Why are there two different types of control arms for this car?
Whenever Iâm working in a project, itâs always a lifesaver to see 1a made a video on it. Probably never would have started working on cars if it wasnât for your easy to follow and concise tutorials

Some people laugh but using information from CZcams can definitely help. Definitely got me through some jobs and I'm not exactly a rookie at this lol.
Again - very clear instructions with camera angles that permit the viewer to see what is being done. Thank you.
+David Robins Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
I have this car, not as nice, but I watch these videos to help fix mine. I have no mechanical knowledge at all, but u guys help me be great. A shop charged me $150 just for the labor doing this on one side. Thank u so much for saving me another $150 đđŸ

I swear I love y'all lol. I love working on my car myself
This video just saved me 200$ in labor thanks
If people are having a difficult time removing control arm bolts due to the strut being in the way, try this:
1) Disconnect the sway bar end link (connected to strut)
2) Remove top (3) nuts that hold top of strut on
3) Use a pry bar to pry strut down just enough to move it out of the way.
Good luck.
+Steve Jacobson Thank you for the added tip! Have a great day. 1aauto.com
Exactly right on man! Found out the hard way after struggling for an hour, I just don't see how you can pull the bolts out without moving the strutđ€· Not possible!
Great videos but this job was much more difficult than expected but the prices for the great quality of parts you provide are so much appreciated.
I think the Hemi spring is a bit wider because we had to remove the strut to get the bolts out with the tabs on the end. Otherwise the spring was in the way. There was no other option. The V6 spring might be more narrow so thatâs why it works in this video without having to remove the strut.
I went through the same exact thing with my 05 Magnum RT...đ
@@d.p.trippy3262 One side for my Daytona R/T 2006 was fine, the other side was a major pain and included some cussing.
Hi I just installed my upper control arms and
My strut assembly all at
The same time, thanks to you my 05 chysler 300 is riding smooth again. A1 youâre the best

Excellent video, I love all the 1A-Auto videos and am very thankful. I just replaced the upper control arms on my 2005 Dodge Magnum 3.5L and there are three things I learned that I feel would be helpful for someone looking to perform this on an LX platform car (300, Charger, Magnum) after watching this vid:
1. As mentioned in other comments, the springs in the strut assembly could likely be in the way for removing the bolts holding the control arm into the chassis (4min 10sec). This requires at least partially removing the strut assembly. It was kinda annoying realizing it was necessary but not difficult. There's another great 1A-Auto video for replacing the strut assembly.
2. At 3min 4sec you can see the guy using a ratchet with an adjustable handle to remove the passenger/rearward nut on the strut tower. I'm willing to say that such a ratchet is required. Maybe it's possible to get a combo wrench on that nut or something else but I don't think there's enough room for it to be practical. I also do not feel confident that I got 55 ft-lbs of torque on that nut when tightening with my adjustable-handle ratchet. Yes, you could remove a bunch of stuff as said in the video to more easily access this nut, but it looks like a lot of stuff to remove to me.
3. This last one was a big deal for me and almost a dead-end. No amount of hammering dislodged either driver or passenger upper ball joint for me. Not even close. I used plenty of penetrating oil, swung hard, 4lb hammer, lots of different angles. No dice. If you're replacing your upper control arms, it's likely that they've been on there a while and this isn't going to be enough. It's also very easy to accidentally hit the threading, so, using a hammer to not destroy the ball-joint's boot is kind of a moot point. On the driver side, a pickle fork worked. On the passenger side, the pickle fork actually started to take the ball out of the socket. If you're replacing your upper control arms, it's likely because one of the upper ball joints is failing, like this one was. There was too much play in the joint and consequently it was too easy for the ball to come out of the socket. I ultimately used this: shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/autocraft-ball-joint-separator-ac3430/10449277-P?searchTerm=ball+joint+seperator Maybe A1-Auto sells one. I would say they should put an annotation in the vid with a link if they do. It worked perfectly. I laughed out loud when I saw how easily it worked. It would have saved me a TON of time and worrying. (I guess heat could be used as well to aid joint separation but I feel that's beyond the scope of this level of tutorial)
Again, great video. I love that it's concise and not trying to be entertaining. Very helpful.
+John Sherrill Thank you for checking us out, as well as all of the feedback. This will certainly be useful to other viewers attempting to perform this replacement. We hope to work with you again! 1aauto.com
The video was very helpful but you're lucky if it's this easy on your car đ Check to see if the bolts holding in the control arm will clear the suspension coil first then decide if you still want to do this yourself. They didn't on mine and I had to take the whole strut assembly out. Still got it done and saved some money, just a warning. And if it's an 05 and hasn't been taken out before, make sure you have a blow torch and a ball joint fork!!
I really look back and enjoy your videos for the Chrysler 300s is there any way you can still make Chrysler 300 videos .
It also the same as the charger and challenger 06-10 just in case someone doesnât know
+Jaime Correa Thanks for checking us out and the added tip! Have a great day. 1aauto.com
And the Magnum
@@toastedasf4001 thanks for checking us out and the added tip have a great decade
How do you make taking them two bolts out up top look easy? I had to loosen the strut to get mine out.
Great job, I really enjoy putting things together, ive done my own transmission repair and it isn't hard, i find it enjoyable. I wish i had all the tools though and a bit more space, maybe one day ill open up a garage!
I just changed the passenger side. Of course I dropped the nut off the inside bolt, it was a real effaroo finding that. Other than the inside bolt it really isn't that hard of a job. Thanks for the video.
Wow. That's extremely easy. I know what I'll be doing today
+Elemeno Thank you!
Just did this on my 300c today. The video helped out alot but i replaced my strut and springs recently. Did have to pull the struts out be cause the aftermarket spring had tighter coils and would not allow the captive bolts out.
+Kevin Smith Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
I've watched a few different videos on this the say you have to remove the strut...is this not true?
thank you guys for the info
+Charlie James Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
great job, very helpful, this guy is very good
Like how he acknowledged his error
+ken g Thanks for the feedback!

