket. How the coin got from Peel's mouth (where it went at 13:37 when Peel wiped his nose) to Peel's right hand is anyone's guess, since Peel is off-camera for a lot more time than would be necessary to move the coin from Peel's mouth to Peel's hands. If the true coin was the one Lau put up his nose while inflating the red balloon at 12:41, then that is the one that he showed to Brooke and which she verified was the true coin. But if the true coin was transferred to Lau's coat-pocket by Peel at 14:21, then Lau just got that same coin out of the coat-pocket where Peel had dropped it and showed THAT to Brooke and she vouched for it.

    • @topherthe11th23
      @topherthe11th23 Před 16 dny +1

      Topher The11th: I'm going to contradict something I typed. It's entirely possible that rather than a mechanism for making a dupe coin, it IS two coins. 17:26 sure looks like a stack of two coins to me. But I have the advantage of a camera angle (and camera-zoom) that Brooke didn't have. However, this is weird. If Penn had ask them to HAND over the "the coin" to Brooke for inspection, surely she'd have noticed it was too coins. So, in this theory, there is no duping of the coins' marks onto another coin, but, rather, you have ONE coin with the initials on it and ONE coin with the other side's marks on it, and both are in Brooke's original handwriting, but they use the different sides of the coin for different authentications as needed. ANY coin thus seen as authentic would reveal some trickery if only its other side were examined and found blank.