1A Auto Parts you say put partial weight of car on tires .... but then you said make sure you tighten the nuts at ride height isn't that with all the weight on the tire
You are amazing to create these videos! Thank you so much âïž
The springs in charger are in the way even with this method , i got one out , , i wiggled it like you said and held it flat , and it was hell. I had to compress the spring to get it out .
You guys are awesome!!! Love the content and ok you guys do!! Stay great!
My bolt just keep spinning and doesn't come down the thread for the upper control arm... any advicw
1aauto, the best. đ
Very informative video. Good job
+doombeast45 Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com
Awesome video. Very educational. Thank you.
+Earl Anderson Thank you for your positive feedback! We are happy we could help.
What if the upper control arm stud free spins when you try and put the nut back on
Use a pry bar to push down on the top of the control arm to keep pressure on it while tightening it
Was almost as easy as you said it was, Until we hit the captured bolts. Because of the struts coil being in the way we couldn't move the bolts far enough to remove them and we didn't have the appropriate tools or know how to remove the strut so had to bring it to resemble and take it to a shop anyways. Close but no cake.
Justin removing the strut just disconnect the the 3 nuts up top and if need be the 2 bolts running through the a-frame at the bottom
I ran into this myself. The solution is to unbolt the 3 nuts on the top of the strut under the plastic cap. This give enough room to get them out.
I was told its nesseary to do both right and left at the same time but my one side seems pretty tight. Is it nesseary to do both?
+Martial 3231 It is suggested to replace suspension components in pairs to keep even wear on tires and other components, however, not a requirement. 1aauto.com
Thank you so much for this video It helped me very much. But BE AWARE YOU MAY HAVE TO ADJUST STRUT HEIGHT LIKE I DID BECAUSE THE SPRINGS WERE IN THE WAY OF THE 2 PINS YOU PULL OUT THAT HOLD THE CONTROL ARM.
I can't seem to pull the pins out because the spring is stopping it from coming all the way out. How do I go about this? I don't think I can remove the struts. Or can I to move it abit so I can pull out the pins?
The rear 18mm bolt on my passenger side is buried under wiring and is pretty tight to the firewall. I'm sure there's a way to get it, but damn if it isn't a tight space to work in.
for some reason there is not enough soace between my strut and bokt to pull them out đ€Ź
anybody have any suggestions. mines is a 5.7 maybe there is a differnt wheel houseing cuasing the bokt to hit the strut and not fully come out
Thanks once again, you video's are excellent.

What's the head size on the control arm bolt? i can't seem to find a socket to fit it. My bolt keeps spinning as I turn the nut
These v6s got more room than my v8đ€Šđœââïž
I will need this video for Saturday thank you so much, I've already subscribe to your channel đ

He took the tire off and rusted rotors and the next scene brand new rotors and pads lol .. anyone else notice that ?
Yup. Thought I was the only one
This method does not work on the chargers for the passenger side. The struts are in the way on both sides. There's a wire harness in the way on the passenger side.
1971 Cheyenne Chevrolet same with my 2005 300
1971 Cheyenne Chevrolet lose sway bar bolt n strut then u have more room
Very nice...

I didn't watch the video all the way and tightened the nuts and bolts first. Will that cause it to make a squeaking noise? Did i ruin the part? Or should I just redo it?
+Tony Dean It could make a squeaking noise. The suspension should have been loaded with the weight of the vehicle on the ground. You may want to inspect the bushings to see if they were damages, if not you may want to try loosening the control arms, putting the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, and then tightening the control arm bolts. Hope this helps you out.
1A Auto Parts Thanks I didn't drive it but point 1 mile. jacked it back up loosened the bolts and did it the correct way (This time). The noise was gone. But thanks for the reply
So only lower the car a lil to put some pressure on the tire when tighten the bolts ?? I'm getting ready to do my hole front sispention so trying to look up all the parts and how it's done
Are the parts different for a 2006 Chrysler 300C? AWD 5.7 Hemi?
+Barbara Vampola There will be a difference between AWD and RWD models but the installation process should be very similar. I have attached a link to the parts for your reference: www.1aauto.com/search?q=control+arm&year=2006&model=346
Does replacing this part require an alignment afterward?
+Tim Stolski Thanks for checking us out! It is highly recommended to get an alignment whenever you are working on suspension parts.
Wait a minute the place where people order parts from⊠ordered a part from somewhere else and doesnât have the part đ€Ł
Does you replacement assembly have a ball joint grease fitting?
+Tom Sigler Our replacement ball joints will come pre-greased and will not have a zerk fitting.
Can you add a zerk fitting to them?
Hello, is thos a similar process for 2013 era 300's?
+Shank Montgomery Thanks for checking us out! Yes, this will be similar all the way to 2017 models! 1AAuto.com
Good video as always but I call BS on how easily the bolts for the control arm are to slide through it I've been fighting 30 mins.
How do you fix rear upper control arm on 05 Pacifica
+Tyrie Hudgens We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
4:24 does this method of taking these bolts works on chargers too? I tried but springs came in the way. I did this on driver side
+Ajs1287 Thank you for checking us out. This method should help on the Charger as well. 1aauto.com
you guys rock!!
How to replace lower control arm,, Chrysler 2006 tour
Our control arm snapped, no prior warning signs or anything.
RWD only. Need to make sure people know this. This is not the same UCA for an AWD 300.
+Steve Gonzales Thanks for the feedback!
hey guys i have rather interior related question. planing on swapping 2014 complete deash to my 2005 300c it seems relativly same but do u guys thing itll fit?
Did you ever get the dash swapped out if so how it fit
I have a 06 dodge charger rt Daytona and I'm getting a lot of clunking while going over bumps potholes etc could this be the issue a tire shop told me upper ball joint and control arm....
Hello, feel free to contact us if you need any assistance searching for the parts! Thank you. +trisha valle
Too bad the passenger side control arm on 5.7 isnât the same. The bolt on the left is under the car. The plastic wheel well has to be removed to access it. Pretty lame design
Explain to me how yall just get the bolt past the strut like itâs nothing.
+Dustin Wester There are some variables with the removal of those bolts, if you are having difficulties removing these try to use some rust penetrate and loosen them moire before attempting to remove them.
I just went ahead and took the whole strut assembly out.
Thanks for nothing captain obvious
